  • Hello, my name is Artur Sokolov.
▪️ Today I would like to share with you an analysis of the incident that occurred on March 26 of this year, when the container ship DALI collided with the Baltimore Key Bridge, which led to the fall of the bridge.
▪️ This event raised many questions, because the ship passed all the necessary checks, and the weather conditions were favorable. However, a few minutes before the collision, a blackout occurred on board and the ship began to veer off the course.
▪️ Let's discuss if it was possible to stop the ship before the bridge, based on current conditions, or were there other ways to avoid the tragedy?
🎥 Watch the video where I analyze this accident in detail: we will understand it with the help of visual drawings, based on the maneuvering characteristics of the vessel.
⚓️ This video was created for educational purposes only to once again emphasize the importance of in-depth knowledge of the ships handling. Indeed, in critical situations, one wrong command can lead to irreparable consequences, and there will be no time to correct the mistake.
🚢 I invite everyone who wants to understand how a ship will behave in different situations, and why exactly this way, to read my course «Ships Handling Course».

Thank you so much for such an educational video.
According to the open sources, this vessel fitted with one bow thruster, which, in my opinion, hypothetically, would help a lot to compensate swinging to STBD.
The vessel has 4 Aux engines and 3 of them needed in parallel to run bow thruster.
Maybe, there was a chance, to start the thruster at the moment when swinging to STBD was noticed.
Again, we don't know technical situation and conditions in the engine room, if that was possible after the power was restored.

      Good morning,
The vessel had headway (around 6-7 knots). The use of bow thruster under such circumstances is useless. I explain why in my course "Practical Shipshandling" in details: educationmarine.com/courses/ships-handling/
