Here’s my small little anecdote to your explanation. I was a 3/4 supinator, with the ability to manipulate to sometimes go higher or lower, sometimes unintentionally. I had the ability to throw a cutty 4 seam (90% ish efficiency), firm cutter 4ish off the fastball, firm gyro-slutter 5-8 off the fastball, big curve 15+ off the fb, sweeper 10 off the fb, and sometimes a seam shift change up right at about 70-80% efficiency. Never mastered the sinker buts truly a cheat code to having a wide arsenal. Looking back I probably could have even thrown in a death ball if I messed around with it but never got the chance to
I'm low, only pitched once in my time playing. 1. Running 2sm (runs gloveside breaks back sometimes) 2. Splitter 3. Cutter (has lots of vertical break) 4. Slurve 5. 12-6 curve Thoughts on this?
@treadathletics Submarine pitch types by slot! Like, how does pitch design change for high angle sub pitchers like Tim Hill, or true subs like Tyler Rogers? I really loved your guys' How to train as a submarine video from last December!
Thank you! Realistically, you could probably expect to get that info from our case study content with our athletes rather than a separate subby pitch type video like this one. It's just very specific to each individual's anatomical preferences and mobility. If you have specific questions regarding yourself (if you're subby), please don't hesitate to reach out!
if you are a low slow pronater do you still have to pronate their changeup.Because if your a low slot you naturally get side spin. for example chris sale doesn't pronate his changeup and still get's great depth because he naturally gets side spin
Sale still pronates his changeup. If you look at his 99% Spin efficiency of the pitch as well as his 9:15 spin axis, you'll notice that he's kicking the axis down compared to his fastball and sinker which are both at 9:45. However, he still yields some deviation during ball flight
I saw you mention in the comments of a Trevor May video that you were looking into Josh Hader’s reverse SSW fastball and if thats a viable option for other pronators, any update on that? Great video as always!
Thank you! It's an incredibly unique fastball characteristic. It's a difficult one to implement because most pitchers increase supination at higher intent levels. This adds a layer of complexity in sub-max and high intent yet not game-like bullpen scenarios, since they tend to pronate more in those settings, making those metrics unreliable at times
CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY THIS YEAR 🎉🎉🎉
As a low three quarter guy, this helps a lot.

I swear TreadAthletics can read my mind lol
ive needed this video for so long
Sale getting big results shows exactly how well a low-slot pronator has the potential to perform.

Priceless

sale is more of a supinator he gets depth on his changeup by cutting it and seamshift

That was a terrific reply, thank you!
what do you think aboiut my spin axis being much higher than my arm slot since my arm is a bit bent at release
You may be cutting it at that point
do yall have a video about how to tell if youre a pronator or supinator?
There's a link at the 8:18 mark in this video!

5:33 would be great to see so close ups of the cut-changeup. Just seems so odd
Here's a breakdown of one of the best in the league:
