I met Mark Weir once at PhotoPlus in NY in... I want to say, 2008 or 2009. At the time I was an a700 user, and I was pretty grumpy about... something. I can't remember what, exactly, but it was something firmware related. I think it was flash related, honestly. To his credit, he listened to what I had to say and wrote it down. A very charming and knowledgable guy. Hope he's enjoying a well deserved retirement.
Well, finally I gave in after increasingly enthusiastic and ever-improving deal-oriented offers and intro's from your sponsor OM-System, and bought an OM-5 and 12-45. This compliments my Canon R kit. :)
Jordan’s moustache is oddly mesmerizing-now we just need Jaron to give it a whirl! And Chris, well, he looks amazing no matter what. Anyway… loving the podcast, you guys are absolutely crushing it with the quality and effort.
I don't feel like the Osmo pocket 3 is really an action camera, it's too fragile. I feel like it's a creator/vlog camera. It's what the canon v10 wishes it was. I absolutely love mine
I don’t think DJI Markets the pocket series as action cams. They have the action Pro series. I suspect that there are many more “Pocket camera users” of the pocket than creators and vlogggers. Petapixel is a great camera channel but they’re a little inexperienced with action cameras. The pocket 3 is not an action cam as Jordan stated and their recent action cam comparison missed the ball by leaving out key things that action cam users look for - such as image stabilization, battery life and overheating.
Man, I have bolted an DJI Pocket 2 to the windshield of a semi truck and It Made the raddest videos you can imagine! It was simply amazing and showed some ruggedness and Wind resistance I would have never imagined
JORDAN's FULL SEND for this episode was AMAZING Also that question at 25:40 about the Pocket 3's tracking was freaking hilarious EDIT: Jordan's speakpipe hahahaaaa

Look at what you started. Peta pixel dream report: Chris and Jordan were both really into a goal of fishing in every corner of the world (sorry Jordan). My dream picks up with them in Hawaii standing in the surf. But this is not a relaxing fishing outing (sorry Chris) this is more of an extreme sport as they are wearing wetsuits and protective gear like helmets and padding. We see them from Jaron's perspective as he films and narrates their endeavor from the beach. He is really having fun as the two struggle to stay on their feet in the heavy wind and waves. Just before my alarm woke me up Jaron is yelling at the two of them to check out the sea turtle on their left, then shifts the camera from the two of them who had been knocked into each other by a wave and were getting untangled and trying to stand up as Jaron is talking to the viewers about the turtle.
my 10 yr daughter signed up for a darkroom photography class randomly, and now she is excited to take photos suddenly which has never been true with digital. and I'm like oh gawd, okay, so now I've got two batteries on order for an old Minolta AF-C and we're gonna get that going (probably ought to get some film ...)
For the PetaPixel perks, would love a daily trivia question. Could be a fun fact about the crew or obscure photographical trivia. Would get onboard for that alone
It would be awesome for subscribers to be able to watch the weekly podcast ad free. I'll admit that I'm not sure how you would do that. There were so many ads in today's episode that I stopped halfway through. Not sure if you have control over the number of ads. I'll probably switch to the audio version. Chris' dog Penny s very, very cute! She should be on every week!
Petapixel is a great camera channel but they appear a little inexperienced with action cameras. The pocket 3 is not an action cam as Jordan stated and their recent action cam comparison missed the ball by leaving out key things that action cam users look for - such as image stabilization, battery life and overheating.
I started photography 50 years ago. 20 years ago I got my first digital camera (I had been using computers by 10 years by then). A few years I tried some film again and NOPE! I will NEVER go back. There is no nostalgia for film or the BW darkroom or for the experience of the process what-so-ever.
How did nobody mention readout speed, fps, (no) blackout free EVF, (no) pre-capture to the guy wanting to switch from OM-1 to A7CR? If you struggle to shoot BiF with the OM-1... man are you in for a surprise with the A7CR! You need to spend at least $4k on a FF camera in order to get/keep all the actually useful wildlife features that the OM-1 has - a Z8, R5 II, A1. You could get away with an A9 II, but won't have the high resolution. Also the guy calling to ask about Zf vs Z6 III sounds just like the guy running Sony Alpha Rumors.
No surprise on the pocket 3. It's a very well put together do-it-all. It's not the best. Not the worst. But it hits the middle just right. The beige Toyota Camry of vlog (don't call it action) style cameras.
Great segment as usual. I listen in my car, so UA-cam is not an option. I'd really like to see you guys spitball some guidelines on what constitutes a "fake" photo. Most of the discussions I have seen talk about the easy stuff, like generative fill (picture grandma riding a bike topless in Tahiti). But the obvious examples are easy. When does an edit cross the line? Are double exposures fake? What about long exposures? What's the difference in sensor spot removal, and removal of a bird in the sky? You use the same tool. Is it just intent? I once shot an ND filter shot where I moved around a room. The resultant image showed me in 4 different spots. Is that faked? Is fake imagery like porn, we know it when we see it?
I saw stereo slide photos on a museum once and I agree, it's just so different, a different experience. And you don't need vision pro for that. But yeah there's really no cheap entry to it, that is high resolution/quality.
Biggest change was the pivot from adding improvements to the outgoing model and introducing new camera's at a significant higher price point, that was the end of the line for general consumers and a lot of enthousiasts.
Chris, Jaron and Jordan, just out of curiosity, what type of color temperature do you prefer for white light in your homes? For example, I lean a little more toward tungsten warmer coloring, whereas some of my family members prefer a very white bluish, cooler temperature. I'm just curious if any of you have a preference.
4th, I once went to the office dressed as Kendoka, as I used to practice it in my youthful days. Dogs are awesome BTW. I modded an A6500 with OpenMemories, as it was a japanese model and my japanese is still rusty.
I do believe you should have paused for 15-20 seconds for affect and authenticity when speaking of the R!. Proud owner of TWO of them - and the readout speed off that sensor matched to the CF card - UGH - but that glass was so wonderful.... Still watching - love to know his view on my other dinosaur - RX1...
I'm not even a huge video guy and I am probably gonna snag one of those Pocket 3's soon, at this point seems silly not to wait and see if there are any Black Fridays deals on it.
Glad Tamron is focusing on zooms, I'm tired of constantly seeing an endless array of new primes. Although I do wish they hadn't settled on 28mm as their key focal length base.
Hope that there will be a Pocket with a full frame sensor, that's what's holding me back from getting the 3. The quality is impressive for sure but I hope from advancements, a full frame sensor variant can exist. Then I can remove the RS 3 Mini & Mic and go back to a strap + camera setup while I have the Pocket... in my pocket!
Coming back to say - I use adblockers (the internet is unusable without one these days IMO), but have signed up for a Petapixel membership anyway. Nice to support and all that, I derive a fair amount of information and entertainment from the site, the podcast and of course the YT channel. A possible feature request for members perhaps - whether it's for a niche use case of one, ie me - is that on signing up, I was surprised to find that I couldn't comment on Petapixel articles as a member, but would need to sign up for a third party service like Disqus, or link a FB account, which I don't have. Perhaps it's an inherent feature of the site that the comment section is a Disqus run plugin, but it would be good to be able to comment/interact with the site using the one Petapixel membership/login. Also, perhaps a forum or Discord server in the future?
I just hope Sony release c2pa license to a7SIII already. I love c2pa (already use the command line and even more, that Cr icon I got it working with my web dev experience [life long learning, using some tools I learned on the side, but only tested it localhost, haha vite and node tools]
Hi there! Long time subscriber, first time commenter here :) You've mentioned, that thete is kinda not enough compact primes on the market right now (yeah, i remember the "first party" part 😅). So... I'd like to point your attention towards the Sigma "I series" primes, which are a pretty fresh line of optics (~2y). For some reason there is not a lot of media coverage on these full metal lenses, supposedly with some interesting characters 😏 Soooo... Is there any possibility of you, guys, reviewing theese? (Watch out! I can create my own UA-cam channel and get all the views myself! 😈😂)
Regarding Tim Hughe's question: I find it interesting that the R8 rarely gets brought up as a contender in the compact camera discussion. It's actually lighter than the A7C and not much bigger. The slight size increase also affords it a much better grip. If there was a good market for third party RF glass I think it would become one of the best selling bodies. Having the smaller battery and the lack of an IBIS unit are not as big drawbacks for general stills usage as they are sometimes made out to be.
About the Tamron zoomes-nobody-else-makes thing, where is the 200-400mm f/4 Tamron patented two years ago? This is one of my dream lenses, if it ever becomes a reality!
What? You don’t like the long, droning slow-ball questions asked by clueless boomers and adoring simps that in most cases could’ve been answered with a Google search? Shocking.
I think they're interesting if they're limited to a 15 second chunk of audio. I think when they get tiring is when someone drones on for a solid minute or longer because they don't know how to edit their question down to something concise. In those cases it would be better served by an email.
Not expecting this to end up in the video, but I was researching about the A9 III a bit, and was wondering, have you ever corrected the mistake you made in the review which happened because you are using the wescott flashes for your reviews ? In the review you guys mention flash timing as an universal issue and hassle, but actually this was already only issue with 3rd party flashes even before release. Back then even in pre release material sony reps showed around (even in eastern europistan, but clearly the promo material was issued globally) that with Sony and Profoto flashes there are no need for timing adjustments when shooting with very high speeds as they automatically sync up. Very rare occassion that being sponsored actually drives you guys into a mistake, but this is something to keep in mind if the global shutter revolution happens
That’s why I hate Apple for reinventing terminologies when they enter a new market. I know the question is about Apple’s Vision Pro specifically, but the way Jaron praises “Spatial Photos”, it makes people think what Apple doing in VR is unique. The original iPhone was innovative. The Vision Pro is like putting out their first EV car 10 years after everyone has already done it.
I mean it’s so much newer and more modern but it lacks soul baby! There was always something so influential about the F15 from transformers, to the Cold War standoffs with the Foxbats and Flankers, and the excellent ground attack and multi role versions. Plus it’s just so sexy looking and muscular. I also have a soft spot for the design esthetic of the Russian fulcrums and flankers too.

They want to cancel this prime before it's out while they're at it? They also say they could do an 85 1.2, but there are already options.. Where they at on Sony E Mount exactly? Come on Tamron, what are you doing?
perks for the subscription thing ? none come to mind as I do not use the peta pixel website mind you i have seen more and more youtubers move content behind paywalls and things like that, so just a heads up to try avoid that paywall things as its a good way to simply reduce the content I watch each month
@@PetaPixel thank you, was concerned that with the recent push to private platforms that it might be something that was happening here as well do you have other ways we can support ? apart from buying shirts and things like that ? as I dont read I dont check the website at all, I do watch all the adds on videos though as I do value the time you put in some other form of support might be handy ?
For sure. As part of our launch of Memberships, we explicitly said we wouldn't go to locking any of our articles or videos behind a paywall. If you're enjoying stuff now, then you can expect to find all of that unchanged. You can think of Memberships exactly like Patreon. Even if you don't read the site, being a member directly supports Chris and Jordan. It's really the best way we can think of.
+1 to the mustache! Just one request. Can you please stop giving into Apple marketing and calling things spatial computing and spatial photography and simply call them by their actual names such as augmented reality or 3D photos? They keep using those terms because they're trying to disassociate themselves from low quality VR and AR headsets but it's an annoying term that has no real value just like the whole retina display thing that means nothing when you actually ask them to define it.
I would love to see more Olympus/OM and Pentax videos! :D It is sad how you are reading the OM part about lenses. 12-100/4 is really excellent lens and 14-150 is perfect for hiking light. Both with very nice range. Both sealed. 12-100/4 image output is superb for zoom.
At least put Tom Cruise in the video title if he's gonna be on the podcast... sheesh no respect for the stars, no wonder PetaPixel sucks at astrophotography.
Jordan, you're the best. Thanks for keeping the podcast fresh and fun!
Jordan is the RIO we all need.
12/10 mustache vibes. Keep it

Ok, already fantastically strong intro 😂

Jordan and Chris frustrating Jaron is my favourite thing haha.

Jordan: keep it!
What an amazing interview, a lot of great insight on the industry.
He would have been a good person to ask why all the manufacturers (other than OM/Olympus) avoid incorporating computational photography.
How did nobody mention readout speed, fps, (no) blackout free EVF, (no) pre-capture to the guy wanting to switch from OM-1 to A7CR? Nice mustache!!
Too bad Tamron is not investing more in prime lenses...
"everything hairy is awesome this week" amen
Really disappointed Tamron has abandoned primes. Love my F mount 35/1.8 VC.

(Watch out! I can create my own UA-cam channel and get all the views myself! 😈😂)
It’s OK, let Viltrox and others make primes, but prepare for them do awesome zooms too
Regarding Tim Hughe's question: I find it interesting that the R8 rarely gets brought up as a contender in the compact camera discussion. It's actually lighter than the A7C and not much bigger. canon has the same in ef format, so not really groundbreaking
Chris should always cuddle the dog.
I suggest to give up on the speak pipes they are tiring

@ and also always starts with giving them praises bla bla…
Would've been interesting to ask about the state of Zeiss or if Sony basically copied their lenses and dropped them.
Awwwwwwwww please please PLEASE have Penny on the podcast every episode because she's the most adorable little nugget.
I would love to. Maybe not every episode but we you may yet see her again.
@niccollsvideo yeeeeeeeeeeeeeey, thank you :)

Hi Guys, ALL MISSING Your Honest RF 28-70mm f/2.8 IS STM Review - PLS PLS PLS :)
Please bring the dog again next week!
DANGERZONEEEEEEEEEE
Why didnt you ask him why lens stopped having great optical images and now depend of lens correction profiles 🤔
MORE PUPPY!!!
Sorry Chris, the F-22 Raptor is a far superior Air Superiority Fighter than the F-15.
What?
- Jordan
@ Ah you’re right there, the F-15 does have a lot more culture and influence with it. Don’t forget Robotech/Macross from the 80s too, I always saw the F-15 in those jets.
@ Yes!!! Although they did feature the UN Spacy forces rocking F14s as well. Especially skull squadron. What a great show!
@ Heck yes! Rick Hunter, Max…oh man, pure greatness of old school anime.
1:11:35 has weird audio video sync issues :D
"That video guy"? -- Is his name Gordon?
Strong chance Tamron has agreed to not release primes with their own branding due to agreements with other brands like Nikon
Triple-P...I like that😁Hope, Tim didn't forget to copyright this...👍
Tamron for Zooms, Sigma for primes? The old world is shifting, many different Chinese brands pop up. I guess we'll have to wait.
I was wondering if Chris's dog is real or not in the first place
No AI here! She’s very real and very sweet.
too bad lume cube stopped making the lume cube air... great little kits.
Jodan looks like Sgt. Slaughter
Goose-Jordan! 😂😂😂❤
Wow tom cruse

Sorry, the F-35 surpasses all other fighters at this time, even the F-22.
It's performance-to-cost ratio, though.... let's not talk about that. 😛

I think its a 7 out of 10 jordans.
It is sad how you are reading the OM part about lenses. 12-100/4 is really excellent lens and 14-150 is perfect for hiking light. Both with very nice range. Both sealed. 12-100/4 image output is superb for zoom.
I’d pay three bucks for a feature that hides every article about AI
I own the original Revoring and its a dreadful product, the mechanism constantly gets stuck on it..
ppp boys
4 x5's yes lol
At least put Tom Cruise in the video title if he's gonna be on the podcast... sheesh no respect for the stars, no wonder PetaPixel sucks at astrophotography.
Sorry guys, nothing new here
