+Sophiestelle Generally I agree. But my favorite aria for coloratura soprano "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" is not that well sung by Hallstein. There I prefer Roberta Peters. Her (Johann) Strauss (Sohn) Waltzes and Czardas ("Klänge der Heimat" from "Die Fledermaus") are so light and sparkling as Strauss should be sung! :D
Where would you rank Luisa Tetrazzini, Amelita Galli-Curci, Erna Sack, Lily Pons, Mado Robin, Rita Streich, Joan Sutherland, Beverly Sills, Mady Mesple, Anna Moffo, Cristina Deutekom, Edda Moser, Edita Gruberova, Luciana Serra, Mariella Devia, June Anderson, Ruth Ann Swenson, Sumi Jo, Natalie Dessay, Diana Damrau?
@@lissandrafreljord7913 Indeed a magnificent list of coloratura sopranos! I might just add to the very beginning an Adelina Patti. Guess everyone of them had their own merits, and they also had varying repertoires. Thus we have all this richness. Still, Hallstein is definitely a glamorous part of this illustrious list.
Merci Lohengrin O ! Quel bonheur !
+Orlando Sartor I posted this clip for the first time in UA-cam (yes Im the person who brought Ingeborg Hallstein in UA-cam although I despise coloraturas) approximately 10 years ago for the first time.. ever since my account (as will probably this current one) has been erased more than 5 times.. each time I post this same clip and it always achieves views :D She is Uncanny in her ability to sing coloratura.. the greatest sample of her Art lies in Coloraturafan's page and it is this one: ua-cam.com/video/Hk7RDTZGxtM/v-deo.html and indeed she is like a Crystal :D plus her Variations hold an Uncanny musical value..
For me. The unaccompanied beginning will always make or break this for anyone singing this. If I’m not entranced I turn it off. It’s absolute murder on the singer but so important in setting the stage. Of course this was enthralling.... diminuendo on E6....
this was posted by me more than 10 years ago in my first youtube account and it was the first ever post of Ingeborg Hallstein in youtube :D It started a Hallstein storm :D
Ingeborg beautiful....& very different. Callas however....IS a Hindu Girl, singing under duress in a marketplace...surrounded by curious onlookers.....
this clip was sent inside my email 15 years ago by an opera lover... he said: You like top notes, check Ingeborg... I heard it once... said: Too thin voice, dont like her... but the singing was so sweet I went again to listen to it... a few years later I was in love with her... I made this little video with her photos and posted for the first time 10+ years ago in youtube in my first account (this is my 4th, all the rest deleted)... it was the first post of Ingeborg Hallstein in youtube which caused a resurrection of her recordings... today we all search for more!!!
I am sure you would have read same...but I just clicked over to BBC Classical Magazine..... List of the 20 Greatest Sopranos of All Time. Callas #1...,& the comments EXACTLY what I meant! Some interesting choices.....I was gladdened to see Lucia Popp...but WHERE were Jessye Norman & Lotte Lehmann...?......
Not really much differens of that back when this was recorded (With what those terms mean today). It is definitely recorded like this for an album, otherwise they wouldn't get this quality. But this is one take, with an orchestra present in one hall. Just no audience and littered with microphones instead.
@@JamesVincentBGalan Actually Mady Mesple was the definitive Lakme! All who sing it have her standard to equal. That said, Ingeborg was in a class by herself!

You could tune an instrument using her voice. It's absolutely flabbergasting how tonaly accurate she was.

an impeccable coloratura, with such a beautiful, soft voice! I love her!
Her Queen of the Night aria is out of this world...
PURE TECHNIQUE AND MUSICALITY. Queen.
The finest Coloratura of them all!
Every time i listen to this fabulous woman i cannot hold my tears of joy and deep emotions. Pure talent met hardest work and self development!
She is the best coloratura of all the times!
+Sophiestelle I tend to believe that as well

@@aflethgsb Don't forget Callas' perfect fioriture!
She is the best technic that I know. Amazing power and levezza at the same time. Delivious to listen to this Lakme. Thank you
One of the most beautiful renditions of this aria.
Thank you.
I played the opening cadenza for a friend who sings this (beautifully, I might add) and she just said "I give up!"
unnaturally impossible cadenza and sung so effortlessly
Possibly the most beautiful voice of all time.
Unglaublich diese Sängerin Ingeborg Hallstein und grandios.
Amazing, amazing, amazing voice - fantastic
Wow! 2:12. Never heard that variation before and I can't get over it!
Perfection.

Brawississimo ! Wunderschone , nette und perfecte interpretation!
Thanks for the video. It's amazing, when she does one of these famous arias it's always the best despite all the competition.
this was the very first Hallstein video in youtube when I first posted it 10 years ago in my first deleted account
I'm glad you persisted.

WoW Ingeborg
0:52 😍
The second part is so slow! Lovely voice though.
Also check out Mady Mesplé- truly wonderful and in French!
Et mado Robin 💓💓
I wish this would be sung in french, according to the original libretto

this was very pretty! but my favorite is joan sutherland big voice booming across the melismas *runs for cover*
Very nice, but Lily Pons owned this one!
1079walter Natalie Dessay wiped out Lily Pons on this aria. She reign and own this title role in all time this is so incomparable.

You think Dessay with her squeezed constriction can even compare with coloraturas of the past???
what are you saying buy yourself a good pair of years!
