    To answer Arin's question, it's not possible to always reverse-engineer the two piles into the original sequence. The easiest way to prove this is to create two different sequences that would both create the same two piles at the end. Consider the following two sequences:
    Triangle, Triangle, Circle, Triangle
    OR
    Triangle, Circle, Triangle, Triangle.
    Both different sequences but would create the same two piles: Triangle on the left, and Triangle, Circle, Triangle on the right.

      Nieru Yeah I think they try too hard to be like... idk I guess “proper” in their videos. They don’t play sillier games too much and they often pick popular games they find annoying. It’s a lot funner to watch them have fun than it is to watch them feel they have to talk 100% of the time and can’t focus on the game at all. Because 1. The game is less fun for them and 2. They don’t do as well in the game, making everyone (including them) frustrated.
      In conclusion I don’t come here for top-notch gaming or commentary, I just want them to enjoy themselves because they’re funny to watch that way.

    Here's a proof by contradiction that Arin's hypothesis that you can reverse engineer decks is wrong:
    The "AAABA" and "ABAAA" would both result in a left pile of AA and a right pile of ABA. Therefore, you cannot always reverse engineer decks with the resulting piles.
    That said, you can reproduce some or most decks or most parts of most decks. For example, on the round Arin asked the question, all cards in the left pile could be put back into the right pile, except for the stars and a the last second pentagon.

    • @dragonfurry69
      @dragonfurry69 4 роки тому +7

      I feel like you could reverse engineer it if you were given the last card and categorization. If you were given "A was the last card, and it was different," you could reproduce AAABA, and conversely "A was last, and it was same," you would get ABAAA. There could be something I'm not thinking of, though.
      Edit: I'm mistaken; Eva H is correct and so are you.

      I mean, theoretically, you could reverse engineer it if you just covered every possible sequence, given the two piles. You might not know *which* sequence is correct without watching video of the piles being made, but *one* of those decks is definitely an exact duplicate of the original

    Yes, as long as you are told which pile is which, you can identify the sequence. The "different" pile will identify whenever you change shapes, after all. Just reverse the order of both piles (so you can go through them face up) and know that every time the "same" pile matches the middle pile, you drop the matching card onto it. If it doesn't match, put the "different" pile card onto it.
    Try it with a deck of cards, sorting by suits instead of shapes.

    Dan probably had an advantage during the one game because he is a musician. He looks at sheet music, sees the key and has the stored in temporary memory, or in a bar and a note is made sharp/flat and the next time that note is used in that bar, it remains sharp/flat if not noted otherwise. Just something his brain is trained to to that helps with that one game.

      I think people really underappreciate how much math goes into being good at anything musical. It's especially relevant in understanding key signatures and keeping time.
      That being said, everyone I know who is good at music is also pretty good with language. Not necessarily spelling or knowing obscure facts, but they can read off a page and make it sound natural the first time, moreso than anyone else I know.
      I think overlap between academic disciplines is really interesting.

    No, Arin, you can not accurately reverse engineer the piles. There just isn’t enough information there to do it. You’ll know all of the ones on the right were different, but you won’t know which same ones were grouped with which different ones. Like if you got 4 triangles in a row, then a square, then 3 more triangles, you’d have 5 triangles in the same pile together, and you wouldn’t know where to put them back the right way. Unless you were able to record yourself and refer to the video, or you just had a perfect memory. Otherwise, if it’s like a different person trying to reverse engineer the piles without knowing how they came apart, it’s impossible for them to know.

    Arin, Yes ! You can reverse the sequence!
    By looking at the stacks: if top kard is same first go left stuck, if again same next goes also left stuck, if these is different cards then goes right stuck's card and if again same -left one. And so on!

  • @mikki1576

    I think you’d be able to, if you start by looking at the different pile. If you do that you keep going until you find the first shape from the different pile that matches the same pile, and go from there

    Arin, you could mostly reconstruct the original sequence but there can be ambiguous piles with multiple valid reconstructions. (Although only one of those reconstructions would be equivalent to the sequence you originally had)

    27:55 I feel like you could as long as there were no mistakes you would start on the same side until you get a different shape then take from the different shape pile until it matches the same pile and do that until you’ve returned the decks into one

    Yes if the shape on the right is the same in the left, then the left goes in the center pile, and if they are different then the shape on the right goes in the center pile

    Not a mathematician but I believe that you could not reverse engineer the sequence without knowing which card was played last.

  • @TheAnimatorsUnite
    @TheAnimatorsUnite 4 роки тому

    As a magician that does a similar effect to splitting up the cards in red and black order, there is a way to reverse engineering it. You can either remember the sequence(not as hard as you would think with memory systems like mnemonic major system and binary code, since this is essentially a binary string) or you could sneakily lay the cards down differently every time a new sequence starts.

  • @TissueCat
    @TissueCat 4 роки тому +1

    27:46 No, you wouldn't necessarily be able to reverse engineer it. Let's say you just have four shapes. You end up with ▲ in the left pile and ▲■▲ in the right pile. The original sequence could be either ▲■▲▲ or ▲▲■▲.
