Also remember that Elena Mukhina was doing a skill that is now banned because it's inherently more dangerous. Not only that but she was forced to train on a broken leg that didn't heal properly, and had complained that the skill that was too dangerous, and had already been causing her minor injuries. And in her own words when she got injured her first thought was "Thank God, I won't be going to the Olympics."
it honestly pissed me off a little when she's saying she wants to continue but her body language is screaming "I'm scared but can't be the one to take myself off the floor" while she's clearly trying to stabilize her own neck and no one really notices. She probably didn't even notice
Oh no,she got hurt. I do like this girl and she is good. I am really sorry for her. She was still able to do her vault. Lucky her. I live in Rio De Janeiro.
well done to her for making the right choice however they overused her in rio, not only did she compete in the AA in qualification and the AA final but they also decided to put her in all 4 events in the team final when she wouldve been better off only letting her do her bars and floor routine and giving more of an opportunity to there underdogs, amy wouldve smashed the beam and given team gb a real shot at bronze and ruby wouldve given the team a decent score on vault. ellie deserved to do the all around however 3 times! no wonder she messed up so much, she was overworked and had so much pressure on her when those coaches knew that amy was well good enough to of competed in the aa. team gb really was a mess untill 2020
If u look at 4:10 (the end of the video it shows the score and what place Elissa Downie is in all the information is on the screen at the end of the video)
Eight years after and I'm still wondering what concussion assessment she got - if any at all - considering she was vaulting the next rotation. She really should have been pulled out of the competition.
injuries can take a bit to come into full force, first you can just feel the adrenaline, you don't feel the pain or dizziness immediately, takes some time... Besides I think she really wanted to pull through but decided against it when she felt dizzy
I think Ellie is a great gymnast with a lot of potential and a ton of talent, so don't get me wrong, however, she's a total head case, she cannot handle her nerves for anything and nerves are what cause people to make stupid, ridiculous mistakes. They worry about falling too much and then boom, down they go. You just have to go out there, ignore the crowd, and do what you've always done, of course, that's not easy, but that's where experience comes in, and I think she needed a little more experience before she went to the olympics.
m lily Oh I'm sorry are you saying that if you went to the Olympics you wouldnt be as nervous as her? She was unlucky - the landing before the punch was blind and she just didn't get away with it that time.
It's 2019 and Ellie Downie is doing great. It's amazing what older age can do for gymnasts (Ellie is 20 years old now) despite people claiming little girls are better at gymnastics than women. Glad women are taking the sport back!
its the same thing with a lot of other gymnasts, the venue is different for them but most are still capable of executing their rountine with a few errors. After each tumble her balance was off and then her fall. it seemed too much for her. its the Olympics, everyone brings their A-game, the venue cant be a reason for any mistakes, when shes performing around the world.
Wow people, u r making it seem like a big deal, this was a freak accident she got lost in the air and thought she had enough air to go over that flip, she didnt rebound as well as she should have on the 2.5, however she did it perfectly in the all around , maybe she was nervous but that can happen anytime or anywhere, aly raisman had the same exact fall in london warmups for the team final
And raisman stole that pass form Viktoria Komova? Vika did the same combo except with a stag at the end instead of punch front layout since before 2009... get over yourself, this is a sport with a limited number of combinations especially if you want difficulty.
Heyy Tundo That pass has been done before Aly Raisman and it will be done long after her. If you put it that way, every tumble pass has been stolen apparently...
since when does she have a very similar first pass to aly and almost the same music as laurie?? can you be anymore less original? don’t get more wrong i love this girl but it kinda makes me confused on why she does it?
katie cullum Lmao Americans be like thinking they own everything. That music belongs to Skeleton not Laurie Hernandez, beside the edit is different. And that pass is quite popular among gymnasts since it has C + E indirect connection (they're looking for CVs)😒😒 Many gymnasts are doing it, just because Ally popularize it doesn't mean it hers.
She made the right decision in an incredibly difficult moment. She chose her health over her individual medal potential at the Olympics
She had to think about it a little more
Amazingly sheh still vaulted and had a high enough score on floor to qualify for AA...
Damn that must have hurt. She is still lucky though to survive that
Lucky to have survived AND to not have ended up paralyzed
Poor kid. I'm just glad she was OK, and the rest of you should be too. That could have ended VERY badly. Remember Elena Mukhina?
Also remember that Elena Mukhina was doing a skill that is now banned because it's inherently more dangerous. Not only that but she was forced to train on a broken leg that didn't heal properly, and had complained that the skill that was too dangerous, and had already been causing her minor injuries. It's one thing to watch a teammate get an injury but the entire wait for her return my heart was racing for her poor sister!
Never underestimate the dangers of Gymnastics brutal, I give her a 10 for that.
I'd melt my gold medal down to pay for surgery after suffering an injury like that, she made the right choice choosing her health
it honestly pissed me off a little when she's saying she wants to continue but her body language is screaming "I'm scared but can't be the one to take myself off the floor" while she's clearly trying to stabilize her own neck and no one really notices. She probably didn't even notice
My goodness if her neck was stiffened in that landing she would’ve easily have broken it. Thank God she knew to relax her body when she fell like that
i remember seeing her train wen i was younger, one of my biggest inspirations
Ellie is my fav British gymnast I am not British
Never Give Up
Elisa Dowie!
I'm a gymnast too and have injured my collarbone but she must feel terrible because this is at the olympics.
1:09 OH MY GOD that would of really hurt 🤕
Oh no,she got hurt. I do like this girl and she is good. I am really sorry for her. She was still able to do her vault. Lucky her. I live in Rio De Janeiro.
I hate it in slow mo..... it looks worse
well done to her for making the right choice however they overused her in rio, not only did she compete in the AA in qualification and the AA final but they also decided to put her in all 4 events in the team final when she wouldve been better off only letting her do her bars and floor routine and giving more of an opportunity to there underdogs, amy wouldve smashed the beam and given team gb a real shot at bronze and ruby wouldve given the team a decent score on vault. ellie deserved to do the all around however 3 times! no wonder she messed up so much, she was overworked and had so much pressure on her when those coaches knew that amy was well good enough to of competed in the aa. team gb really was a mess untill 2020
I was a gymnast and I gave it up bc I broke and dislocated a clavicle. And I couldn’t do it for a year.
Poor girl
Same Lauren Hernandez's song 2015
Omg...but she is a great gymnast
1:08 damn
a smart woman
What place did she score ?x
If u look at 4:10 (the end of the video it shows the score and what place Elissa Downie is in all the information is on the screen at the end of the video)
Did she rebound out of the two and a half or did she try and go for the punch front?
Sarah Wright She tried to punch, she said she'd gotten away with it when she landed like that previously but was just unlucky that time
Yes but maybe she put too pressure on herself
poor Eli :(
Did they let her come back and finish?
She came back and performed her vault, qualified for AA. Unfortunately AA didn’t end up going well, falls in her last two events.
😭❤
Eight years after and I'm still wondering what concussion assessment she got - if any at all - considering she was vaulting the next rotation. She really should have been pulled out of the competition.
1:08
Oh, Elissa Downie! She's gonna to hurt.
what score did she get??
Abdelrahman Mohammed she scored 12.500 (5.4, 7.1)
At least Larry Nasser didn’t take care of her 😟
too soon
Lucky!!
Oh no, Ellie Downie!
At least she try her best.👏👏👏
The night I watched it.
The way she landed I thought she broke her neck
coitada
What went wrong? 🤔 She was able to continue her routine even after the fall yet she decided not to finish the routine?
injuries can take a bit to come into full force, first you can just feel the adrenaline, you don't feel the pain or dizziness immediately, takes some time... Besides I think she really wanted to pull through but decided against it when she felt dizzy
Sometimes adrenaline stops the effects kicking in for a little bit
Super dangerous!!

I... agree with all of this.
m lily
Oh I'm sorry are you saying that if you went to the Olympics you wouldnt be as nervous as her? She was unlucky - the landing before the punch was blind and she just didn't get away with it that time.
m lily That's why she's the 2017 European Champion lol
It's 2019 and Ellie Downie is doing great. It's amazing what older age can do for gymnasts (Ellie is 20 years old now) despite people claiming little girls are better at gymnastics than women. Glad women are taking the sport back!
Lizzie Beth and now a World bronze medalist on vault...
quit?
cool
I think the routine was too much for her to do.
No, she's perfectly capable of doing that routine, it was the venue that was too much for her.
its the same thing with a lot of other gymnasts, the venue is different for them but most are still capable of executing their rountine with a few errors. After each tumble her balance was off and then her fall. it seemed too much for her. its the Olympics, everyone brings their A-game, the venue cant be a reason for any mistakes, when shes performing around the world.
m lily NO IT WAS NOT THE VENUE IT WAS SHE WAS NOT READY FOR THE FRONT FLIP BECAUSE IT IS A BLIND LANDING
She was fine in the AA with that routine.
?????
Oiii???
educação europeia é a minha pika 😂
Even though you feel bad for her, that fall was still hilarious.
it was at the beginning, because I couldn`t understand what happened. Seemed like she had landed already at slipp on a step
You are easily- and childishly- amused. Hopefully someday you will reach adulthood… but I doubt it.
she stole that opening pass from aly raisman
And raisman stole that pass form Viktoria Komova? Vika did the same combo except with a stag at the end instead of punch front layout since before 2009...
get over yourself, this is a sport with a limited number of combinations especially if you want difficulty.
kareharpies actually raisman was doing it well before komova. get your facts straight next time before you get so fucking aggressive.
Heyy Tundo SHE is aggressive????
Elisabetta Taccetti right? lol someone's upset about facts. #oops
Heyy Tundo That pass has been done before Aly Raisman and it will be done long after her. If you put it that way, every tumble pass has been stolen apparently...
