I got a Cort version of a Spectra Sonic with TVJ classic and classic plus pu's in it. My first filtertron experience. I had the same reaction.. where have these been all my life! ?
Brian I really appreciate You taking time to do this. I've had 3 guitars built with the powertron and powertron plus, since trying the pups at winter NAMM. Now I will be changing out some P90s and full size HBs for TV jone pups. They are really great folks and so are You thanks again.
Decided to risk this upgrade and it is a step closer to the tone in my head for the ultimate dual humbucker sound. More clarity and articulation to my ear than the usual humbucker tone. Love it! 🤘🏼
Been using TV’s Super’trons for years now. They are a hidden gem. I do Punk, Electronic & Generally heavier styles of guitar playing. If you’re a single coil player looking for a versatile pickup but don’t love Gibson style humbuckers, these might just suit you. Clear, smooth, bell like on the high strings, ballsy at the bottom, without that “Humbucker” over pronounced sound on the edges. Being a Filtertrons variant, they too often get categorized in that genre of pickups & overlooked, push them into an amp! Put them into an early 8o’s Distortion+! They’ll change the way you think about guitar. Thanks for the video! I may someday do the same with my Les Paul.
@@meroinheroin I don't think you'll be dissapointed. It's just a filtertron with less separation between strings. A sparkly smooth sound that can be driven to a sweet place, if needed.
to tell you the truth just about all TV pups I've tried are outta the park. Their Starwood PAFs are amazing and their filtertrons are the top of the heap. I love their powertrons and magnatrons for my gretschs. perfection. nothing like a dirty filtertron.
Had the supertrons in a custom Gretsch Astrojet in the 60's - AMAZING sound ... getting ready to redo my 80'd PF200 and am going to use the TV Jones supertrons in it
It is kind of a hassle trying to find a way to upgrade you Gibson les paul guitar tone since they're such a dark sounding guitar not all but some , those TV Jones seem to be a good combination.
I think the Supertron is the absolute king of bridge pickups. I actually have the neck model in my bridge position for a slightly lighter wind. It's like a fat Tele without the hum.
I’m not sorry that I love my three Les Pauls! But this is a great combination with this guitar, and these pick ups. He has a sound all his own? Very dynamic combination with a punch added to it. The best way my ears listen to this combination is the very best of both of these iconic past, and future of the sound achieved. I know my opinion only matters to me, but that’s what makes Rock N Roll so great. To close, I would love to hear this live at both spectrums, easy to the ruff edged stuff from Southern Rock, combined with a little Rush? Man that should complete the total catalog needed to see the one guitar will do it all? Thanks and God Bless.
A search for filtretons brought me here. I'm glad I found out about these pickups, and the guitar player isn't too shabby either! Great tones all around. And what amp is that?!?!
Brian, since time has gone by do you still love these pickups? Even though this may have been a paid gig, I was about to pull the trigger on these myself and looking for some reassurance.
Would these pickups be more geared toward a heavy overdriven/metal sound or would they work well for more of a transparent overdrive "cleaner" sound? I'm deciding between these and the magnatrons to put on my Gretsch Double Jet...just not sure yet
Brett Barnes I use them in all genres. For metal, I prefer a full mid sound to a scooped sound. In the real world, that’s how you get heard in a band mix. So for me.... these are fine for metal because they still sound great when I’m playing cleaner. Most “metal” pickups I’ve played only sounded good to me when compressed to death and were lifeless in leaner than high gain settings. To each their own, also.... these pickups are not as forgiving as say an active EMG. They force you to play well, and they reward you when you do.
Yes, TV Jones makes a soapbar version of these (as well as soapbar versions of his classics and powertrons) and they sound fantastic. Put them in a semi-hollowbody I have. TV's website has sound samples by Chris Caselo, clean and dirty.
Why so much judgment here. This guy is a reat player and probably a great person. So hes more conerned about what makes him happy amd not what people think he should do with his time on earth. Maybe hes on to something. On top of that, that probably isnt his house. They may have just used it to shoot the video. Jeez
How do you know the house isn't being rehabbed? When his house is finished and tidied up, we'll still be bad at guitar. I'm guessing you are - I sure am. I needed commenters to point out that there was a mess, because I missed it listening to the guitar playing.
It amazes me how much variety in tone we can get from some magnets and 42guage wire.
Love it. I don't always listen to guitar outside, but when I do, so do my neighbors.... thumbs up dude

It's a great feeling, innit? I got an old Ibanez Talman with SD Psyclones, which are Duncan's Filtertrons, and I had the same response.

Perfect blend between a humbucker and a single coil. They have a nice bite to the articulation.

I've been seriously considering adding one to the bridge of my Jazzmaster. 🤔 I play mostly punk and post punk though.

You commenters are beyond ridiculous. Who gives a crap what his yard or house looks like. Listen to those pickups. That's what this is all about.
Geof Evans the funny thing is... it’s not even my house. We just scouted some funky locations and loved the look of this one. Keyboard warriors.... 🙄
I just said that the location was probably just for the video. People need to get a grip.
The Brian Cameron I really appreciate the review. The pickups sound great with your playing.
@@whatyoumakeofit6635 Tone out the ASS!! Sounds great man
The miking is great, you get to hear how it sounds!! Most important!
Thank you Mr. Cameron for an awesome demonstration of these KILLER TV Jones PUs. Just loved that tone.
I got the Brian's setsel on my tele and OMG!!!
I am just now starting to appreciate their tonality with some high gain!
These sound awesome. Loved the video also. Great playing!!
They sound awesome in that LP. I wonder how they'd sound in a semi-hollow.
Thanks Brian for the awesome review. Now I know witch pickups I need to get for my guitar. I hope you come up with more.
Cool tones & sounds from that combination of Les Paul & TV Jones. Great playing too 🤘🏻
WOW, sounds amazing. Just ordered a pair for my Gretsch.
All he needs is a Bigsby and he will have a Gretsch !

At 3:55, is that pickup rocking around loose?
After 7 years, are you still cranking with the Supertrons in your LP Classic regularly?
That's how it was when I plugged in my duo jet. Just magic
Are the Supertrons still in your Axe? 💚🎸
Love to my ears

Damn!!!! nice Video! sounds pretty awesome! the bridge PU definitely smokes!..... badass playing, really liked it! rock on
@ 4.07 - what pedal are you using to push the pickups. This is truly a great combination sound - many thanks for the video.
Great tone !
Genius
Brian come by and see us at Atlanta Vintage Gutiars ....what kind of amp is that you are using ??? ...
Yer f'n cool bro. Thanks for existing. Nice review. Dig them pants. Keep shereddin.
I'm putting one in my Jackson dk2m neck.
Yes, I dig them.... !!! 🤝🏼🤙🏽🎸👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Brian, after some time, what are your feelings on these pickups now? Are they still the same, better or have you moved on? TIA
adding supertrons to my les paul now

That is a sweet sounding & looking fucking guitar!

They didn’t make too many of the red standards ,,pups sound very biting lots of serious vibe! 👍

Could you play Breaking The Law before the police show up?
What will they think of next, a termite bait back drop lol

Forget about the guitar, let's talk about those pants!

I guess these guys finally just gave up and threw in the towel !☝️ Reluctant Saints WAS one bad ass band!!☝️☝️☝️

Sounds good, but you need to clean up that damn mess! Play the guitar when you're done...
