Wow, what a gem this clip is! I was a big fan of the Uecker-Harmon broadcast team back in the 70s. Actually met Merle in 1993 in Madison and he was such a nice, down to earth guy. I told him, “it’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr Harmon” as I shook his hand. He replied with a big smile, “What’s this Mr Harmon stuff? Call me Merle.” Asked him how it was working with Ueck in the 70s and he told me that it was a blast.

This recording is an embarrassment of baseball riches. So much to love here. Hank Aaron walk off stroke called by the great Bob Uecker. Can’t help but grin listening to this.
Just a couple weeks earlier Ueck was seen interviewing a stocking-footed Mark “The Bird” Fidrych on Monday Night Baseball after Fidrych beat the Yanks and burst onto the baseball scene.
    Spirit of ‘76 indeed.
RIP Bob and Hank… and Mark.
    ❤ ⚾️

My dad took my brother and me to this double header, 1st ever Brewer game. He wanted us to see one of Hank's last homers. We got that and a lot more! The crowd chanting Hank Hank Hank, we want Henry. It was electric! Been to lots of games since and the only one that comes close with the curtain calls and MVP chant is 2018 Yelich with 2 homers in game 161. Felt the same electricity with the curtain calls and MVP chant. Thanks so much for posting this, gonna share it with my dad!

Wow! My favorite athlete/sports hero of all-time, Henry Aaron, and the great (now late) Bob Uecker with an iconic call. This is great. RIP to both of these icons!

This is so great. And thanks to Artie Lange and Norm MacDonald, I am now imagining that during every pause between pitches, Uecker hits the cough button and says something like “Hey, check the (blank) (blank) on that (blank) (blank)(blank)(blank).”

Great to hear Merle Harmon again. The amazing thing is that Uecker sounds exactly the same today as almost 50 years ago. The man is still sharp as a tack. We are lucky to have had Bob Uecker for so long. That was also the next to last career HR for Hank Aaron. Thanks for posting!

Thanks so much for sharing this! I'm old enough to remember when Merle Harmon was the PBP guy and Ueck was the color guy. This is one of the few, maybe only, recordings of Merle doing a Brewers game that I've come across; to have it include The Hammer's next-to-last homer, and a game-winner at that, is really nice.

Wow what a treasure I never heard Bob Uecker calling Henry Aaron’s second to last homer 754 in July 1976 755 would come about a week or so later also at County Stadium Bob Uecker Merle Harmon and Hank Aaron May they all rest in peace and the only thing better would be video of the moment a walkoff in the tenth inning against the Rangers Brewers we’re playing well won 5 in a row going into the All Star Break 1976 but still a few years later from being a great team but what a treasure and moment for Bob Uecker and Hank Aaron Will sure miss his calls of home runs Rip Bob Uecker Brewer broadcasts will never be the same again without Bob ⚾️⚾️⚾️

So from July 11th to the end of the season, Hank hit only ONE MORE home run on July 20th?… So he needed money that bad, he milked the Brewers (not a rich ball club, but Selg’s a weenie, so…good for Hank) for 10 days in July, all of August and September…drawing his full salary, not even suiting up to play??Jeez, what a man! I had no idea Hank was so much pain, & hobbled in his last year!
Meanwhile, think of Mickey Mantle, who quit after the ‘68 season. He could’ve still given the Yanks 15-25 HR’s a year, if only his knees held up. Had Kuhn not waited 5 years before adopting the DH, Mantle would’ve thrived in the role! Seems like MacPhail & Kuhn always ruled against the Yankees, and when possible, screwed them. (Pine tar game? That was MacPhail). In 1974, Mantle was being Inducted into the Hall of Fame, instead of leading the Yanks to the divisional title. The Yanks only finished 2 games behind Baltimore. Even ravaged by injuries, Mantle’s WAR in ‘68 was 3.8, and even At 43, with no more daily abuse on his knees, he probably would’ve gotten the Yanks, 2 back of Baltimore, into the playoffs. But in addition to his knees, some internal organs might’ve sidelined him. Pure speculation, but fun to think: “What if?”

If the DH was in, The Mick could've hung on. Maybe.

Hank and Ueck had great mutual respect and a 50 years friendship, even when Aaron accused Bob of having a HR dismissed because Henry had a foot out of the batter's box at the moment of the swing (it was another's catcher who appealed 😂) Hank said at the time that if he fell short of breaking Ruth's record by one homer he would never let Uecker forget !!! 🤣😂😄😅😆😃⚾

You have the wrong date in your headline - this happened in the 50s.

No, the 1976 date is correct.

@@kurdtsea You are correct, I forgot Aaron played for the Brewers at the end of his career. I got the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers confused.
