You have peace and love in the home that you have created with your wife and your kids, as you have described your parents I would not want them around my children or my spouse. You did not leave them high and dry, you offered to help pay for assisted living, protect your peace.

You have extended family? Tell them that if they are so concerned to do the job themselves if they are so concerned. You owe your parents nothing. BTW: I had a very similar experience growing up.
