My husband just loved this band. He passed away 4 years ago on March 17th, 2006. Today, 3-17-10 is the anniversary, and I'm playing the Afraid of Sunlight album right this very minute. I hope you can hear it, Gary, I have it nice and loud for you! I miss you so very much. Love, Jane
Several albums ago, yes, but who can blame us for loving such a great song. Phish has his own particular style but Hogart is just great and this song suits his melancholic emo way perfectly. One of the most powerful lyrics I've ever heard and one of the best songs in music history. Thank you for posting.
So many of their lyrics speak to me. I've lost count of the number of times when I was listening to them and thought....man, they nailed some aspect of my life again. And if the lyrics weren't enough......the delivery is stunning! Seem to be good folks too. I met H, Rothery, and Trewavas on a cruise in 2014 and was delighted to see how down to earth and personable they were. Definitely my favorite group out there.
Still gives me shivers down ma spine from the very first note to the last.......excellent!! still one of ma favs and am off to see ex lead vocal Fish at Crathes Castle 14th of this month!
These guys are just stunning. Their use of dynamics, phrasing, chord changes, is just mind blowing. I'm honestly glad they are not a household name and overexposed. This afternoon I listened to Afraid of Sunlight, Brave, and Seasons End in their entirety (using my Bose ear buds) Talk about spending some quality time :) They just take you on a mini vacation.
For me, the Greatest Band I've heard or seen live, and as a fitting tribute, this is for me their finest piece of work. The lyric, "I'm Already dead, it's a matter of time" utter genius. If you could pick a studio to be present in while a song was recorded that was just utterly perfect it would be this, with the Verve's Bittersweet a close 2nd. Fabulous
Marillion created the soundtrack of my life, each song reminds me of something. This album is one of the Top 100 in rock history together with Brave and Season's End. Hogarth is by far better than Fish even though less popular.
My favourite Marillion song - ever. Pity it was part of my life's soundtrack when I was splitting up with the Love of My Life. Never did get over losing her - which is why I only leave the house these days to buy groceries. I, too, am afraid of sunlight now - all I'm doing is waiting for the Reaper to show up - and the sooner he gets here, the better. I was not made for this world......
Actually, Fish left the band before 1989. Steve Hogarth has been with the band since then. A very different sound, takes some getting used to if you liked Fish. The band has put out a tremendous amount of work since Fish left, more than when he was in the band. They are still an incredible band.
Great song I really like them but have just discovered them I assume Fish used to be the singer? does he sound like this guy? I love this song Thanx for posting
Without FISH Marillion losted the old touch of magic....the brighty shine, the fantasy dreams, the kaleidoscopic colors...all had faded away...it's really sad!
@SovereignBeing Yes, you are absolutely right. I know I'll see him again. I will want him to take me to a rock concert. Our whole marriage was based on rock music!
From 4:20 to 4:40, where's that lush, expansive, rolling synth sound that Mark used on the studio recording? That section just sounds empty here without it.
But can you deny that Bono and hogarth are skilled singers? I love both eras of Marillion though. Just buy fish's Cds and move on. As "clutching" and fish's albums show, They would've gone in a more pop direction even if Hogarth hadn't joined. Please stop arguing about who is better, I think it was a good thing Hogarth joined, Now they are like two good bands. Also, why is your name marillion forever if you hate them now?... (I had to abridge this comment)
Marillion are much better without Fish. Steve Hogarth has given the band a new leasse of life. They would have been finished by now if Fish had remained.

My husband was a huge fan of Marillion. When he died, almost three years ago, I had him dressed in a Marillion Tshirt. God rest him. I miss him.
semplicemente divino....
One of three bands who can draw a tear to me eye. Beautiful, powerful.

Incredible song, sends chills down my spine every time I hear it! Brilliant live version!
brilliant vocal, and even more emotional seeing it live than on CD. Thank you
best song in the marillion catalogue.
simplemente chingon. no hay otra forma de expresar este trabajo

Thanx for posting. Afraid of Sunlight was sensational at the recent gig in Glasgow from the Somewhere Else tour.
Be strong !! We are all with YOU ! LOVE !

A truly great Marillion song
Thanks :)
one of the best song i´ve was hear...
pure brilliance.
I have to agree...when I met Marillion it was like meeting a fellow rocker. Nothing pretentious. It's why they still have a fan in me.
love this song
Sending Love :) from the States! Much Love :):):)
Oh, I really love this song :)
I love it!;-)
thanks for posting, marillion deserves to be nominated for their works
Pete's bass playing on this is superb.

Existential Angst sorry to hear you feel this way. I hope things improve and you see the sunlight again. It’s a beautiful thing ☀️
Adoro
very nice....
brividi brividi... solo brividi ed emozioni!!
What a version! If this doesn't move you, then you're dead!
loved
I've been a huge fan of this band since 80s.. loved it when Fish was there and still love it without him

cause he's cool
This was a French TV show, I believe, from 1999.
Steve is a true sucessor to ιχθής (ancient Greek for Fish), he just as good as he is and he did more songs with the band.
Great song, awesome band, but why so many comments removed by the authors?
Fucking Awesome!
Without FISH Marillion losted the old touch of magic....the brighty shine, the fantasy dreams, the kaleidoscopic colors...all had faded away...it's really sad!
10 ALbums ago! Get over it! H is Marillion
@SovereignBeing Yes, you are absolutely right. I know I'll see him again. I will want him to take me to a rock concert. Our whole marriage was based on rock music!

is there any way to get this in better quality? probably the best live version I've heard
I don't normally stoop to this -but - Fucking Awesome.
I'm already dead, it's a matter of time...
yes, great song. H kicks Fish's butt.
Canta amor
if I cry with this song, please, don't tell me that i am like a girl
@imrael13 Thank you
There were some people leaving stupid comments that had nothing to do with the band or the video so I removed them.
@Shaddoedenise so sorry to hear this :-(
Hogarth rules!!
Well, good for you.
There's no room for stupidity in Marillion's music and lyrics.
;-)
@unlikeanyotherhuman Thank you so much.
H isn't marillion .. nor is Fish. Marillion wouldn't be where it was today without the great talents of trewavas, rothery, mosley, and Kelly.
auta einai!
Este video es la verga

de la reconcha madre :))
Good... but nothing sounds like the Fish time...
Caio
you can't understand...respect anyway

"Phish"??? I think you mean "Fish" the singer, not the really sh!tty band that rhymes!!
