Be wary of lower front ball joints. They might snap without warning, practically making a wheel fall of. Best to replace them every 60k miles (100k kms). Another thing is rusting rear wheel-arches, lower part of them in particular - there is a plug sealing plastic wheel-arch cover. It does a poor job, so the wheel splashes water with salt and dirt inside the molding. When you see zit like bubbles forming under the paint - it's too late, it has to be cut out and replaced. Stock radio is a pile of hot garbage - laser, CD changer, am/fm radio - all of those break down at random. Also front calipers are prone to piston seizing - they need to be thoroughly cleaned once a year - popular mod is to ditch them for a set of front calipers from ls/gs 430 or a Mercedes w220 (slight modification required, nothing special). If the gearbox had no oil changes or those were done once every 10 years, the auto gearbox might have trouble going into 5th gear sometimes, also going from 2nd to 3rd will be accompanied with a huge thud, like a sledgehammer hitting the gearbox. Sometimes water might get into spare wheel compartment, resulting in rusting floor, but this is not that common. More common is roof rusting next to the windshield - IS's without sunroof didn't have zinc anti corrosion protection on the roof. The final thing I can think of is the motor which adjust the ventilation - at first it starts making funny noises (like a huge hamster scratching under the dash), but after a long time it'll break and end up being stuck on windshield mode - warm air from the heater will go only there. In IS200, the 6 speed M/T is really great (6th gear could have a bit longer ratio), but the synchronizers are delicate, 2nd gear in particular, dual mass flywheel isn't that much of a trouble but ditching it for for a single mass lightened improves acceleration at least by 0,5s. Ignition coils tend to fail after almost those 20 years, the annoyance being that they tend to fail one after the other, which is costly - mostly in the 1G-FE IS200 (6 COP), the 2JZ seems to do fine (3 COP).
ive had to replace the cats, an 02 sensor, radiator, and valve cover seals and fix power steering leak over the last 4 years in my IS300 lolol --- lucky most of it is very easy work if you have some experience ... now I'm preparing to do the cam seals cuz I have the leak in the front too..... so your video seems to be pretty accurate about these problems!
the Pioneer Pioneer DMH-C2550NEX Modular 6.8'' fits nice in the stock GPS screen and lower part where the original stereo :) - the sticky dash is a PITA but bit goo gone and scrub off - if dont want to swap the dash tho
check ur power steering return line - mine was leaking and replaced the hoses - also u got 4 o2 sensors on the car 3 can see in the engine bay 4th is after the Y pipe connection beneath the car
Huh I’ve had my 01 since I got my license and I never knew the other years had a different dash material, having the dash match the exterior from factory was one of my favorite things about the car wonder why they stopped 🤔
@@drewrout I did some additional research and you are correct. 4 o2 sensors on exhaust and and the evap is a different thing. Thank you for your feedback
How is seating position like in these? I am looking for wagon that has closest possible position/sitting height to a coupe like celica, supra or sc300, but i really dont want any of the beamers.
@@jjvdz Sound great. Was it "low in the car" feeling tho? I usdd to have a 5th gen celica, but had to swtich couple hears back and i really miss that feel.(currently only things i get to drive are crossovers/suvs in the family and its pretty much anti-sporty 😅) I wonder if IS300 is close to that.
nice holland sticker :p just got myself a 2001 is300 automatic, luckily the only real isseu i have is surface-rust on different parts on the outside. oww and a not working gps, but thats not a problem nowadays
those straight 6 engines also create alot of blow by specially when you drive them hard. gotta need an oil catch tank to prevent engine sludge on the head
Never heard 2jz having that problem or never experience that problem myself. And a lot tuner I talked to or people on the forums/group all said it's not worth it until you boost it as there's not enough crank case pressure. I'm guessing if you have excess blow by your piston ring or valve stem seal is bad.
But you know that rear tailgate is made of aluminium? Second thing is about timing belt cover - there should be no oil inside if you see oil right there probably you have leaky vvt-i or some of sealing on camshafts/crankshaft
Mines leaking tranny fluid from the passenger side of the radiator idk if it’s a hose or what just replaced my harmonic balancer and it started leaking when I got it back together
Tell me you don't know anything about the is300. Besides the sticky dash if you live down south everything else is non issue unless the car wasn't taken care of. But that includes every car in existence. I have an 01 and 02 and I have none of those issues.
@@Beedji valve cover leaks happens to just about every car specially a car that that's 17-21 years old 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦 it's basically maintenance at that age🤦🤦🤦🤦

I had that problem on my Lexus with the ball joint too, but I didn’t realize that it was a common problem. Great feedback brotha

My IS200 had the sticky dash. Had the dash and centre console replaced at a Lexus dealer.

cool man thanks for your feedback and watching the video!
FYI, the is300 has 4 o2 sensors. Accurate video otherwise.
I believe your info is incorrect. There are 2 banks of sensors. 2 pre catalytic and 2 post catalytic. Not sure if that is what you ment about evap.

There great, highly adjustable and good for any type of seating position, only thing is no lumbar support

The tailgate is aluminium so it is not a rust. It is the aluminium oxidises
