Alex Redden I agree with you. The Mad Cat(or Timberwolf, as Mechwarrior Online calls it) is one of the most iconic mechs with another iconic mech being the Atlas. Besides my gripe about the lack of Mechwarrior mechs on this list, I think that it was actually inflated with a few mislabeled entries. The "Mech" from Section 8 is actually more of a power armor than a true mech. A mech is a walking tank. The Silverback Power Armor is just that: power armor. It's a suit of armor that gives increased combat capability and survivability, not a towering robot piloted by the player like say the Titans or that mech from the Insect game.
The TimberWolf is the CLAN name for the MadCat. The MadCat being the InnerSphere version. Timberwolfs were generally made to be brawlers and more mobile. MadCats were almost always laser 2nd line mechs with 2LRM setups
Actually, both names refer to the same desing, Timberwolf is the Clan name, being a Clan Wolf desing, of course sports a wolf-themed name. Mad Cat is the Inner Sphere name, it is called this way because in it's first encounter with the IS, being an unknown mech then, the computer of IS mechs could not identify it, so it switched from MAD (Marauder) to CAT (Catapult) back and forth.
There's no mech game that beats Mechwarrior. Walking around in an Atlas or Jagermech towering over buildings, killing your enemies from afar with missile barrages, or blasting the enemy with bolts of supercharged particles. Fuck that Gundam shit.

Not a single Armored Core mention... the master of mechs... And I also agree that Front Mission Evolved is great but it really just feels like Armored Core with a few tweaks here and there to the boosters. If you want a more realistic Armored Core without the colossal FLYING robots, check out Armored Core V or even Verdict day; the mechs were different and heavier but ultimately still awesome and super fun once you get into it

MechWarrior is prolly one of the move Customizable mech games, not only in your armaments but looks, has HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS of models that and it can go from that slow pace Oh I got weight since the heaviest thing is a 100 tonnes and moving from 40kph to 60 maybe 80(Depends on the model) when we have a Light 20 ton mech Flea or locust that can go over 150kph EASILY. Gamertron I just suggest it for you. Latest iteration of the game is F2P so I don't wanna hear you can't play it.

Mechwarrior online is in my opinion the most believable product.It just feels kinda unrealistic that 100+ ton machines moving like ninjas (even the light mechs in MWO deliver a feeling of controlling a gigantic machine (sound of torso rotation, awesome stomping sound, stunning impact of enemy fire)).And from the standpoint of a guy who prefer awesome, kinda asthetic mechs its just unchallanged these days. I can only give you the tip to check it out at MWO.com
SHR SHRED The mechwarrior series has always had mechs like that. MWO is just more HD than the 10 year old ones :P. Its a shame it doesn't take after its predecessors. If you could customise your mech like you used to be able to it would be quite literally the best Mech game ever. Then we were told it was going to be FTP and now you can say its not P2W, but unless you pay you need at least 10 hours of gameplay to be able to even build a mech with full equipment from scratch.
i think grind is the way to keep no-payers playing the game i while longer then they woud if everything was unlockable on the fly.I mean, who pays money if there aint no enemys to fight against (or 5-10 min till enough are together for a match to kick off > CW > empty servers).
SHR SHRED You say that, yet MW4 still has people playing it. I do get what you mean though, they don't need to give you everything or make it super easy, however it DOES take way too long in MWO. When someone can pay something like £5 and just unlock a new mech or weapon which you might have taken hours to unlock it feels a bit unfair and cheap.

I really loved this video. I do wish though, that you had the chance to play the various Armored Core games, Chromehounds, the Mechwarrior games including Mechwarrior Online. All these are alone better than Front Mission Evolved, which I think is still a very okay game but feels pale compared to Armored Core. Tired of just rockets and machine guns? No problems, the mechs got cannons, big ones, shotguns, assault rifles, autocannons, missiles, guided ones, not to mention lasers, beam weapons. Oh and blades. In Chromehounds, mechs even carry artillery. And all these games are about mechs versus mechs, all highly customizable. For video games that are not about mechs, surprised not to have mentioned the Metal Gear Ray and Rex, and the mech in Battlefield 2142. And if you want mech combat in a massive scale, there is no other than Mechwarrior Online.
On No. 5, I refuse to call anything a 'spider' if it has SIX LEGS!!! Other than that, I'm putting No. 1 on my wish list because you said the magic word: CUSTOMIZABLE
love this list, also if you LOVE mechs watch the gundam series its been around for ages and ALL of its mechs, mobile suits/dolls and gundams (yes there is a difference) is F*ing badass in functionality and design X3 btw very nice touch with the pr lightspeed rescue theme so much nostolgia X3

Armor Core is good and all and has a lot of customization but I want to say Mechwarrior has more because MWO has 321 currently playable mechs with shit tons more to add, and many weapons with more to add. Danny Hampton I JENNERally despise lights. Especially Arctic Cheetahs. I hate those little assholes. Dires aren't really a problem as most people overestimate DWFs when they are piloting one, and often go out into the open before being destroyed.
You have clearly never seen the amount of customization possible in Mechwarrior series - in Mechwarrior 2 and 3 you could basically strip down a mech and redesign it's entire loadout from the ground up. Mechwarrior Online restricts it with a hardpoint system based on weapon type, but also introduces a huge amount of visual customization. Titan shields in Titanfall? Take a decal system: you can pick up to six decals, choose their colors, place them however you like (both placement and orientation are freeform) and even overlay them on each other to create more complex logos. Not only that, but you can apply your choice of colors to any one from a pretty huge list of application patterns.
30 kph is considered borderline slow in Battletech / Mechwarrior. Typical medium and heavy mechs move at roughly 60-80 kph, light mechs 90-120 kph and above with speeds of 200+ kph being possible and one particular mech in the source material being capable of a 432 kph top speed.
+drmayeda1 There are plenty of Gundam games out there, with the Gundam Breaker series, the SD G Generation series, SD Gundam Next Evolution, the Gundam Dynasty Warriors series, and many more that aren't part of a series. If you search for Gundam games online, you'll find tons.

I fucking love LP, and I'm glad you included it on this list. My only thing with you picking the GAN-3AM is that, while it is most definitely the most fun, the VS that's by far the coolest looking, the fastest, the most iconic, and arguably the most deadly, is the Hardballer. There are a few different models but when someone whose played LP sees that outline coming we all instinctively shit our pants.

+Captain Draco Yep. Most Battlemechs are only about 30 to maybe 40 feet tall. But when you compare weight the Battlemechs, such as the Timberwolf, aka Madcat, outweigh a Gundam by a Ton.
God Smack Battletech and Mechwarrior or Mech Assault are all the same, its just different names because its franchised. But I didn't enjoy Mech Assault either way.
if you take supreme commander one or two into consideration, the raw power, size, and usefulness from any of the ACUs, they will be considerably better than any of the other mechs since they can construct a base in a matter of minutes. Also they can produce giant death machines, smaller mechs, tanks, air units, and sea craft. They are my favorite mechs.
TheGamerTronShow H-how'd you make a list of top mechs in video games but seem to avoid one of the most central mech gaming franchises out there? ): If you liked Front Mission Evolved, you would probably like Armored Core and its kinda-spinoff Chromehounds. Both are focused heavily on making your own mech machines, and have a hell of lot more customization and depth than FME did. I don't say that as a put down to FME, either, as it's a spin-off to a tactical RPG series, so it's not going to hold up to a franchise where its bread and butter is in the same type of gameplay.
+Rafif The Second As far as i remember, the only Metal Gears that you can actually ride on are Rex from MGS 4 and the walker gears in MGS 5. All you do as Rex in MGS 4 is just walk and walk until you reach the end to fight a boring boss (in terms of gameplay), and even if you consider the walker gears as Metal gear, they arn't that fun or effective to play with. If we just talk about mechs that you can ride on, I can see why Metal Gear Series don't make it to some people's top 10. PS: You should check out Hawken for mech game :D.

Front mission evolved I had a lot of fun with that game always used a machine gun shotgun and always had homing missiles on the shoulders we need another game
If you like mechs I reccomend a game on steam. The game is Hawken. 100% of your time is spent in mechs. Wether you like pve or pvp Hawken can cater to your preferences too with over 30 mech types almost all with different weapons and appearances, and classes, light medium and heavy.
Yo! Ever heard of Zone of the Enders? I missed it in this list, but then again that's just my opinion, and you might have not played it as well... (If that's the case I REALLY recommend that you try it out, at least the 2nd game which the best for me)
Your number one choice makes me highly, HIGHLY recommend checking out the Armored Core series. They have the most mobile, destructive and customizable 'mechs you can find. Some might argue that the MechWarrior series is more customizable, and they would have valid points. But Armored Core lines up perfectly with your number one choice.
I have played quite a few mech games but still my top choice is Jehuty from Zone of the Enders 2. It literally could destroy every mech on this list ten time before it broke out any of it special weapons. I haven't played Armored Core since part 3 but number one looks like an updated version of that.

Neither MechWarrior nor Armored Core were mentioned. If you have never played either (Which you should if you've some of these games) I am fairly confident that something from both would be on the list. The Timberwolf, Atlas, literally any Next from Armored Core, they would all fit well.

My favorite, that's hard to say I like to have a good mix of armor, and firepower plus speed so I would go with a Wolverine 55 ton mech.

+DarkBazerker Others are crying that Armored Core didn't make the cut and calling it "the master of mechs". Battletech/Mechwarrior is older and in my eyes far better than Armored Core. Armor Core is good and all and has a lot of customization but I want to say Mechwarrior has more because MWO has 321 currently playable mechs with shit tons more to add, and many weapons with more to add. MechWarrior to me at least is the most iconic mech game franchise. When someone says mech the image of a Timber Wolf/Mad Cat pops in my head. Hell its partially why I click on the thumb nail, there was a pic of a Timber Wolf.

You have clearly never seen the amount of customization possible in Mechwarrior series - in Mechwarrior 2 and 3 you could basically strip down a mech and redesign it's entire loadout from the ground up. Mechwarrior Online restricts it with a hardpoint system based on weapon type, but also introduces a huge amount of visual customization. Titan shields in Titanfall? Take a decal system: you can pick up to six decals, choose their colors, place them however you like (both placement and orientation are freeform) and even overlay them on each other to create more complex logos. Not only that, but you can apply your choice of colors to any one from a pretty huge list of application patterns.
Amored Core is way better in the costumization category also whos scared of a Mech tha can walk 1km/h lol Anubis would fry all in under a min^^
30 kph is considered borderline slow in Battletech / Mechwarrior. Typical medium and heavy mechs move at roughly 60-80 kph, light mechs 90-120 kph and above with speeds of 200+ kph being possible and one particular mech in the source material being capable of a 432 kph top speed.
Sounds like you would have loved Chrome Hounds. Which wasn't on this list at all.
The last mech game I played was Starsiege. Apparently I've missed a lot.

I fucking love LP, and I'm glad you included it on this list. My only thing with you picking the GAN-3AM is that, while it is most definitely the most fun, the VS that's by far the coolest looking, the fastest, the most iconic, and arguably the most deadly, is the Hardballer. There are a few different models but when someone whose played LP sees that outline coming we all instinctively shit our pants.

God Smack Battletech and Mechwarrior or Mech Assault are all the same, its just different names because its franchised. But I didn't enjoy Mech Assault either way.
mech assault is nothing to mech warrior.
if you take supreme commander one or two into consideration, the raw power, size, and usefulness from any of the ACUs, they will be considerably better than any of the other mechs since they can construct a base in a matter of minutes. Also they can produce giant death machines, smaller mechs, tanks, air units, and sea craft.
They are my favorite mechs.
You probably haven't played MGS4 yet, but if you did, I'm willing to bet you'd love Metal Gear REX :D

If you liked Front Mission Evolved, you would probably like Armored Core and its kinda-spinoff Chromehounds. Both are focused heavily on making your own mech machines, and have a hell of lot more customization and depth than FME did. I don't say that as a put down to FME, either, as it's a spin-off to a tactical RPG series, so it's not going to hold up to a franchise where its bread and butter is in the same type of gameplay.

+Rafif The Second As far as i remember, the only Metal Gears that you can actually ride on are Rex from MGS 4 and the walker gears in MGS 5. All you do as Rex in MGS 4 is just walk and walk until you reach the end to fight a boring boss (in terms of gameplay), and even if you consider the walker gears as Metal gear, they arn't that fun or effective to play with.
If we just talk about mechs that you can ride on, I can see why Metal Gear Series don't make it to some people's top 10.

the other two being the front mission and armored core games. and while i agree its wrong of me to condone you for not playing every mech game ever. i would expect anyone making a top rated list about super cool robots to at least see what other important mech games are out there and give them a go, and then not defer me to a comment that you cant be bothered to try important games in a area you are criticizing.
lastly i don't want to tarnish your opinion of huge amazing mech, its just by what your saying in your video you would love armored core, my fave is armored core 4 answer and my mech of choice the Rayleonard 04 Alicia.

Front mission evolved I had a lot of fun with that game always used a machine gun shotgun and always had homing missiles on the shoulders we need another game

The Mechs from F.E.A.R are awesome too they have the standed weapons but they also have a laser and a Shield and a stomp attack.
If you like mechs I reccomend a game on steam. The game is Hawken. 100% of your time is spent in mechs. Wether you like pve or pvp Hawken can cater to your preferences too with over 30 mech types almost all with different weapons and appearances, and classes, light medium and heavy.

Yo! Ever heard of Zone of the Enders? I missed it in this list, but then again that's just my opinion, and you might have not played it as well... (If that's the case I REALLY recommend that you try it out, at least the 2nd game which the best for me)

My favorite mech is the ptx-40a from lost planet ec its fast it hovers it has a saw and if you have an em laser and a minigun there's no stopping you.
I have played quite a few mech games but still my top choice is Jehuty from Zone of the Enders 2. It literally could destroy every mech on this list ten time before it broke out any of it special weapons. I haven't played Armored Core since part 3 but number one looks like an updated version of that.

Neither MechWarrior nor Armored Core were mentioned. If you have never played either (Which you should if you've some of these games) I am fairly confident that something from both would be on the list. The Timberwolf, Atlas, literally any Next from Armored Core, they would all fit well.
