- New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald is looking to make some major moves this Offseason.
His BIG GAME HUNTING is officially underway, and he officially kicked if off a few days ago...
He solidified the net when he obtained Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames.
Jacob Markstrom is the most legitimate goaltender the New Jersey Devils have had since Cory Schneider.
Fitz now needs to round out the rest of this NJ Devils roster, which includes revamping the defense which looked absolutely pathetic at times last year.
What is one way to go about this?!?

Ace, I love that you are at it 24/7. Yours is the 1st channel I to go to for Devils info. Thank you! I think Tanev will be the harder of the pair to sign because he will want a longer term contract. It will depend on what Fitz will feel comfortable with versus the many other teams vying for his services.

Good video ! Zadarov should be the # 1 priority . I would have him higher up the depth chart than Siegenthauler. If they could pull off that triple move & secure him & Tanev , I think a package move for Ross Coulton & return of Miles Wood would be enough for the offense
@larryblumenfeld1623 I hope Fitz has his eye on him. Zadorov is better than Siegenthaler, however I was trying to create balanced pairings. If Zadorov was swapped with Siegs, it would leave a Zadorov/Hamilton pairing (which would be a monstrous pair) and Siegs/Nemec (not mean enough). But if we somehow got both guys, I’m sure we may see some juggling with the pairs before settling on long term ones
Agreed except Miles Wood takes too many penalties at the worst moments, especially in the playoffs

I'd like to see Zadorov to ultimately pair with Nemec and Brendan Dillon to pair with Luke for a few years. Would have to move one or both of Seigs and Marino.

Love the thinking. I'd swing for the fences and get Zadorov first. If Tanev isnt possible then get one of Hakanpaa or Dillon. If Zadorov doesn't work out, then get Pesce and still pursue Dillon, Tanev, or Hakanpaa.
@topjimmy72 Absolutely swinging for the fences. Zadorov is a monster truck and we need him. I really hope he makes it to Free Agency to see what his options are. I think Pesce is going to get overpaid based on everything I have been seeing out there. I like Dillon too; some of his contract projections are all over the place. He's definitely a guy I'd be in on if I were Fitz
I think Nemec has more potential to be more gritty compared to Luke so having Zadorov/Nemec (matured version) could be a pretty nasty pairing in a year or two.
@kkacperowski I would certainly hope so! My grandmother is grittier than Luke! lmao. Zadorov and Nemec has the potential to be LETHAL in due time. I would absolutely love to see it. I hope these Pesce rumors turn out to be BS. Because we aren't getting Pesce AND Zadorov.
Marino and Siegenthaler are expendable...after Bahl, these 2 can take a hike if we can get a Zadarov or Pesce.

I’m gonna be honest here. I don’t think Luke Hughes is ready the NHL yet. He doesn’t play like he should. Plus knocking pucks into your own empty net is not too good. They should send down to the ahl for a bit
@CrissPOPS I think his career was fast tracked because of the family name. There is 0 chance of him going to the AHL at this point.

At 6'6", Zadorov will absolutely LEVEL Rempe. Would love to see him in NJ. He would be exactly what Hughes and Nemec need to develop into beasts. I love that pairing you came out with. That would be amazing if we landed that...and if we by some miracle, #BringBradytoNJ, you planning a party? Haha

I would love to get both of them as well. We have the cap space, we have the roster spots and it would make our team hard to play against. I still believe Seamus Casey will be a stud in this league and will be called up sooner than later this year. This is an unbelievable time to be a Devils fan with so many star studded players.

I like Marino he wasn’t good last year but his first year with the devils was good. Siegs is decent but he can be traded.

Lots of rumors about Pesce to NJ on July 1. If it is true, who knows, there is no way Marino or Siegs are not on the way out...and if they also want one of Tanev or Zadorov that would mean both Siegs and Marino would get moved. Fitz might really show he isn't playing games.
@LouieNJ If Fitz moves both Marino and Siegs after dealing Bahl, I would be somewhat shocked. That is a major overhaul on the defense. Hopefully for the better...

Its affecting your logic.😂 I love Zadarov ( even when he will take the boneheaded penalty) his size and relative younger age is important, plus he is a left D. Prefer Pesce over Tanev. Tanev will turn 35 this season and he isn't remotely as physical as you imply. Rather build a D that will play together for next 5 years and not have to turn it all over again in 2 years. Disagree about keeping Seiganthaler over Marino. Could lose both but if i had to keep 1 it would be Marino. Seen enough of Jonas getting beat by guys that Kenny Danyeko could out skate 😂
@walterramirez4443 Zadorov is perfect. Tanev eats pucks. Pesce will cost a good chunk more than Tanev. I like Pesce, but I like Zadorov much more. I can’t see Fitz getting both of them. I would much rather keep Marino than Siegenthaler. However, I took a realistic approach here; Marino would definitely be the easier one to move. Siegenthaler would likely be much more difficult. In a video last week I said that I expected 2 of the 3 of Bahl, Marino and Siegs to be moved. I was hoping Bahl was the one that stayed put. Obviously Calgary valued him the most and he was put in the trade to get Markstrom.

If he was seriously "big game hunting " he would have already traded Nemec, Mercer and the 10th pick for Brady Tkachuk. I believe that Tkachuk would do for this team what acquiring Scott Stevens did. Total trajectory change for next 10 years.
@walterramirez4443 Pesce and Zadorov would be tight for sure. I’d love to see it, I just can’t see it happening. You’re preaching to the choir about Brady. You know I want him more than anything! I just think Ottawa can’t accept the inevitable, and they’re desperately hoping to turn the franchise around before he demands out. Hopefully they miss the playoffs this season and Brady tells them he’s outta there next offseason. It’s unfortunate they seemingly won’t deal now though, because that #10 pick is a beautiful piece to put into the package for him!

I miss Devils Hockey. The hallmark of Devils Hockey was DEFENSE FIRST!! If these 2 guys bring back defense, a no bullshit punishing defense like you said ala Scott Stevens, then I'm all for it. It's great we have a young high speed scoring corps, but we need a shutdown defense.
@anjdevil2 bringing in these two guys would certainly move this current team a bit closer to the DNA of the Old School Devils. It is a necessary element to win!
Canucks fan here. We love Zadorov too but he wants $6M for 5 years. He’s played great in the playoffs, but his long history in the NHL shows he’s best in a 3rd pairing role. On the 2nd pair, he makes too many mistakes. He’s a beast in the playoffs, but $5.5-$6M is too much for his role in the cap era.

Zadarov should be priority number #1 on Fitz list. He would be the perfect physical player the Devils are currently lacking. Also, he can hit some NY Blue Skirt players...lol

Zadorov would bring similiar attributes Brady Tkachuk has, he loves to hit so aggressive defansmen. Tanev could be interesting add also since maybe he is not as aggressive he did block heck of a lot of shots so he is willing to get hurt block a shot. I’d prefer to keep Marino but I still want Zadorov bad. He would be great. I just feel Marino has some heart and talent.

Last year's debacle season really has me down on many guys. I wouldn't be mad if he sticks around though. He better step it up now. But if the upgrade is there for the Devils, they need to take it. It would be nice if the Devils get both of them, but I doubt that they get either of them. If they do get only 1 of them, the Devils would have a better of getting Zadorov than Tanev.

I agree about the Merino deal. His cap hit is higher. They're both the same age. Siegenthaler is a bigger dude. I think Marino is a little more offensively inclined so it's going to suck losing him. I would honestly not want to choose between the two of them. Zadorov is an upgrade over either of them but it still hurts LOL

I’d be very happy if both were Devils. As for having room to add to the forwards, that can wait till Trade Deadline or next years offseason. As long as Jack makes a full recovery, we are set up front. Those shot blocking stats for Tanev are awesome. Im with you though, if it’s one be the big guy. I hear the Devils are front runners for Pesce, we will see how this all unfolds soon!

Ace, I am actively searching for details on the rumors of Marino for Rutger Mcgrorty the gritty prospect that is captain at Michigan and captain of team USA.
Kid wants to play in the US and is giving Winnipeg signing problems. Drafted 2 years ago, scouts are saying he is ready for NHL in 24. 1.4 points per game with a nasty physical edge and huge leadership skills.
Just kicking the tires right now, but this really feels like the year to free up space and salary for UFA defense.
3 years of entry level contract to Rutger looks really nice too.
He is Winnipegs top rated prospect by far. It may take a pick plus Marino (not 10 OA).

@matthewwarnke170 I am always skiddish when trading for unproven players. From everything I have read on this kid, he seems to be the real deal. I need to watch some video on this kid and I will circle back. If he is legitimately ready for the NHL, I would certainly explore it.

I think it'd be closer to 12 mil for both than 10mil. Zadorov wants 6x6 and Tanev will get at least 5, even at his age, due to market demand. I think Markstrom has a closer friendship with Tanev, but if he can somehow help convince both of them to come to NJ that'd be a grand slam. Excited for next Monday!

I'm a Canucks fan so I really want us to resign him, but not at $6 million. That's too much.
On the other hand, he's almost guaranteed to get at least that much. In fact, I've seen a prediction that he will get as much as $6.5 million on July 1st.
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me to see the AAV reach that stupid high number. I agree it's too much, and yet multiple teams will still pony up.

@@runninwiththedevils His regular season numbers were only worth about $4 million. Playoff numbers were a smaller sample size and worth the $6 million. Split the difference for $5 million, maybe $5.25 million.
Also, since you want at least a 22-man roster, the Canucks have $17 million to sign 6 players, while the Devils have $15 million to sign 4 players. Additionally, the Canucks have OEL's buyout increasing to $4 million next season, so we have far less wiggle room with the cap than the Devils have.
I'm a Flames fan who is really interested in what the Devil's are building. I would be weary of overpaying Zadarov but he is a good player. Tanev is an amazing player but also not what most people expect. He's not your typical big gritty D-man who throws hits and is a psychical force. His grit is purely from his ability to take hits and block shots. I think a lot of people get confused at what type of player he is. A Zadarov-Tanev pairing never worked in Calgary which is surprising because Tanev fit well with everyone else he played with. I think Tanev would be the perfect guy to put next to Hughes on the blue line.
@randdomize858 Welcome aboard the Devils bandwagon. We would love to have you rooting for the Devils as your Eastern Conference team. What do you think is overpayment for Zadorov? Contracts across the board have gotten nutty lately. I just hope he can bring him here. We need his physicality and snarl, in the form of thunderous hits. Our team has been so soft and pathetic for years. I believe he instantly changes that. I love the grit Tanev brings, in the form of blocking shots with his face. We absolutely need that element as well. These are 2 HOCKEY PLAYERS. Right now our lineup has too many kids on it....
@@runninwiththedevils With Zadarov if the AAV starts going over 5 I would start to question it. It's only been the last two years he started to really look like a top 4 d-man and I worry he might regress after getting a big deal but I could be wrong. The big hits and nastiness is nice but he will leave you shaking your head at some of the decision making. Him and Tanev are just the complete opposites in that way where Zad can be very erratic and chase hits/overplay the puck and try to do too much while Tanev just makes the right play 99% of the time. That's just my opinion from watching them for awhile and I look forward to following the Devils this upcoming season.

If these guys prioritize going after the Cup and being on a team that will be in the hunt every year, NJ is going to be a VERY attractive landing spot. Cap-wise, Fitz can make it work as long as he moves some money out. Siegenthaler and Marino both have a NTC kicking in on July 1st so one of them is going to have to get moved ASAP. Maybe it's a deal that goes down at the draft. The one thing that's really going to be tough, however, is being able to sign both of them and extend Mercer and then trying to get a forward that Fitz says he's hunting for. There's going to have to be a pretty significant move made to clear enough money to make all of this affordable, and unless another Fitzgerald magic trick happens where Palat waives his NMC and agrees to get traded somewhere (which I'd imagine would be done along with a pick as a sweetener to take on that salary), I don't know if there's going to be enough money to go after anyone else of significance. Not impossible, but it's not going to be easy. But if NJ can get even ONE of these two d'men, it will be a massive help on that back end.
@WaltBTB I hope players are smart enough to realize last season was a complete debacle, and that we are truly going to be positioned to compete for a Cup for years to come! Fitz must move one out. A couple weeks ago I said I would love to see 2 of the 3 of Siegs, Marino and Bahl moved out. (with my preference being trading Siegs and Marino) Unfortunately Bahl had to be one of the 2 moved out. 1 down and 1 to go. Being able to move Palat is a definite wildcard. I do think dangling a pick(s) or other pieces could potentially get a team to take that contract on. The next few weeks are going to be realllllllll interesting. I would love to see both of these guys end up here. I will consider it completely unacceptable if we don't get at least 1 of them. LET'S GO DEVILS!!!
ive seen credible insiders say pesce is likely coming to the devils, does this mean its concrete? no but its being said a lot. ive been very open about how i feel about tanev, and id love zadorov as well, i dont know enough about pesce to say hes what we need but i know enough to know that he does play the game the right way.
@TheShadow590 Pesce is a definite upgrade, but is he the BEST possible upgrade?!? I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, I would be happy to get him. But I think there are other defensemen I would rather have. Like the guys featured in this video!

That would be 2 Huge pieces for Big game hunting, Big Boys like Stevens and Danako back there.
With the Draft coming up so quickly, a trade I think Fitz could go after is, Frank Vantrano & Zegras for our first round pick, Anaheim rebuilding a rebuild like us after 2018 they’re selling this summer think those 2 with Tanev and Zadorov would be a nice 5 (including markstrom) Zegras and Hughes bros have a lot of chemistry growing up on team USA together the power plays would be insane. we could have 2 full power play units 1 minute each similar to Carolina and Florida.
I am only saying because fitz said 5 big moves and remember when everyone said we are the Oilers of the east they made some big time moves after missing playoffs in 2019 and now they’re 1 win away from a cup. They’re a different team with the same core ( Nuge, Nurse, McDavid, Draisaitl ) built the team around them to win in the playoffs huge difference having Hyman over Zach Kassian little things all add up.I could see Vanatro dropping 40 goals on a line with Hughes and Zegras
@SnelSports BIG GAME HUNTING can kick into high gear with the acquisition of these two. A deal with Anaheim would be interesting. Those 2 could never come here WITH Tanev and Zadorov. We would be wayyyy over the cap. For that to be a realistic possibility, there would need to be some other major moves to free up cap. I have always like Zegras. I just have a feeling he will never live up to his potential?!? His Michigan goals are damn entertaining though!
If cap space becomes a problem to improve the front end, I think NJ needs to think about finding a trade partner to send a package of Casey and Palat away simply for cap clearing purposes. Palat’s contract is a boat anchor which another team may take on if it meant landing Casey. Picks / Prospects in return and add an improved forward through free agency.

Zadorov is the guy. I didn't consider Tanev because he's a couple years older and I thought he might cost more but I guess so would Pesce or Skjei so ... why not.

It would be a nice defensive grab by Fitz but it would cost. We have cap space. I like to see Fitzgerald sign Mercer and get that over with now!

People forget we have to pay Luke and Nemec in a few years. No cap room for big guns unless we unload a big gun (Dougie). Which would be ok by me. Dude is lazy and refuses to play defense. But it won't happen the Devils seem to not want to work with Russian players since the Kovy debacle

Agree. Zadorov will only sign for top 4 minutes as will Tanev. So that means only one of them is possible as Fitzgerald is looking for 1 top D and 1 bottom. The latter will be inexpensive seasoned D in 1.5-2M range
