  • SpaceX Starship, a remarkable creation from the visionary private space exploration company founded by Elon Musk, is an extraordinary feat of engineering that embodies the limitless potential of human ingenuity. The Starship represents a pioneering concept in space travel, providing an advanced, fully reusable transportation system designed to propel both crew and cargo beyond the frontiers of Earth's orbit and enable unparalleled point-to-point travel on our planet.
    This awe-inspiring spacecraft comprises two distinct but interdependent components: the powerful Super Heavy booster and the sleek, futuristic Starship spacecraft. The Super Heavy booster serves as the initial thrust mechanism that catapults the Starship spacecraft into orbit, while the Starship spacecraft itself is responsible for carrying both crew and cargo to their intended extraterrestrial destinations.
    Fashioned out of the ultra-durable stainless steel, the Starship spacecraft is a masterful creation of technological sophistication that can carry up to 100 people and accommodate a staggering payload capacity of up to 150 metric tons. The spacecraft boasts a bevy of cutting-edge features, including robust engines and state-of-the-art avionics systems that guarantee the utmost safety and precision in the spacecraft's landings on various extraterrestrial surfaces.
    SpaceX's relentless commitment to innovation and progress is evident in their extensive testing of the Starship prototype at their launch facility in South Texas. The company envisions a future where the Starship spacecraft serves as a vital tool for humanity's exploration of the Moon and Mars, as well as facilitating commercial point-to-point travel on our planet. With the Starship, SpaceX hopes to expand the horizons of space travel, making it more accessible and affordable for everyone and ushering in a new era of human achievement and exploration.

      I don't know if we are talking about the same SpaceX here.
      Artemis 1 took over 11 years to launch if I'm not wrong, SpaceX only really started to develop Starship around 2019, and 4 years after, they already tried to go for a orbital launch, sure, it took some time, but this was way faster than SLS.
      SpaceX is constantly applying changes and modifications for Starship to make sure it works, i do agree it's not going to be tomorrow that Starship works, but I'd say it's a safe bet to say that from 2 or 3 years from now, Starship would be working fully.
      SLS is very expensive, very slow and right now, barely capable of delivery something heavy to Low Earth Orbit, or even Trans Lunar Injection. They need to get the Exploration upper stage in it to make it a serious rocket when it comes to delivering cargo to the Moon.

Also, at one point, the exhaust plume seems at an angle - was this intentional, perhaps capturing the fact that the booster will be viewed at an angle? Great visualization. But I'm betting the first stage doesn't bother to cut off the three center engines after separation. If I were designing this process, I'd use the gimbal authority of those three engines to help flip the rocket around quickly. Once it's completed about 90 degrees or so of rotation, I'd throttle back up to slow the rotation and execute a boost back burn.
    If you are going to do hot staging of the second stage, it makes no sense to not also leave those engines lit and leverage them ASAP for a faster return to launch site. Saving time here - even on the first stage - also saves fuel, which improves the mass to orbit.

    • @gasdive
      @gasdive 11 місяців тому

      It seems unclear at this time what the best solution is.
      3 engines is still a lot of thrust, about 180 tonnes at near the deepest throttle. That will give close to 1g of acceleration for the empty booster.
      Meanwhile the second stage must accelerate away from the booster using only part throttle so it doesn't destroy the top of the booster. It's completely full of prop and payload. It seems unlikely that it can accelerate away at better than 1g.
      It may be necessary to shut down all the booster engines to enable separation.

    • @gasdive
      @gasdive 11 місяців тому

      @@squidwardfromua it might still be able to hot stage.
      If the 2nd stage engines light while the first stage is thrusting, then the first stage shuts down to allow staging, that's a hot stage and the 2nd stage is accelerating the whole time so there should be no issues with fuel settlement. Just means the 1st stage will need a relight for boost back.

    Great animation as always! However, I believe Elon stated that the hot stage would start with the three sea level engines at 50% before the vacuum engines light up about 1-2 seconds later. It's also unclear if the booster will actually shut down it's 3 engines, but we probably won't know any of these details for sure until the next launch.

      I'm pretty sure that he said that the booster will have 3 engines at 50% throttle, he never confirmed anything about the engines on Starship itself.

    Nice video but three critical comments anyway:
    1) The gases would be ejected from the nozzles at a much much higher velocity than you show (both bososter and ship)
    2) The shaking/vibrations @1:34 make any sense at all!
    3) Starting @2:22 why the deformation of the image???

    Wouldn‘t Starship accelerate away from the booster quite a lot faster than shown here?

    • @bongi6811
      @bongi6811 Рік тому +3

      The thrust to weight ration of a fully fueled starship is pretty low since it currently only hast six raptor engines, but I agree that it would be a bit faster than shown in this animation since the booster is also in free fall, so the acceleration of the starship relative to it should at least be 1g, more likely even around 1.5g.

    • @simongeard4824
      @simongeard4824 11 місяців тому +1

      No, and that's one of the open questions about how this would work. As others have noted, the booster won't be shutting down all engines as portrayed in the video - they'll be keeping three engines running on low power, using them for the turnaround, then opening the throttle for the boost-back. As such, it's not clear how quickly they'll separate... Ship will be running more more engines and more thrust, but also carrying a lot more fuel mass than the near-empty booster.

  • @Sir_Uncle_Ned
    @Sir_Uncle_Ned 11 місяців тому

    I can see how this would be cheaper and easier than whatever they were trying to do earlier. You need to separate the stages and get the starship engines lit anyway, so may as well kill two birds with one stone. The russians have been doing it since day 1 and it seems to work very well for them. And if there is any western company I trust to pull it off, it's SpaceX. Look at how many "impossible" things they have made mundane and routine! We have rapid reuse of an orbital rocket, we have landings on barges out at sea, we have dual landings for the Falcon Heavy, and so much more besides!
    We were exploring space before, but SpaceX have really thrown open the floodgates.

      Look up the term 'lens flare' please.. and no, it's not bad cgi, it's actually good cgi, recreating what REAL GLASS lenses in objectives do when they project very bright light sources. Have you seen pictures of the James Webb Space telescope? Even that thing does stuff like that.. in real.

    • @theOrionsarms
      @theOrionsarms Рік тому

      @@joansparky4439 actually the really high quality picture of the superheavy booster(from the only test) didn't have square shaped nozzle, what you explain is a optical artifact , that is applying only for some telescopes mirrors (some have four diffraction lines, but others like Webb sixth spike ) and have nothing to do with this video(because they don't charge the shape of a object, but only add long spike to it). A bad CGI is only that, don't try to get another motivation behind that, because it is not.
