German shepards and boxers are very protective and alert dogs (only when necessary). I own a boxer dog. He is great. He has the typical aloof stance boxers generally have. I read a lot about guard and working dogs. He will be a great loveable pet in the house and an alert, powerful protective guard dog on the outside. Also, german shepherds and boxer are not typically mean, but they have good protection insticts when they really need to.
omg look how close the boxer stands and barks etc.. and doesn move.. i would love to do this training with my boxer .. they look like they really thrive on the "working"
@superfattymatty the sport is called Schutzhund, it's a three phase sport that tests the dogs abilities to track footsteps, perform a precise advanced obedience routine, and protect his handler/apprehend a fleeing suspect.. years of training goes into competing at these levels, not to mention working with the right breed and specific dog, the right club/trainer, etc.. the actual speed the dog is capable of running is meaningless for this work as they all are fast enough for apprehending a man
The "stick" hits are not real hits. The helper (guy with the bite sleeve) would only actually touch the dog twice in this exercise, per the rules. The rest are just hitting motions to build the dog's confidence and get him to not fear the stick. By they way, the "stick" is a soft, flexible rod that mostly just makes noise. I do this every weekend and believe me, the dogs love doing it.
They DO thrive on working. Check out the Boxers that are herding sheep in competitions with the American Herding Breed Association. They are outdoing the herding breeds. I herd with my Boxer and know she would be even better on cattle. A Canadian Boxer is has multiple high in trials in cattle trials. GREAT DOGS. The ABC has finally allowed us to petition AKC to allow Boxers to herd for titles. Small thing, but at least one way to show their working drive in our largest kennel registry...
@kozmon0t I totaly agree with what your saying whats the point of having the arm with the weapon free to stab and kill the dog in a real situation, not saying the dog isent any good.

Boxers are one of the smartest breeds I've ever owned. Please tell me he wasn't actually hitting that dog!
