    Very helpful. Thank you for pointing out that GAC 100 can double as primer and sealant if you’d like to keep the original color of the wood. I am a calligraphy artist and I write/paint mostly on birch plywood. Therefore, GAC 100 allows me to use acrylic paint pens (Montana, POSCA etc.) and Indian ink directly on my sealant layers without having to also buy and use another primer. I like the surface to be transparent so that you can see the wood (to give it a historic feel) so the fact that I can use GAC 100 for that effect is wonderful! Thank you.

      I am glad that you found it helpful! They do make clear gesso and watercolor color ground if you need something with a bit more tooth. Thank you for watching!

    This was helpful. A lot of the pre primed surfaces i see at the store appear to be sprayed on and have a texture i dont care for, i think this will help

    How do you clean the GAC 100 after it has dried on your paintbrush 😮

    Hello. I got GAC 200 for sealing. Can I use that insted of GAC 100? Or they are very different. Thank you

      GAC 200 is meant for non porous surfaces such as a metal or plastic. I wouldn't recommend it for wood.

    I applied black gesso to my raw panel before learning that it should be sealed with GAC or similar first. I only have one coat on so far, could I apply the GAC over the gesso and then another gesso coat? It’s a huge panel I don’t want to waste it. Or since my gesso is black, should I not be concerned about any discoloration issues happening from not sealing it first? Would there be any other issue to be concerned about?

    Can I use GAC 100 and then a clear gesso? If I want to transfer a drawing with charcoal, can I transfer onto the GAC 100 layer, ink with india ink, then go over with clear gesso before starting to paint?

    How long do you wait for the Gac 100 to dry before applying the second coat of Gac 100? Thanks! This video is very helpful!

    • @SaenaFineArt
      @SaenaFineArt  4 роки тому +4

      Anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. It gets pretty humid where I live so sometimes longer. When you touch it and it's not tacky then you are ready for a second coat. Thank you so much for watching and I am glad you found it helpful!

    Is there any problems or desadvantages in painting acrylics straight over GAC 100? I'm painting over gesso and I would like to get more flow and mixing from my paintings, and a glossy surface like gac 100 sounds like a good idea. Thank you

      I have painted directly on GAC 100 without Gesso before and I haven't had any issues. However it was just flat color on the sides of a cradled panel and not an actual piece. So I would do a bit of experimenting just to make sure it can handle what you want to do!

    Thank you for sharing! I havent purchased GAC 100 yet. I just primed a few wood boards (hardwood) with Gesso. Do you think not having the sealent can be a problem?

    • @SaenaFineArt
      @SaenaFineArt  3 роки тому +2

      Many people don't use a sealant so you should be fine! I tend to seal my panels because I live in a very humid area, so I need that extra protection. But if your panels are fairly thick or cradled then you should ok. Thank you for watching!

      @@SaenaFineArt Thank you so much. I am currently painting on a hardwood panel (70cm by 55cm / 9mm thick). Do you know if there is a rule of thumb, in terms of size vs thickness ratio to observe? Even though it's not that large, It just seems so because it's wood and not stretched canvas (I suppose maybe going a little thicker after a certain size can help with potential warping problems). I heard ABS plastic sheets are a good alternative as well. Thank you very much

    What type and grit of sandpaper should be used for sanding?

    • @SaenaFineArt
      @SaenaFineArt  3 роки тому

      I would recommend a Fine Grit sand paper. You can also use a sanding block, just make sure it is a fine grit.

    Outstanding - haven't heard of GAC, but trust you. Would you also use this for masonite? I've always just used gesso. Help/advice?

    • @SaenaFineArt
      @SaenaFineArt  3 роки тому +2

      I found out about GAC 100 from one of my favorite art companies! As for masonite, I am not sure. I have mainly seen GAC 100 used on wood. You could do a test with it though. You can also checkout Golden's website and UA-cam channel, they have great content explaining about their different products and what they can be used with.

    Learned the hard way and just started applying paint to a 30X30 wood board, the paint absorbs before I am even able to spread it, leaving awful streaks and marks everywhere

      Oh those learning the hard way moments, I had one with masking fluid and water color paper recently.
