    Originally made as a single half hour video, RUBICON : A Legendary Jeep Trail & Off-Road Adventure was broken down into a 3 part series, each approximately 10 minutes long and done so that it could be broadcasted on UA-cam. In episode 2, we pick-up the pieces of Inyo-JK's Jeep, brush off the dust and continue our trek to Rubicon Springs. Along the way, we pass by the Soup Bowl, take in the impressive views across Spider Lake, descend the off camber granite slabs, tackle the rock obstacles at Buck Island Lake, negotiate our way down the very challenging Big Sluice, add a couple of stock Canadian Jeeps to our group, cross the historic Rubicon Bridge and then, just as we we pull into camp, we hear a call coming in over the CB... it's Trail Bud.
    Crossing through the El Dorado National Forest up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Rubicon Trail is truly one of the most beautiful ones I've been on, bar none. Of course, its unrelenting 22 miles of boulders that need to be crawled, steep ledges that need to be climbed, narrow trees that need to be squeezed between, deep muddy water crossings that need to be forded and tippy off camber terrain that needs to be carefully negotiated is ultimately what makes the Rubicon Trail so legendary and famous around the world.
    More than just a Jeep, it's a way of life!

    toyo's are heavier not only because they are physically much bigger than the bfg but also because their sidewalls are SO MUCH THICKER. if you plan on playing on the rocks, i would highly recommend them over the bfg's. i've had nothing but bad luck with bfg sidewalls failing and they just aren't worth the trouble. plus, having more unsprung weight is a good thing as they help keep your jeep planted on the ground.

    what chrysler says is true and i have seen it done. it takes A LOT more time to do and some winching or strapping may be required depending on the year but, a stock JK can definitely do it and especially so in a 2-door rubicon.

    @Kenzie3131 TJ's are much smaller and can wiggle around obstacles rather than having to take them on. this one just had 31" tires and maybe a budget boost and, if you've watched the whole series, it took days to complete this trail.

    I know that I have close to $40,ooo in my jeep as a toy and I am not done yet with mods for off roading. I love the new 3.6 V-6 but I am in the process of having it upgraded with a super charger for more low end power I do not care for the oil burners. I test drove a experimental version of this engine with the super charger amount other mods and it's unreal how even the power band is not only low crawling but high speed performance. It offsets the taller tires for highway driving. Cheers

  • @wayalife
    @wayalife  13 років тому

    @CrossmanM well, it really depends on the kind of on-road conditions you see through out the year. if you live in an area where you see snow and ice, you really should look into getting a selectable locker like an ARB. they are expensive but, totally worth it. if you live out in the west and rarely see snow and ice, you could get a lunch box locker like an aussie locker. these are way cheaper but, can be trick on slick surfaces.

  • @wayalife
    @wayalife  14 років тому

    @BullShark16 oh, they're just cheap driving lights that we picked up from walmart. i think they are called platnum burners and cost about $18 a pair. being so cheap and available anywhere, they work out quite well.

  • @garycraig4277

    Never got to go over the rubicon but did get to my scuba diving there
    It was awesome especially the depth we did
    Y’all got to try it
    These people are very lucky to you people to find them
    My crew and I found a couple broke down and stranded on a back road twenty miles from nowhere
    They had two dogs
    We all made room for them as we were trying to get out our selves, and didn’t care if we got tickets trying to get back to hotel,as all roads were closed

  • @wayalife
    @wayalife  13 років тому

    @CrossmanM if that's the case, something like an aussie locker would work well for you. they are cheap, relatively easy to install and they work pretty good.

    @lovedavdubs if you can believe it, we still took on some water even with the 40" tires. in fact, we had to pull out to the left as staying to the right only got deeper.

      Wayalife I took a 70s bronco through many years ago. While they're beautiful rigs and fun, they take way too much work to keep going. I'm now looking into an Unlimited with lockers and 44s. Want to keep it low-pro though and drive it around town too. Love the vids!

    congratulations on your new jeep! at bare minimum, i would recommend that you install a good set of rocker guards and tow points front and rear if you don't have them already. that alone will make your jeep capable of doing a lot. the rest is really based on your budget and how big of a tire you hope to run.
