- A former Israeli prime minister believes that Iran has formally declared war on Israel, after a massive drone and missile attack at the weekend.
Ehud Olmert told Sky's lead world news presenter Yalda Hakim he thought that "strangely or fortunately enough, the event on Saturday night turned out to be a total failure for Iran and a great success for Israel and allies".

Iran has been attacking US embassies many times in many other countries including Iran itself. The response was definitely not proportionate - they know this that is why they informed others first

He does speak quite a bit of sense. I never expected an Israeli to recognize that Iran has shown considerable restraint so far, in the face of many blatant attacks not just by Israel, but also by the USA, against its forces and leadership. I suppose the attack against Israel was finally meant to show that 'enough is enough'. Secondly, his assessment of the current Israeli leadership is correct. Spending billions of money for your military, while arrogantly resting on your past victories, and getting humbled by a few hundred Palestinians with small arms, being totally unable to protect your own citizens from a massacre, is the ultimate failure for any government, especially one thought as well-prepared as the Israeli one. They should have stepped down on the spot.

I wish someone like Ehud Olmert was in charge of Israel. I am an Indian born Muslim, live in UK. Over years I had made many Israeli/Jewish friends and for some reason I naturally get along with them, as I felt their humour and family values is quite similar to mine. I absolutely enjoy their company, but for some reason the political leaders of so depressingly right wing, which breaks my heart. I hope some common sense prevail, someone like Olmert man up to lead Israel in the right direction.
