My son always sing this song to me, I was this morning seating in the restaurant when this song came out, I almost broke down in tears, his death anniversary is on the 23 of this month, and every time I heard our songs means to me he around me, love you always my beloved Son 🙏🏼

This was both entirely unexpected, and the most DCFC thing of all time-- at the same time.
I agree that it was entirely unexpected, but can't say that I agree it is the "most DCFC thing of all time". The melody/overall mood doesn't feel very DCFC to me so it seems like a weird choice for a cover song by them. Just my opinion! Either way, as a 90s kid, I respect it.

@@ConsciousRobot maybe it's not the "most" death cab thing ever, but here's some ways that i'd say it is somewhat death cab:
i guess one of the biggest things would be the kind of “localist”/anti-”globalist” sentiments expressed in this song. it uses natural metaphors of rivers, lakes, and waterfalls, and these can be compared to the artificial modes of transportation like cars, trains, boats, and airplanes in “the new year”, “transatlanticism”, and “asphalt meadows”.
the lyrics about this person looking in the mirror and not recognizing themselves, and being nearer to death, are somewhat similar to those in “brothers on a hotel bed” and “monday morning”.
by singing a song that could plausibly have inspired some of his own lyrics, it fits with his post-divorce anti-fanservice of explaining away the meaning of his own songs by claiming they boil down to a single influence, and mean nothing else.
another major point being made by singing this song is the irony in context. the cover album is made to raise funds for the election of democrats [“liberals”] in that state, yet this song has this very "conservative" message. not just the localism, but also opposing sexual promiscuity by raising fears about HIV [“three letters took him to his final resting place”].
another related irony is that this song was originally made by black people. often, democrats/”liberals” consider themselves to be the supporters of racial minorities. yet often these minorities [for various reasons] are rather "conservative".
a few more small points:
it’s sung clearly so you can hear the lyrics better than usual
plenty of words with more than two syllables, such as “waterfalls”, “realize”, “obsession”, “temptation”, and “recognize”.
it is missing a gibbardian title-drop reserved for the 2nd verse, though…[and so is a lot of his own post-divorce material]
Why do I find this so beautiful? It sounds like a completely different song. I will always love the TLC version. It’s a classic. This one makes me think of summer drives late at night with my friends, bonfires on the beach...
Some covers are like walking through an area you have only driven through. I didn't expect a walk through the TLC zone, but it was pleasant.

I put on their EP today and as this song started I thought to myself "I feel like they took this melody from someone" then the chorus hit and I thought "ahhh, yes, that song I haven't heard for years". Awesome track, just took me a minute.

Today is the first time I listened to it because although i love covers and love DCFC I was nervous about tainting my image of them.
To my surprise it is perfect and is a beautiful tribute to the original. I should have known one of my favorite bands of all time wouldn't touch this unless they knew they could do it justice.

Just saw Death Cab in Vail, CO. Incredible performance by one of the most polished bands I have ever seen. They played this song during their encore and it blew everyone away...wasn't a dry eye in the house. Amazing !!!!!

When my friend sent me the link to the song, even as a huge DCFC fan, I expected to be let down because I could only picture TLC singing this. Yes it's different, but it's really good in it's own way.

I heard original and when I heard this one I like it more .. this song is done in layers .. love how it unfolds very different from current song hits ..guitar touch is cool ..reminds me of 90s when we were crazy about guitars.

It was mid set and thus no introduction and it took me entirely too long to recognize it. Probably because I had never bothered to listen to the lyrics of the verses.
