Great vid, I'm actually considering that cairn bike myself amongst a couple of others to try and get back into cycling after a few years off and in a reasonably hilly area with plenty of bridleways and tracks to explore but a complete lack of fitness and the return journey will always be uphill,Nice to see the bike for real rather than the only reviews i can find being a from few years back,The thing that's probably swaying me towards it rather than any technical write ups and glossy ad talk is that wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!😀

Ha ha, I’m glad that will encourage you… it was kinda bonkers, but that was it on full power which wouldn’t last super long I don’t think, that being said, if an e bike gets you into cycling and on a bike, that’s a huge win, and gets a big thumbs up from me, even as a non e biker!

Great when it creates the balance but not when climbing in Mallorca and being passed by a German lady smoking. I think I’m bike fit ++ 😂

lol, yea that won’t have helped the morale at all 😂
They definitely are a great way to open cycling up to more people though!

Great wee video. I find that true cyclists aren’t bothered if someone is riding an e-bike the are just happy that someone is cycling.
I was quite resistant to having an e-bike and even though I have had ME for thirty five plus years and pulmonary sarcoidosis and only fifty perfent lung function for fifteen years I kept cycling analogue bikes till about five years ago and despite my conditions was pretty bike fit. I then got my E-bike and a coach but did all my training on a Kickr bike and that combined took me to a new level of being able to do century rides and get faster so I was really only using assist up hills. Yes some folk will use assist as much as possible but they can also be used as a training aid and you work harder but safer. It’s very much a game changer for folk that have had to have mechanical hearts like the guys in the Electric Cranks CC.
It’s a shame anyone saying it’s cheating as it makes many folk like myself who have cycled since being a kid for over sixty years feel a bit like impostors when we shouldn’t.
I was at a cycling event with a para cyclist and her verdict on a e-gravel hand cycle was it was a total game changer for folks with spinal injuries etc.
They are game changers and bring fun back to cycling for many and along with that physical and mental health benefits.
I now have two road bikes and a gravel bike that are electric and tomorrow I add a MTB that’s what I get for taking the analogue in for a service lol.
You can do anything with an e-bike that you can do with an analogue just with a bigger smile on your face🚴🏻‍♀️

That’s amazing to hear! Great to hear that an r bike has helped you, and the stories of the others you’ve met too!
I’m not bothered at all by e bikes, just using a slightly sneaky title and thumbnail to the video to hook people in 😂
Glad you enjoyed the video… keep cycling 😀

@SwampyDuckRidesAgain3636 a bit sneaky maybe, but it got some comments (some of which had to block 😬)

I'm 70 now cycled all my life, road, mtb and gravel. I still ride these bikes regularly but I have health issues one of which is arthritis in my knees. When I turned 70 I got an hardtail ebike. It seems to work like physio therapy mobilizing my joints but not putting them under to much strain. After a ride on the ebike I'm good to go on the normal bike. I can still get a hard workout on the ebike by staying in eco mode if I want to. Also living in a very hilly area I can still ride with the heart rate I set out to do, for instance a recovery ride.

This is the point I’m trying to make really, there’s a lot of unnecessary snobbery around e bikes, which I think is unwarranted - if it helps people cycle post injury, or gets people into cycling in the first place, then that’s great!

Love the video, I’ve just ordered the very same e-bike, awaiting delivery- so excited. I’m looking forward to Stephen’s review. Such a beautiful gravel trail.

Ahh brilliant! I’m excited for you! Enjoy the gravel trails, and your new bike, and don’t let anyone tell you is cheating, or that you’re not a real cyclist, or any of that nonsense! Just get out there and enjoy riding your bike with a smile on your face 👏🏻

Very happy with it so far, got a few adventures planned for it this year. Bought it early in the year so I can properly test it before I review it.

This is a simple equation for me. Would I go gravel biking on a normal bike when I’m actively training for a bit foot race. Nope, never.
E-bike turns an unproductive slog (for me) into a very productive and sociable recovery ride.
So it’s ironically making me a better runner and cyclist

Absolutely, but you were never on the fence about it at all, you’ve always been an advocate
