I think they knocked the design out of the park. One of the things keeping me from getting the Rog phone WAS the flamboyant, extra, almost boyish/toyish looking aesthetic. It's a phone first and foremost. I don't want it to scream "look at me I'm just an overgrown child in an adult's body". It was one of the reasons I picked the zenphone. This is much more sophisticated and "chic" looking for a phone that I use every day. BIG improvement. I always hated how the "gamer aesthetic" meant i needed a bunch of disco lights flashing everywhere. My "gaming PC" is built into a Fractal North chassis just for this reason.
Originally i was going to go for the Redmagic 9 Pro, but the more I see of this one, the more I want it. Pretty syre this will be my next phone. Thanks for your review.
I'm curious if the Kunai 3 gamepad will work with this phone, I realize the Rog phone 8 is a bit smaller then the previous models but is the software compatible? You could always modify the case with spacers so the phone fits comfortably
Well as you said 4:13 I think it's time for separating the ROG Series like their laptop, ROG Strix phone that have most of the essentials of previous ROG Phones, dual front firing speakers with their own amplifier, camera in the bezel, bezel for preventing the input from palm to be registered to the screen, screen on the back and flap for cooling even if there's lower IP Rating, thick body for beefier battery, and all the goodies they have since the ROG Phone 1. Then the Zephyrus Phone with more "mainstream" designs, better cameras than the Strix, max IP Rating, thinner, etc just like this ROG Phone 8.
I think this is the the 5th of your videos I watched and your style is quite a fresh air from shopping channel like millions of other ytbers. Subscribed as well. Keep up the good work. One little (hopefully constructive) criticism that I would have is the very (very, overly) use of airquotes in gestures. You have a very unique and commandable style that I think doesn't need those. Great review compared to others ive watched. Couple of things that need reporting on and this one has been an issue since rog5. The ability to stream with the fan connected. The Rog3 was the last version of the phone that allowed us to have the fan connected then connect our phones via usbc to our pc to stream via obs. That last few models have denied us that ability so we cant stream with the fan connected. We ROG users have been trying to get asus to fix that issue. On ur next vid please address this. This is a deal breaker for me if my gonna buy the 8pro edition or stick with my older rog devices.
The camera quality is probably is main thing for the decision making this round. The rest is pretty much just a minor upgrade in performance. Great review. 😁👍🏻

So far the specs are great. I couldn't care less about the gamer look. I like the more minimalist look of the new ROG phone. But the price is insane. I do hope they include the cooler in the 8 pro with 12gb ram.

the only problem is asus try to copy other phone design when edge to edge, now put big black eye punch hole, when you see video you see a big dot in the middle. previous versions, the top edge does not block the view even front punch is exist. asus cannot make under display but can no do something about it? the most powerful phone hardware now have the problem.
side note.... this is evidently an approach to getting a slice of the premium market ... but I guess getting a limited edition ROG7 makes more sense as we hold out to see the sales performance (you might end up saving $300+ if you are patient enough)

This is the first time I am using an ROG phone. Yes the speaker is an L, but I am not using its speaker to play PUBG or other FPS games since I have a wired headphone. Battery? It's an LTPO AMOLED and it is pretty optimized so there's little to no difference in terms of draining. The one thing that keeps me from an ROG phone before is its looks, it's like over the top. But the ROG 8 is like sleek and tamed but still is intriguing if people gets to see the AniMe back which is mush useful for notifications rather than a useless RGB BS.
Performance wise it does have some hicups fps can still drop here and there. It's pretty decen but don't get overhyped, frames wise iphone is still better in my opinion, just a friendly advise to consider before you rush into bed with asus. Iam using the rog phone 8 pro edition and it's not worth the money performance wise
The snapdragon 8 gen 3 are already in so many other major players already like the Redmagic 9 pro, which starts at $650 which is killing this phone imo for price to performance, with a much larger battery and an uninterrupted display, a built in fan, plus ir blaster among other things, and they rog is charging over $1k for theirs...
Disappointed that software support is limited to only 2 years. Asus need to up their game and offer atleast 3 years of software support & 4 years of Security Patches (on time). Asus need to break in the Indian Market , someone who could challenge Samsung & Apple. Google is struggling so far & Chinese companies are just meh.
