- This episode we spend a day in Siena, celebrate our baby's first birthday and I bake the adults a seven layer chocolate and coffee cream opera cake. My father builds a DIY playhouse for Gianfranco and we continue the renovations of our farmhouse in Tuscany, Italy.

Every day I get so many emails and comments asking why you can’t locate the music I use or find it using Shazam. I purchase music licenses for almost all the music you hear in my videos. I buy them them from various royalty-free production music sites and most of the time they don’t list the performer because it’s music made only for film productions with an audio watermark throughout the entire track, unless you purchase the single-use license for $50-100 per track. I use a lot of opera so often I’ll reference the opera but I won’t be able to direct you to a recording of that specific performance that you could stream or buy on iTunes or Spotify. Hope that clears things up and thank you for appreciating quality music.

I have noticed that most Italian cooks use very simple methods such as hand mixing, cutting herbs with a knife nonna style, crushing chilis by hand, using a mortar and pestle. So refreshing not hearing the sound of motors in the kitchen yet listening to the beating of a wooden spoon against a ceramic bowl or whipping sounds of a whisk against the enamel pot. Brava!

I agree. So far I have no mobile phone, no dishwasher and no microwave. Love using tools rather than gadgets. I find the sound of electrical machinery very jarring. Not having machines also slows us down; good.
We have a very big problem with noise pollution. Even a peaceful walk is interrupted by leaf blowers, lawn mowers, construction machinery in the distance, you name it.

Oh, I agree. The same color as the bathroom will make your room feel like the sun is shining even on a cloudy day.
For the pool area, why not use a screen, attached to a frame, that will be easy to move when you are ready but keeps your little one out of the pool. There is a rod that goes into the ground and holds the screen in place. The frame could be plastic, vinyl or wood, and the screens are also different colors, some being used as sun screens on windows. I live in Arizona and many people use these screen fences to keep children and pets out of the pool area. Just a suggestion until you find what you want permanently. ❤ Happy First Birthday Gianfranco🎉

The rope fence is lovely, but he could very easily climb it! I would suggest something that is not able to be climbed because that is always a temptation for kids.

11:04 - that drawer paper is such a treasure. A photo could be taken and then a master at PhotoShop or Adobe Lightroom could clean it up to look like the day it was printed, and then print anew if you liked. An elegant, cheerful kitchen wallpaper on one wall perhaps? Or a fabric for summer furniture slipcovers...

Just paused this beautiful video to say, YES, paint your bedroom the same as the bathroom....definitely NOT white! When you have 'dressed' your bedroom it will take on a completely different feel to the bathroom, despite having the same wall colour! You definitely got your workout in. I'd paint same color as the bathroom for the cohesiveness. Plus it is a beautiful color. Your baby has grown so fast. He's just perfect.
Lovely video. The view out of your bathroom window is AMAZING! If I might. I have two suggestion. I would paint your bedroom the same color as your bathroom but one to two shades lighter. Secondly a pool fence is a very good idea I would also enroll Gianfranco in swimming classes now. He's not too young to learn.

The scenery in this was just gorgeous!!! You are so blessed to live there. I would continue the wall paint color from the bathroom into the bedroom, but maybe one accent wall such as behind the bed. There, for your dark color. Siena was astoundingly beautiful!

Kylie our children are taught to float before they can crawl. When they fall in they are able to right themselves and float for quite some time.

I think a very classic look would be wrought iron fence around the pool, with a clipped hedge on the outside of it, to soften it against the rest of the garden.

Special when you can share your child with your families. It starts a totally different relationship with your parents. I have to say I quite enjoy my age 4 and5 yr old granddaughters and have a wonderful shared experience with my daughter and her husband’s family in Bologna. Happy Birthday!

Besides a fence, giant can be taught to swim now. They can be taught to roll over on their backs and calmly float and get to side of pool, there r many safety swim techniques children his age can be taught

Kylie! Maintain the bathroom colour throughout. It is perfect in your Tuscan light and provides continuity and brightness. You do not want to darken that wonderful space! I think that you alight bout the rope being tempting for wee ones to climb. A more expensive choice, admittedly, but appropriate for your home would be metal railings but looking at the length of the pool, it would be prohibitively expensive. What about a picket fence. Or the fencing material I always see in UK gardens that are sort of horizontal wavy, and rustic but cut down to the proper height. As this is often used, I get the sense it may not be too expensive. Plus, as it ages, it will turn to a lovely silvery colour. Possibly, though, that might obstruct your view of the glorious blue of the water. Lovely vlog. Thanks, Kylie!
Pool idea - white metal posts with wide chicken wire. I wish I could send a picture, but friends have it and it's beautiful - greenery traveling up the sides. Good luck!

Kylie they have an automatic safety pool cover… And also rolling decks.. So many choices to choose from it can be very overwhelming, but for the peace of mind it’s worth it!

A year old already! What a beautiful year for a beautiful family. Best wishes for a healthy and happy year ahead.
We spent the month of September in a villa we rented outside the town of Montevarchi. We had various guest throughout the month and picking where to go to make the most of our time was difficult. We opted to not visit Siena and now I wish we had. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Tuscany. The towns we did visit we would go into the local owned places and avoided the tourist traps. We were shocked to see how inexpensive food and drink were compared to the USA. We plan to visit again in the future. Your videos really helped with our visit.

@@KylieFlavell Yes I noticed;-) I hope you can use the bathroom especially the bathtub earlier. Its such a nice room and looks so cosy especially with the great landscape outside! I guess the sleeproom will be in progress for a few months, so maybe the family can have nice chilling tub evenings at the end of a long workday at the property before. So have much fun, you worked so hard in and for it!!

I would be tempted to use black iron fencing. Iron seems to be in keeping with aged buildings. Black also seems to disappear as you look through it. You have great taste Kylie & you are very sensitive to preserving, while updating, the aged buildings & surroundings so whatever you choose it will be beautiful!
I liked that you chose to give your son pears instead of the cake with sugar. If only we never were exposed to sugar I don't think we would want it.

For the br...maybe a gradual progression...a textural cream tone mixed with the yellow of the bathroom. I think you'll just have to pay with it. Or do something completely drastic dark and cozy.

Lovely cinematography Kylie!! This calms me so much and fills me with so much joy and the beauty of life! I was wondering if you had some advice regarding this, I think a lot of other people can relate too. So being a creative with ambitions in the artistic field, it is so crushing working a 9 - 5 job, i currently work in healthcare and its so draining due to other people etc, and all I wanna do is pursue my artistic pursuits because thats where I find my greatest joy. Any advice?

How about using a row of large planting containers, from wood or even terracotta, to create a barrier along side the pool, plus a gate to enter the pool area. Or you could plant a hedge, with a fence basically hidden inside.
