I was just visiting nostalgic times with yo-yos and came across this. 60 years ago we were visiting family in Florida and a department store was demonstrating this device doing pretty much what you showed in this video. All the kids got one as it was Christmas time. Of course without proper training we all sucked at it LOL. Interestingly enough I do remember having to roll it on the ground first to get started. We actually got fairly good at just spinning it, but could never catch it after a throw because because of a slack line just like you showed. Now that I know what it is called I think I'll visit Amazon, get one ordered, and then actually learn how to use it. Thanks for rekindling old memories. Now you have an old man getting ready to play with kids toys again Hahahahaha

What a fun memory that is. Thanks for sharing! I sell them on my website too if you want to buy direct :) but that’s fine if you want to 3D print your own. Let me know how that turns out. Here’s the store link: jesse-joyner-juggling.square.site

Hi Jesse, I hope you're doing fine. Really nice and sweet tutorial as always. I love the way you explain things in a simple and concise manner and encourage never giving up upon failure in a pleasant way that's non-deprecating to oneself. I really admire that outlook, probably because I need it the most.
I'm really grateful for having learned juggling through your videos. If you remember, I had messaged you in February 2020 when I had just taken up juggling. I hate sounding smug but I can do a 3 ball cascade effortlessly and am just mildly comfortable with 3-4 tricks but haven't progressed much in terms of trying to learn new tricks.
Things in the world have taken such a drastic turn since I messaged you. Thank you for what you do. I hope and wish you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Take care. 🙂

Hi, thanks for watching! What you're saying is a common thing to happen when you're first learning. The best way to keep the yo yo from tipping or flipping when you throw it is to work on the spin. The faster you spin the yo yo before you do any tricks, the more control you will have on it when handling it. You can improve your spin by holding the sticks closer together when you're playing with the yo yo. I tell people to hold the sticks parallel to one another, straight in front of your body, about waist high, and VERY close to one another (like only about 2 inches apart, parallel). Once you have that position, spin the yo yo counter clockwise by drumming your right stick up and down while holding your left stick still. It takes practice, but I would say spend a lot of time working on the spin before trying anything else. Also, you can fix the tilt by drumming forward with your right hand if it tilts down towards you and drumming inward with your right hand if it tilts down away from you. I know that's a lot of info and I hope that makes sense and helps. Happy Diabolo-ing!
