Having both the LL36 and FG9M, the FG is probably more immediately impressive because it's louder and has more clarity. The LL36 is sweeter sounding and sometimes is just more of a joy to play. Get the LL36 next time, totally worth having both.

Just sold my FG5 last month in order to purchase the new FG9, could not be happier with it and wouldn’t trade it for the world. At the same time cannot stress enough how nice of a guitar the fg5 is, especially for the price. Such a warm sounding guitar, it really does sound vintage. Was surprised Yamaha never used a Torrified top on the FG9 and would love to know how it would sound. If I had to pick one I’d still choose my FG9 all day long as I find it’s more versatile. Thanks for the video, was the exact comparison I was looking for when I came time to make my decision, cheers.
They both sound amazing. They have their own sound, very different from Martin, Gibson, Guild, etc. At that quality level, which is high in the FG5 let alone the FG9 it just comes down to personal preference. The sound is full and robust. Should be even better once broken in. I have a owned a D18 back in the day- apples and oranges. Not on quality mind you, just sound profile. Certainly these are worthy of consideration. Enjoyed your playing!
Hi Gavin. Thanks for the demo. The FG9 sounds absolutely fantastic! The FG5 sounds great too, in a more subdued way. As a singer, I would probably get the latter, which, I think, would complement my voice. The FG9 seems to be what I call a guitarist’s guitar, i.e., great for bluegrass and instrumental music, but a little intimidating for someone who enjoys singing ballads and fingerpicking. Does that make any sense to you?
Its a great choice for a singer songwriter, great for strumming chords alot of power behind you and it's incredibly dynamic highly recommended the FG9 brother
I would also say the FG9 is actually great for finger style. Its dynamic range is ridiculous, especially for an Adi top. It can be played whisper quite. Because of the above, I’m actually forgoing picking up the FS9 I planned on gettting. The FG9 just does everything exceptionally well.
@@jmsamborski I was looking at the FS9s and they sure do look impressive but I would agree with you I think the FG9 ticks the boxes they are really really good
Thanks for the nice video. Great choice, I love both of your guitars. As a owner of 2 Yamaha FS3s, I really wish Yamaha would release FS9M with 25inchs scale length. As a singer, I really like the scale length of Red label FG/FS for finger-picking and light strumming!
