- A commercial for Pabst Blue Ribbon beer from 1979. It stars a young Patrick Swayze. This film was recently found in our archives and re-transferred to HD quality. Pabst Blue Ribbon on my mind.........
We are looking for credits. Can anyone help out?
If they just showed this commercial today with no explanation or ironic throwback prelude, people would 100% buy more PBR.
that's the thing about their marketing. i took a tour of the Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee and the reason Pabst came back was the Grunge movement and word of mouth. No ads, no marketing, no billboards, just some counter culture kids who wanted some good cheap beer
PABST
I guess in some ways, Johnny Russell was a bit of a spokesman for them with "Rednecks, White Sox and Blue Ribbon Beer"
Patrick's costar is dancer/actress Denise Richard. The commercial was shot in NYC over a 3 day period. If I remember correctly, the cinematographer was Ralf D. Bode, who was also the director of photography on Saturday Night Fever.
Not Richards. It doesn't look remotely like her. Swayze with a woman who might very well be his wife, Lisa Niemi, in this 1979 commercial for Pabst Blue Ribbon.
@@pablobruning4508 no, it can't be Lisa. If you look really closely and in slow motion, you can see it's not her.
Denise Richards would have been 8 years old when this commercial came out so I'm thinking it's not her
@@farmthug0085 - Thinking... LOL!!!! She definitely is not 8 years old here and Pabst wouldn't do a commercial like that ever!!!
Guy walks into a bar and asks "What's the cheapest thing here?"
Barmaid: "Well, at the present time, that would be YOU!"
That's the Buddy I knew, just a few years earlier ('73-'76). A truly nice, lovely guy that nobody could dislike (even the guys who were jealous of him). A really good partner, too, as we get just a little glimpse of here. Not sure, but I think that is his eventual wife, Lisa Niemi, dancing with him. I love ads that give dancers work (some from the past include Great American Soup, Dr. Pepper, and Ebay).
My Uncle, Kurt Grayson was in a Shasta root beer commercial where he walks in yelling out, BARKEEP Give me something that's good, A chorus line of gals starts singing, It's Shasta Mr Shane, the finest root beer in the world, they all do a dance, Kurt is boot stomping, its on UA-cam if you search Shasta root beer tv ad, Shasta Mr Shane.
I can't stop watching. Terrific song
wow he looks like dirk diggler.... really great quality for 79
I remember this song from when i was 8. What a nice jingly jingle jinger.
Hope I'm not the only one drinking an ice cold beer watching beer videos.
Where did you find such a crystal clear copy of this? The quality is amazing.
me too , grrr Simmons.
Road House!
Does anyone else find the quality of this video surprisingly good for a commercial from the 70s?
That was my question...how the hell is this in HD?
@@joeblough261 I don't remember commenting on this 10 years ago lol but in retrospect I am assuming it was digitally upscasled/sharpened.
@@JRMillion LOL! When I saw that your comment was 10 years old I thought, "I hope the dude is still alive!" Glad you are, let's have a few Pabst to celebrate, ha
Because the 70' were just effing better then them all !!!
I actually watch this to psych myself up before going out all the time.
That is awesome! I think I will as well right along with the scene in "Gone in 60 Seconds" when they are meditating to the music before they go steal cars!
Me too

Genius
Wow! I have never wanted a Pabst Blue Ribbon as much as I do now!
RIP Patrick. Damn, that dude could dance.
This might be the greatest commercial i have ever seen!!!
Listen2Motorhead I’ve never seen this before until now. I totally agree’!
🤣🤣
right up there with the Hamms Beer commercial with the bear in the jeep
Watch Campbell’s Soup commercial with Ann Miller (dancing) .
Also …. I’ve seen Motörhead over ten times !!
One time Man-O-War opened and they were extremely loud .
Luckily , Motörhead were not as loud that night !!
If Patrick Swayze did Saturday Night Fever.
Actually, this commercial is made to sound like the Bee-Gees, even though they had NOTHING to do with this!
It just SOUNDS like they did!
And commercials like THIS, would lead to a string of lawsuits, later on!
If Swayze did SNF, the game would be over and I think Travolta wouldn’t be as famous.
Funny enough Swayze played Danny Zuko in Grease on Broadway briefly.
@@ojsilva1975 Wow Ozzy-Something to ponder! :)
A. Barnard yes! If Swayze did SNF and Travolta did Dirty Dancing... sheesh. That’s REALLY something to think about to this day.
CRAYZE for SWAYZE. This guy sure had charisma.
fr
That was great RlP Swayze
WAVY they don’t commercials like this anymore. Especially with great actors.
"How closely can we rip off Saturday Night Fever without paying royalties?"
This song is what's known as either a "sound alike" or "style alike".
Something written to ape the real thing, but all the while, just stopping short of plagiarism.
Composers run into this all the time- it's called "temp music"! :)
YES! LMAO
he just had done SKATETOWN USA so there was that too
Dirty Dancing
Some of the music vaguely sounds like The Hustle!
Watching these vintage ads while trying Pabst Blue Ribbon for the first time in my life. Cheers from Brazil!
When the sun goes down,
and the evening rolls around
That's the time I find,
got Blue Ribbon on mind!
I've got Pabst Blue Ribbon on my mind!
More and more lately, I find!
I've got a taste for livin',
I'm thinkin' cold Blue Ribbon,
I've got Pabst Blue Ribbon on my mind!
It's good when the sun comes up too😋
PBR has never been so classy
Nobody put PBR in the corner!
This is a true classic
First its funny then its like damn this song isnt bad and swazye looks amazing
good beer in 1979... good beer in 2015.
Good beer since 1844, good beer in 2022!!! Will always be the American classic!
70s and 80s beer.
As someone who drinks PBR I can confirm that this is exactly what happens when I drink it
RIP Swayze - my you sure could dance!
How close was his nose to the wall when he left?
This is the greatest thing ever created.
A perfect combination, Disco and PBR
I love this song
Great HD quality! Good commercial. How about the hair flip and bounce?
Woww ! thats were he left from to be a "Cooler" in Kansas at the Double Dushe!?
wait,wait... this is before Drunk Dirty Dancing, isn't it ?
“Pabst don’t hurt.” 😆🍻
A sip of Pabst and you can dance like him
they should re-air this commercial
OMG...what a hidden gem.
This is the best thing I have seen on you tube - ever - Bohdi!!!!!
so good!!! Patrick sure could dance.
I think he was professionally trained
Damn good

This video is how I feel after I drink 12 cans of PBR and then go out in public.
This song is going to be stuck in my head for days.
Patrick Swayze---one heck of a talented and gifted man! No question about that!
And PBR lover!!! :)
Patrick Swayze is amazing!!
Best beer commercial I have ever seen.
If he had sold a box full of holes, I had bought 1 billion. I swear.
LOVE it ! Great to see Patrick Swayze ❤️🧡💛
Way to go Swazi!!!!!!!
Swayze looks like he is walking down the street set from Laverne & Shirley at the start of this ad.
Right down from the Pabst Brewery!
Wow! Blast from the fucking past! DISCO LIVES! RIP PATRICK.
And thus, this is how Patrick Swayze got stared in Dirty Dancing {idk, actually}
PBR and disco both fell out of favor Fortunately only PBR made a comeback.
RIP Sweet Prince.
Oh...I miss Patrick so much...😔❤
I'd drink beer if Patrick would kiss me like that. [Yes, I know he's dead. There's always that kiss like in the movie "Ghost".]
How to rip off the Bee-Gees without making it seem like you are doing so!
RIP. patrick swayze.
My dad still tells me all the time about the evils of disco
I didn't know Patrick Swayze was a hipster.
Nice vintage commercial w/ Swayze! Love the PBR too!
Patrick était beau danseur dans cette pub américaine💗
RIP Patrick
I, too, like to fill my mind with thoughts of specific brands of beer when I'm on evenings out with beautiful women at nightclubs.
OMG that SCARF! That HAIR! He doesn't look old enough to DRINK! The OUTFIT! Yeeesh. Thank you Simmons. You just ruined my night.
Holy f*ck, this is almost as good as the Barbasol commercial and 20 years it's elder.
@0:04 the cool way to step out of one's appartment
Best beer commercial I've ever seen, disco and all, lol.
Pabst Blue Ribbon: preferred beer of festivals and staple "sneak-in drink" at raves nation-wide. Fuck Yeah!
Wow, even Pabst went disco. ._.
I'm calling BS on this. He doesn't have PBR on his mind. He's got "I wonder if I'm going to get past second base" on his mind
The PBR is just a cheap way to facilitate that goal.
Move over Budweiser. There’s a new King in town. 🍺 🍻
Brewed originally in my old home town, Peoria Il.
+Teresa Boze Peoria city hall - such a beautiful building
+Teresa Boze Actually in Peoria Heights...
Originally brewed in Milwaukee, WI and they opened the Peoria brewery in the 30s. Nice try tho
Since 1844!-that is a lot of history. And then it won a blue ribbon in 1893! I want to try this beer.
Roadhouse!
How could 37 people not like this?
I remember seeing White folks on TV.
0:10 DAT HAIR FLIP
This is much better than it has any real right to be...
he was a great dancer that Patrick
Damn you Simmons!!
i hate PBR but Swayze is officially my all-time idol, guy could do it all
Patrick Swayze and his dancing partner wife Lisa Niemi who were married in 1975!
The Bee Gees totally ripped off this song.
DowntownCanon they sure did. good call, DC!
DowntownCanon Not quite...The Bee Gees Stayin' Alive, and similar sounding songs that came out on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, were all released in 1977...two years before this commercial.
Rebekah Long saracasm, Rebekah, it's all about sarcasm here on the retromercial portion of youtube.
Swayze and PBR. What could be better?
That's some Dirty Dancing right there
love the hair toss around :11
Just checking in to see if PBR is gayer than Bud Light.
Anything's good if Patrick Swayze's in it.
Even so I can't relate to the disco side of this PBR me ASAP!
@jerkin4life541 I laughed so hard at this.
Damn, Swayze could move. That guy had it.
The 1980’s where being white was cool
I'm dreaming was born on 60's to have a chance with him :)
This is the besteset commercial of all times.
Awesome!!!
Can’t believe this is in HD and widescreen! Great piece of nostalgia and Swayze history!
The song is actually good tho.
Anyone who does a commercial for PBR is automatically awesome. This is just the way of the world.
He is blowing the other dancers on the floor! He could move!
I just had a seizure from Swayze's moves
Pabst blue ribbon baby!!!
Oh yeah, it's not my favorite beer, Craft and dark beers hold that place in my heart. But it is by far one the best in its price range.
Best grilling out, lawn mowing, working out in your yard and working man's beer you can find! Traditional American roots and heritage! This is the beer that made the fabric of America!!!
