Whenever ironing silk, my granmothers, always put a slightly damp pure cotton sheet on top of the silk item, and then ironed the cotton sheet with the silk below it. The heat and humidity from the cotton sheet that was being ironed, straighten the creases of the silk item 🎉
Dolly didi, I am from Bangladesh. My mom gets 100 of Rajshahi silk and mysore silks. She gave me those sarees. And I cherish those like a wealth. Never iron, only sunbath them twice a year. And keep those in cotton bags.
Hello mam, Yesterday only i bought 4 silk saree for my wedding, thank you for this video. I have a simple request to you that pls try to mention the fabric of every saree you drape, it will be more helpful in my new journey of this life. I want to wear saree daily after my wedding which is in February 2024. Need your blessings.
Dolly I wanted to know your opinion on dry cleaning silk sarees. My mother NEVER gave them to the laundry. Ive seen expensive sarees ruined by dry cleaning. But some of my sarees are stained because of this. What does one do???
I never give silk sarees for washing. I have my wedding sarees 37 yrs old looking brand new . Once in a while, I give for pressing, but I refold it so that it will no tare in folds. Even for work, I used to wear silk. Only blouses are washed and get spoiled
Beautifully explained . You are so right . My grandmother never gave her saris for washing or ironing . A broad based tumbler was the way to go ! The quality of silk and pure silver saris were normal . Now neither is generally authentic. I love your wardrobes and the gesture to give away . I however am a bit sad that there is so much plastic in the wrapping. Mulmul cloth was used to keep the saris protected from dust and moisture . I would be shocked if the gen z appreciates the saris of old . Now it’s all super bling and worn just once . 🤷🏼♀️
I remember my grandma and mother used to fold the Saree keep it under their pillow to remove wrinkles. I too have tried off late and believe me it really works
Highly appreciated... Thank you for this very informative video. My observation for such videos where they teach to iron "silk saree" is that they never use pure silk saree, we can easily make out that that is an art silk saree. But those with pure silk saree do jot understand this and end up running a precious pure silk saree.
The other male saree draping expert from Tamil Nadu.....uses extreme heat for the saree pleats. I always used to wonder how his sarees survived. What she says is 100% true.
Please suggest about dry cleaning of Silk Saree. I observed every time my new saree goes for dryclean it looses it original feel. But if I ask the dry cleaner i do not get satisfactory answer. How frequently dry cleaning is needed, is there an alternative. Request your guidance. Its been 20 years i am facing this.
First of all do not wash or dry clean silk or zari saree after you wear it once just sun dry them inside out and all the sweat smell will go. Secondly, if in case there is some stain on the saree don’t wash the whole saree just remove the stain with shampoo with water but mind you just on stain. Frequently washing or dry cleaning sarees will ruin the texture as well as the lustre of the saree
We south Indians never iron a saree while draping .Take an iron pattu saree drape using ur hands if not possible or new to saree draping take help of others for pleating fir such ironed pallu and fromt pleates without using iron box n ready to go 😅 for this no need of such pressure for draping .Draping saree is an art can be learned easily on little bit practice ❤
Mam thank you for the tip. I request you to kindly make a detailed video on how to preserve these delicate sarees. I only dryclean my silk sarees. Still recently my few beautiful Kanjeevaram sarees n also a Paithany saree torn while wearing. I saw the pain in your eyes while making this video. The same pain I'd been while loosing my beautiful old sarees. So please please make a detailed video on this topic which will help many women like me.😢😢😢
Thank you dolly ji for all the tips that you give ...l am a sari lover too and care for them like you do... please advise if modern drycleaning is ok for silk saree since they are using chemicals for cleaning
much needed video actually, i agree with you 1000% bcoz i am a crazy collector of the silk sarees and i care a lot , i have legacy collections passed on from my great grand mother to my mom and then me, i was feeling very bad when i saw these saree pre-pleating videos and practices, but nobody agrees with me, now as its coming from a drape expert i hope it reaches lot many people and ladies will take care of their silk sarees.
Namaskar Ma'am, thank you so much for making such an informative video. Please share information also about how to store silk sarees so as to maintain its life for a longer period and also, after how many uses should we give a silk saree for drycleaning.
I think I already had this kind of feeling for my saree that it should not be ironed on pleats. Thank God for that feeling. And thanks to you for this video. ❤ I totally love my sarees so much... They are more like emotion and not just an attire to me.
Thank you so much for creating awareness. I'm a collector of silk sarees. I never do this type of ironing ever and mine have lasted for years together 😊
Your are fav. I have recently started watching your videos . I am a hard core saree fan and I just love wearing pure. Your videos are really very informative. Thank you for the guidance.
Thank you so much for this lesson...its this moment only I realised that when we give saree for ironing in laundry, the use maximum temp to do the job fast.
Really very useful video Dolly ji....Now a days I saw in many saree draping videos they're using straighteners for pleats...actually it's not looking good... It's gives flat look... The way you're draping the saree is very very beautiful❤❤❤❤
Can you please show how to store different types of saris. My mother passed away and left me beautiful saris that I want to pass down to my daughter but don’t know how to store silk saris and the thin ones with embroidery.
Thank you for your advice.. because my boyfriend family gave me a silk Saree .. and to be honest I don't know how to wear it and take care of it.. I'm not Indian but i really like to wear saree and trying to know how to wear like a professional Indian.. thanks a lot again.❤
Dolly dear ,the pain of ironing silk saree is visible in your eyes.My friends keep on using saree to make the dresses but I cannot do this.I feel it is the murder of saree. I feel proud of wearing my mother's saree ,66 years old. Love you dear
I hand wash my silks (when theymust be washed) in my washing machine using an organic gentle shampoo with a rinse where I add 1/4 cup of white vinegar. They come out beautifully. And undamaged. Like another poster, I would love to learn more about proper storage. Most I hang in the closet, but one I roll because I fear hanging will destroy its unusual woven texture. Thank you!
Can you do a video for us new to saris describing the difference between silk , georgette , siffon etc. Handed down saris from women in family and don’t understand how to identify and care for the different ones. Please
From childhood, l learnt from my mother , that we must always put a white cotton dupatta on top of a silk saree or silk dress, and then iron on the dupatta, on low heat . Till this day , l follow this , and all my own sarees and even my mothers sarees, are as good as new.
Thank you mam for this video. There are saree drapers who take online classes at minimal fees to teach this method for the new or fresher makeupartist for quick bridal makeover during her big day. Especially for maharastrian brides where the wedding muhurat is in the morning and there is no time for smooth drapes. I request you to please make a video on how to keep these preparation ready before draping in your way. Also how to store sarees after wear. How to fold them and do we need to change the fold and precautions to take while storing. Bcz some keep napthalin balls in the storage but the saree carries it smell every where. Thank you.. Await you reply 🙏
Sooo rightly said mam..this was much needed.. whenever i saw videos where silk sarees were ironed to drape it would hurt to c ...i have been commenting not to do so coz the saree starts tearing.. thnks for voicing this out🙏
Hello mam...first of all thanks to you for little tips but most important to us....I have a request for you to start a series for how to take care of sarees like how to wash , iron or how to take care of it for a long period....I hope you understand my querie
Thanks for sharing this info. Seeing draping videos on UA-cam i do kadak ironing on my saree and set it, because i feel if i will not iron it will not settle on my body
Yes true. People are using hair straightener to iron pallu part of sarees. They put so many safety pins also. I have seen in many videos. But true those might get cut as the thread is so delicate. And more of those way wearing doesn't look any flowy at all, moreover they look like some uniform of a airhostess. Because I have only seen them or ladies in hotel management wearing such neatly pleated sarees.
Madam. Meri sari pure siffon h. Or mene usko hand wash kr diya. Eazy se wash kiya. Sari to tik h. But bahut shrik ho gya h. Or us pr havy jari mirror work v h Smjh nhi aa rha usko fir se pahnne laayak kese karu. Press kese hoga ? Ap agr mera comment pde to please reply jarur kriyega. Dhanyawad. Ap ka din shubh ho.,🙏
Hi I follow you and like all your information passed on. It's very helpful. I want to know how to store silk sarees... should we hang it, keep it folded or should we wrap it up in a green colour cloth ect. Pls guide
Thanks Dolly ji , wonderful information. One of my most used silk saree got torn after 23 years, happened while wearing. Never ironed , only drycleaning when utmost necessary. What can be done of it ?
I never really understood the ironing pleats trend. Part of the beauty of a saree is that it looks flowy, feminine, and effortless. Ironing everything from A to Z does not achieve this look.
Hello Please Advise on how to pack Saree properly when traveling is involved to attend the function. So I don't have to find steamer or iron to take out winkles before wearing Thank You
Please make a video on taking care and cleaning blouse.material like silk shiffon jorjet crape heavy work like jari gotta khari(pure) bulin tari work blouses

Hi mam... Can u plz tell me how do we get the silk saree cleaned.. Bcz they say dry cleaning is recommended but it also make the saree look dull and old... Can u plz make a video for this...

Yes I do this
Yes, direct heat is not allowed b’z Zari will turn black , I mean discolour
My mom does the same.Put a cotton dupatta and then iron it above.
But doesn't the steam damage the silk? I had heard it does
That's why I think one is not suppose to wash silk saree
"Meri ek saree damage karne se agar baaki saariyan bach jaati hain, to bhi it's okay!"
Full bollywood! ❤

Highly useful....we shall save our silk sarees n suits... Big thank you, Dolly Ji !
Please explain about silk blouse maintainance also.. Particularly those sweat marks n odour
What about the saris that we give to laundry for ironing we should not do it? Just fold and keep after use without ironing?

It's is usually done in South it is called box pleats. It is done for time saving. But i never liked it doing like this. I agree with you mam 💯
Thanks for this informative video. Can we use garment steamers on kanjivaram and banaras silks. Please clarify
Thank you dolly ji for all the tips that you give ...l am a sari lover too and care for them like you do... please advise if modern drycleaning is ok for silk saree since they are using chemicals for cleaning

I have the same question
I also want to know the same.
Thank you Dolly ji, for this wonderful advice to preserve the purity of silk sarees. Even I don’t agree harshly ironing the sarees while draping.
Can we use steam iron at home as it doesn't touch the material.
U are amazing ma'am it's like treating a small kid as same to treat a saree very softly and with love 😊
Does the same logic applies to hair straightener..used for front pleats
Yeah, because it's also application of heat :)
I think I already had this kind of feeling for my saree that it should not be ironed on pleats. Thank God for that feeling.

Oh I have been seeing influencers ironing the Sharee. Every time I see that, I cringe. Thank you for addressing the problem
Same here. I do not watch those videos since clearly they do not care for the saree or their audience.
I never really understood the ironing pleats trend. Part of the beauty of a saree is that it looks flowy, feminine, and effortless. Ironing everything from A to Z does not achieve this look.
I completely agree with you! The beauty of a saree lies in its flowy and effortless look. Ironing every pleat can take away from that charm.
Hello

Hi mam... Can u plz tell me how do we get the silk saree cleaned..
Bcz they say dry cleaning is recommended but it also make the saree look dull and old...
Can u plz make a video for this...
Seriously we didn't know about this thanks a lot mam
I dont understand the language. But I understood what you are saying. How do you sugfest storing your sari.
But what should be the method to keep in wardrobe?
Yet when you make reels you preprep and even prepleat too, to make the saree look so easy peasy to wear
