HOW I ORGANIZED THIS PROJECT: I separated my contacts into four categories: everyone I met in college, everyone I met post-grad, camp people, and anyone in my life before college. The first day, I called people from college people and post-grad. I thought that these categories would be more of a "warm up" because there were more friends that I talked to normally in these groups. Day two was more dreaded because I was really nervous to call people from High School, mainly because I didn't know if I was on good terms with some people... watch and find out what happens :) I didn't really have a strategy, but as I was going along I would ask for a song request or life advice if I felt like the other person was expecting me to ask them for something. Some people were like, "oh, okay cool, bye" and so there wasn't a need for a prompt lol.
WHAT I LEARNED: I would say that out of all the calls, only half of the people answered... maybe closer a third? I did get a lot of texts over the next few weeks from people that missed my calls that said things like, "did you mean to call me?" People assumed it was an accident. Going into this, I was really nervous because I didn't really want to call a lot of people that I hadn't talked to in forever-- BUT you'll see in the video that most people were really friendly and actually wanted to catch up and tell me how they were doing. I got to catch up with my old coaches, camp counselors, and high school friends. It showed me that even though a lot of time went by, it wasn't all that weird to check in with someone and hear about their life updates-- and a lot of people appreciated it. I was grateful for that because I was scared to waste people's time, but a lot of people said things like, "this made my day," or "thanks so much for calling," and it seemed like they meant it. Since filming, I've called a lot of people back that wanted to talk longer than my video time allowed for and I've been so thankful for the opportunity to reconnect with so many people. Also, something interesting: because I put myself on so many people's radars (I guess), I started getting more people reaching out to me for help with different things after that. Over the next week or so, I had people ask me to shoot their senior photos, house sit, be on a podcast, ect. It was like, by reminding people, "hey, I'm here" opened up the opportunity to put myself out there and get some gigs and make some $$ woohoo. Also, I got some really good new music out of it. I would seriously consider doing something like this in like, 10 years because I feel like it was a really good exercise. Would recommend :)
