Considering a big criticism of current gen consoles is that they are full of remasters of past generation moves, this wouldn't be a wise move. All the Switch Zelda games need are patches for better resolution and a higher framerate. Besides, we still don't have Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D, The Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, A Link Between Worlds and Tri Force Heroes on current hardware.
*Makes good point about how releasing old generational titles back to the market hurts the current gaming market *follows up by demanding rerelases of old generational titles
@@shigerumiyamoto9612 He points out that being the case with franchises with existing evergreen titles like Animal Crossing and Smash Bros. In this case, we are still years off from the next 3D Zelda. Also the difference is that BOTW would already be playable on the Switch successor.
A best selling game would be perfect to re -release on switch. Not perfect for people who want to buy new games. But it would certainly sell systems as consumers have shown time and time again they are willing to purchase upgrades of past popular titles
The problem with simply patching all games for the new console is that Nintendo, as a business, doesn’t earn extra cash from that. I do like the idea of the console being inherently backwards compatible, and upgrade patches being exclusively offered to NSO Expansion Pack members, because it solves this problem without being a PR nightmare as you’re suggesting
If this IS a thing, I think it will be a successor only NSO exclusive upgrade or $10-$20 upgrade. My first instinct is that Nintendo would be too afraid of backlash from re-releasing a game at full or near full price that is relatively fresh in their customer's minds.
They could make it part of the Expansion Pack tier - it'd help to push some sales. Also, on that note about Nintendo rereleasing games at full price... it's not as if they hadn't done that for a while on the Switch. Admitedly, this sort of upgrade would be closer to Sony's rerelease of their bigger titles, which hasn't been all that smooth either.
@lulu1997master precisely my point, this would be akin to the last of us part II re-release, even if that title boasted more than just graphical upgrades.
Skyward sword hd was released 9 years after the og launched and twighlight took 10 years and was backwards compatible, so 8 years is pretty realistic for a 60 dollar remaster. I doubt it will be that expensive though, an nso bonus with remasters of other games sounds more likely.
100%. Nintendo needs to push units of the S2, not sell more copies of BOTW. Nintendo knows people want to play their game at a better resolution and if they offer this upgrade for free, they know millions of people will get the S2 regardless of the launch line-up
I think backwards compatibility is going to be a major thing for the Switch successor, with more stable framerates being a key feature of it. Since both systems share the same architecture, this shouldn't be all that difficult. Then on top of that, I can see them charging a little bit for 4k upgrades to titles, which might require a small additional download. Again, it should be relatively easy for them to do all this for many titles because the new system is just running an upgraded version of the same chip the Switch uses; it won't require any emulation. DLSS will allow for 4k from native 1080p or 1440p very easily.
Yeah I think at absolute minimum we can expect stable 1080p60 fps for all first party games, and they could almost certainly go quite a bit higher. Heck they could do quite a few other enhancements if they were willing to put in a bit of extra effort (at the very least enhanced textures would be easy since they should still have the source textures for all first party games)
Nintendo needs to get up to Series S levels in terms of graphics for the next Switch, anything less would be pointless. DLSS is what will allow them to get there. That and having 4GB more RAM than the S (if those rumors are right). Sure, Digital Foundry may complain about it not being native resolution, but most people will not care, just as long as it's getting AAA 3rd party titles that look good enough.
@@sundhaug92 The current Switch has a chip from 2015, so this will be a true generational improvement. Video Games Chronicle reported that Nintendo was showing off the Matrix Awakens UE5 tech demo as a benchmark for the new Switch, and that was originally made to showcase the PS5 and Series X. If that's true, then it means it will be able to play the same 3rd party titles the other consoles get without needing huge graphical sacrifices. That's a pretty big deal and I bet lots of people would be more than happy with that kind of an upgrade. Makes more sense than the PS5 Pro, looking a little cleaner and sharper for $700.
Just botw on a most powerful system is fine. Minimum loading times and stable fps is what I would like. Maybe loading further objects earlier, but that's it. I don't "need" a 4K version
The Switch was using old hardware even for the year it released in 2017. The PS5 pro remasters or whatever are super unnecessary, as all the do is remove performance mode and make fidelity mode run at 60 fps I think. Switch 2 BOTW could fix the korok village and make the whole game run faster
Honestly I'd prefer better looking breath of the wild to remastered ocorina I time. People love to love that game but I've never cared for it and I think it won't be a hit among new fans
As for the ToTK bit in particular, it's development had to have been quite a bit wacky. The pandemic basically shut down Nintendo for at the very least 6 months and it probably took at least another 6 them to get back to normal, and we know they had to take a year just to "polish" it (with polish almost certainly meaning that it needed a ton of optimization to run well on the Switch, we know the game was basically done). That and the game not having started development until 2018, makes me think that the next Zelda will not take quite as long to release
I see them offering a $10-$20 upgrade for those who owned it on switch, and a Remastered Edition native to the new switch for those just getting into the ecosystem.
I think a lot more people would care about the next console being able to play all Switch games at a higher or better frame rate rather than giving them 4k visuals. Especially if that updated frame rate came at no additional cost
The collective belief is that most Switch titles would be able to run at 4k60fps; if the Gamescom leaks of the Botw 4k tech demo for Switch 2, then using DLSS this would be the target.
I see the most likely possibility here is the game just getting an upgrade like many of the other ps4 to ps5 titles we have seen, where users who already owns the game can purchase the upgrade for a small fee. I don't see this being a full price rerelase. I can also see other well performing switch titles like Odyssey getting the same treatment
It’s too soon for a BotW remaster, especially given the Switch 2 has backwards compatibility. There are so many Zeldas they could remaster instead that many will otherwise never play. But the S2 enhancing the performance would be great. I agree that upgrades would likely be tied to NSO and hopefully that means no extra or a nominal fee.
Third video I see of this channel without knowing, this is quality content and I love it, 14k subs doesn’t even remotely make justice to this great channel, seriously, thank you for your videos new sub and keep it up man. This is great when I crave for a little bit of explanation for upcoming Nintendo projects.
If we get a Zelda on the Switch successor's launch year, I predict an OoT remaster like Metroid Prime 1 was; with updated models, textures, and lighting but nothing drastic like Capcom remakes. It will be the "Demon Souls remake" of the Switch successor. In the best-case scenario, they throw an extra short campaign like Bowser's Fury, but I don't think it's likely.
My hope is that Nintendo does an upgrade program for games similar to xbox. Maybe they can drip feed enhancement patches and showcase them just like NSO titles in directs that way it gives a game like a little mini boost in sales. It could come in handy when building hype too say Xenoblade 4 gets revealed then they show the past 3 games will be enhanced for switch 2. I think that this route also builds goodwill among the fan base so that they don’t get all the heat that Sony had for 10 dollar upgrade patches. But maybe Nintendo will say screw all that and rerelease deluxe versions for full price.
This is 100% happening imo. They've been selling Wii U Remasters for full price this gen so it won't phase them to resell it especially if it's the sort of generational leap visually that I'm expecting it to be. It will have better textures, lighting, shadows, foliage, ray tracing at 1440p-4k/60fps and give the Zelda team some experience working with such powerful hardware in comparison to Switch much like Wind Waker HD. BotW (and later TotK) are well worthy of a rerelease.
i feel like it's way too soon for this game to get any sort of remaster. they need to wait 8 more years. Everyone already played this game and it already looks good but the nostalgia isnt there and neither is the hardware to make it feel better.
Hardware isn’t there to make it feel better? If the switch 2 is as strong as rumors have been saying it’d double the fps at 1080p bare minimum and have 0 loading times. It’d feel much better lol.
@ yes but what precedent is there for nintendo rereleasing a game just for improved performance over the last console. every system has been more powerful than the last yet we've not seen this move done.
@ it was literally done with twilight princess lol.. it was also just done for skyward sword.. Zelda of all games is the most likely to get a port for a game just for increased performance lmao
@@ghudbob8613 those games are literally an entire 10 years apart from original release to remaster. BotW by comparison is much recent. Theres no precedent for remastering within a decade.
@@RiqMoran by the time the switch comes out it'll be 8 years old, and both of those games were released within a year of its 10 year mark. They remake on the decade mark almost. 2026 i can easily see them remaking botw, and not the "8 more years" you're saying.
I wouldn’t mind if they basically smashed together botw and totk into a single game and did something to make the menu/controls more improved. Like a deluxe/dual edition with all the abilities or something like that.
Many people are rightfully pointing out that this is something that Microsoft and Sony do, not necessarily Nintendo, and that's absolutely true. However, I would like to point out that you don't even need to look beyond Nintendo to tell you why this would be an ill-advised move. Remember "Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey"?One could argue that there were a variety of factors in determining the success (or lack thereof) of that particular remake, but I think it's hard to deny that a big anti-selling point was that you could just as easily play the original game on the same hardware. With the recent confirmation that the Switch's successor is backwards-compatible, I find it hard to believe Nintendo learned no lessons from what happened six years ago.
judging by how the confirmation of backwards compatibility was worded, i wouldn't be surprised if games like BotW would get free (or maybe paid) optional updates for switch 2 that would upgrade the graphics/framerate/ect (assuming the hardware doesn't provide any of these upgrades by default)
Quick question: I'm told that the sales numbers for Nintendo games are only physical sales? I.e. they do not count digital sales? Also: the case you make for BOTW 4k and OOT 4k are compelling. They will be awesome (and traditional Zelda lovers: If OOT 4K doesn't sell very well, I think traditional Zelda is done as a major line of effort at Nintendo.)
The numbers in their own company reports do include digital sales as far as I know, it's the reporting of digital sales to sales tracking companies (like Famitsu in Japan and GfK elsewhere) that Nintendo doesn't do. It's why you see the asterisk next to Nintendo's entries on the monthly NPD charts, because they can only track sales numbers from physical retailers who do share their numbers with them. I can't imagine why Nintendo don't share digital sales numbers with these companies given they do confirm total sales numbers publicly in their quarterly reports, but it's their data and they can be as secretive with it as they like, I suppose 🤷🏼😅
Rumors like these simply come from Sony's and Microsoft's lack of games and the incessant need for them to remaster their past successes and make easy money. Now pass those through over enthusiatic UA-camrs who are hungry for new compelling content. Of course, it didnt help that Nintendo did make LOZ remasters before.
I feel like this would make more sense as a 2027 release since they like doing 3D Zelda remasters on their 10-year-anniversary years. This would also only be 2 years into the new console’s lifespan so it could be considered “early”(-ish)
I actually would love this to be a thing, would give me a reason to play Botw again, but this is definitely just a tech demo it’s the kinda of thing Nintendo would use as a tech demo
I can see them assigning the upgrade fee to the expansion pass DLC. So you either: - Bought the game + DLC so you get the improved version for free. - Bought the game but skipped the DLC, so you pay $20 to get that extra content + the Switch 2 upgrade. - You're a new player and you have everything included in a $70 bundle.
Even a beautiful remaster wouldn’t convince me All we need is a performance patch. It would make sense if they bundle the DLC in a switch 2 version but I don’t expect a significant remaster
It probably will have some version of DLSS, so the image of the games will be sharp, probably the equivalent to 1440p at best. But no, there is no chance it will run anything at 4K natively, this is still not much more powerful than a PS4, so lower you expectation kids.
Nobody's saying 4k native. DLSS would allow them to take 1080p or 1440p native to 4K. The original hits 900p most of the time on the old Switch hardware.
@@ThisSteveGuyEven with dlss, upscale for something similar to 4K is quite heavy for the switch 2 specs, it will basically be a little more Sharp than 1080p, like if the game was at 1440p, but that's like the best case scenario. We have to remember that this is still a very humble console, so no, no 4K.
@@Luizanimado You're underestimating what NVIDIA can do with the latest version of DLSS. Look, Nintendo wouldn't bother putting out a new console which couldn't at least match the Series S, allowing for third parties to release AAA titles on it. There would be no point in doing any less. DLSS Performance mode uses 720p native to reach 4k, and the new Switch should be able to pull that off at the very least. Maybe Digital Foundry will complain about how the pixels look up close, but most people won't care. Remember, this is in docked mode, so it doesn't matter how much power it uses, although DLSS is pretty efficient and it will help with battery life as well. The Switch's Tegra X1 will be ten years old when the new Switch comes out; this will be a legit generational upgrade.
@@ThisSteveGuy I mean, I know most people won't care, but that's not really the point is it? The thing is, dlss doesn't really do miracle, and it also need a lot of power to run, it will definitely be a more sharp image, but it won't be the same quality as 4K.
@Luizanimado Like I said, there would be no point in releasing a console that doesn't at least get them to Series S levels, since that's the current baseline. DLSS allows them to do just that, albeit with a slight dip in quality.
Calling BotW sales vs two lower-demand remakes/ports and saying that trad Zelda was "Found wanting" would be a completely insane take if that's actually what Nintendo did.
Highly doubt a seperate remaster of a game already playable on the next hardware is going to happen. A reprint of copies including the DLC and pre-patched with a Switch 2 performance boost to prolong shelf presence maybe, but not some wholesale rerelease or stupid upgrade fee. Sony and MS do that stuff cause they literally have no first party software releasing to make money from for long periods of time. I feel like the Switch 2 will do just fine with exclusives comparitively
I think, from a business perspective, it’s best if they don’t remaster the game. I don’t think a lot of people would buy the switch 2 if a newish game is remade. As a customer and long time Nintendo fan, I’m expecting to be able to play most ofthe switch games I own, specially first party titles with better frame rate and increased resolution for free, or a small fee. I wouldn’t spend 60 dollars (or70) in games I’ve played in the last 5 years
5% chance. There is no precedent for Nintendo doing this. When they make a new platform they make new games for it, not HD remasters of games that were on the previous platform. and, we have back compat.
I think an upscaled BOTW has to be used to sell the new console - it's just better on the new console. Let's be real, Tears of the Kingdom is the game that needs that extra power
what if we get the mario 3d world + bowser's fury situation? where we get a port of botw combined with a brand new campaign that make a bridge between the former and totk
Super Mario Wonder is still behind NSWB Deluxe .. is Wonder a redheaded step child? I dont know maybe Botw gets some much attention from Nintendo because it's started their upward projection.
I mean hell I just picked up a used copy of breath of the wild after I’ve had my switch for years and years and I’ve been hooked. It is THE game on Nintendo switch
No reason to re-release BotW when the Switch 2 is hardware compatible with the Switch and could get better performance out of the existing Switch release. Focus on getting good Ocarina, Majora, Windwaker, and Twilight Princess remasters on the Switch/Switch 2 ecosystem. Please don't turn BotW into Skyrim or GTA5.
Didn't a bunch of big wigs had a closed-room showcase of the Switch 2 capabilities in Gamescom 2023 and BOTW running 4k was one of Nintendo examples? (also the Matrix tech demo)
Oh, if a relatively cheap update for BOTW is at launch alongside a new 3D Mario, that might be the most lucrative console launch ever for Nintendo. I don’t think they would cannibalize each other so long as it’s advertised not as a “new” game, but as a tech demo for the new system.
Its one of my all time favourite games but some sort of upgrade version sounds sooooo pointless to me and i would have zero interest in even a free upgrade..😅 I did 400+ hours in that game..im good. What a stupid idea 😂

If anything this would undermine the difference between switch 1 and 2. I doubt many consumers could tell a real difference.
I think an upscaled BOTW has to be used to sell the new console - it's just better on the new console. Let's be real, Tears of the Kingdom is the game that needs that extra power
I don’t think so. I think Nintendo modeled it in 4K and will use that model to remake Ocarina of Time. We had 7 years to replay BOTW.
what if we get the mario 3d world + bowser's fury situation? where we get a port of botw combined with a brand new campaign that make a bridge between the former and totk
I think nintendo would make a 4k remaster just to show the new hardware's capabilities
Super Mario Wonder is still behind NSWB Deluxe
.. is Wonder a redheaded step child? I dont know maybe Botw gets some much attention from Nintendo because it's started their upward projection.
Nintendo: it will be $70 bucks! Thanks.
While I’m sure we’d get a BOTW Remaster, I’d very much prefer we get an Ocarina of Time Remake on launch.
We know an upgraded version of botw exists. The question is if it is just a tech demo or an actual release.
If nintendo was smart, they wouldn’t remaster botw, especially when TotK is just an enhanced version
Didn't a bunch of big wigs had a closed-room showcase of the Switch 2 capabilities in Gamescom 2023 and BOTW running 4k was one of Nintendo examples? (also the Matrix tech demo)
NF do you think there's any chance that they would also expand breath of the wild who do you think this would send play biographics upgrade
I for one am ready for a remaster of the greatest game of all time.
Oh, if a relatively cheap update for BOTW is at launch alongside a new 3D Mario, that might be the most lucrative console launch ever for Nintendo. I don’t think they would cannibalize each other so long as it’s advertised not as a “new” game, but as a tech demo for the new system.
Its one of my all time favourite games but some sort of upgrade version sounds sooooo pointless to me and i would have zero interest in even a free upgrade..😅
I did 400+ hours in that game..im good.
What a stupid idea 😂
and they still wouldn't fix the rain.
Am I revealing too much when I admit that I would absolutely buy BOTW again on the Switch successor?
I don't want a game where I can pull a rubix cube apart, put it back together, and say I solved it. I just want to solve the rubrix cube.
Ocarina of Time REMAKE at switch successor launch
ok but you cant remaster botw and totk without age of calamity....
If they remaster _The_ _Legend_ _of_ _Zelda:_ _Breath_ _of_ _the_ _Wild,_ I am done with gaming
No, don't give me hope
Is this really necessary?
should be free or bundled with the switch 2
Yeah no
I have 0 interest in this.
Nintendo is committed to release 1 Zelda game per year. So yeah we will see 100% Botw Totk remasters.
Sounds redundant and pointless
LMAO. Are you for real? You see soon to be defunct Sony make a remaster of their recent game and you think Nintendo will make one too??? 😂😂😂 you crack me up bruv.
Exactly. Learn the lesson from Sony’s greed.
