After your experience, I’m quite frightened to visit Mexico 🇲🇽
Totally understandable 🇲🇽 you have to be vigilant if you do go.
NOLA...unfortunately you encountered a corrupt official who was obviously an envious, jealous hater, who decided to "stick it to you", by taking your property for themselves. Just the fact that official advised you," you should have just kept driving through checkpoint", speaks to their lack of character. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Just because someone steals your property, doesn't make it their's, it makes it stolen, and they won't have good luck. Praying for you, that justice be restored, and YOUR property returned to it's rightful owner. This took alot out of you both; I can only imagine the pain, anxiety and trauma of this experience. 🙏 🙏

I believe that once you start doing a deep dive and research beyond your personal experience, you will have quite a valuable eBook to offer. You do not need a TIP to travel just in Baja, but if you are in mainland Mexico you will have to get one. You will need the Mexican Insurance though. There is also a letter on line at Baja-Bound Insurance that is in Spanish and English , and it explains to the police that you know the law, and you are not giving them any cash. I used my letter twice on my recent trip to Baja, and as soon as I produced it, the cops let me go. Safe Journey, and I hope you get your van back soon!
