Cool event but i prefer to walk solo. Being alone in nature gives you great peace and time to think. Occasionally meeting another solo adventurer and exchanging experiences is very rewarding. Do Fjällräven Classic but try solo at least once in your life.

(old comment I know) This was also initially my first thought, but I have to admit this looks fun! Can keep solo hiking the rest of the year ;)

I never get evangelical about a company or brand, but I absolutely love Fjallraven... their gear, their ethos, and the community they have nurtured. I may have to do the Classic in 2019! I didn't even realise it happens in other countries besides Sweden! Looks great fun.

I'm sorry, but I was on the Kungsleden during the Fjällräven Classic and I gotta say, it's just too much. There are almost 2000 people walking the trail in a couple of days, which means you're not alone in nature at all, there is a constant line of walking people in front and after you. In addition, the trail is completely destroyed after all these people trampled over it... And to top it all off, there is a "checkpoint" every 3 miles or so, that serves hot beverages and cookies, which is quite nice, but not really part of a hiking adventure.
So, in conclusion, the idea of hiking together is great, but if it's so commercialized and if there are so many people from all over the world it's neither good for the hikers, the trail nor nature.

The American girl at 2:20 who says American don't get out the same way the Swede's do is completely wrong. We have a massive section hiking and thru hiking culture. Scandinavians also carry way too much and the items are individually too heavy. Even at their latitudes you can be ultralight and fully comfortable.

I'd say that it depends on the person. I've met all colors of trekkers from both europe and north america: some lumbering around with military surplus boots and large external frames with things hanging from it, to guys in tights hopping by with barely more than a camelback. Aside from the brands they use, I don't see much difference based on nationality.

Having too much weight really isn't something that is country-specific, some carry alot, some carry very little. It's a matter of taste and experience and not a matter of wich corner of the world you're from

MattShafter Also remember that scandinavian weather changes a lot and fast. I was hiking in Denmark. It went form 30C to 5C in 2 hours.
