- On the heels of Ken Blocks insane Gymkhana videos and the groundbreaking snowboarding/rally part to close out DCs MTN.LAB 1.5 video, the DC Co-Founder and Rally Team Driver has joined with Subaru to make the worlds fastest cat track operation automobile for backcountry access for snowboarding. Dubbed the TRAX STI, this is a new teaser video from the test session for the highly-modified, snow-ready (to say the least) car.

Fuck i can’t believe he’s gone… i remember gymkhana 1, i was about 17 without my driving licence and i thought to myself this is amazing… and me and my friends watched all his videos and loved them all, i can also add that he probably me a hoonigan in the streets when i passed my driving licence haha… so to you mr.Ken Block i salute you for making my youth awesome and you will be missed but always in our hearts.❤
All these big youtubers are putting tracks on everything right now in early 2021/late 2020, and then I find out DC SHOES put tracks on a hatchback STi in 2009, and I just now discovered it?! 😂

I'll never forget when I first watched this video in 2009 and discovered all the awesome stuff Ken did in an STI. He's the main reason I got into Subaru and bought a WRX hatch in 2013 as my first car. RIP Ken, you made an impact on so many people like me

Gavin Whiteley everyone else seems to have great Subarus.. My forester is worthless.. Mine got stuck on wet grass and the tires were like 2 weeks old.. I also tried going up a small small muddy incline and got stuck.. Driving thru snow is worse than driving my old Honda civic or my old Ford Ranger.. Gas mileage is shit and the car rattles everywhere. I must have got a bad apple Subaru or something

If you need a snow-groomer or a tracker you have to buy a snow cat. if you want to have fun on icy tracks or simply need to move when snowing it's very much cheaper to buy 4 winter tires with studs: you can install quickly, you can use on normal road or partially covered by snow ...

Ken used to be a Subaru driver. Right until the FIA decided to move the WRC to compacts like Ford Fiesta and similar.
+Andreas Kist it would be interesting to see if Subaru decides to make a compact or the wrc. The first gen impreza used to be a lot smaller so maybe they go that route again

I wonder how much gear reduction was needed. Most 4x4 truck with H/L range need to be in L to have enough torque to turn the trax. So, curious if they just changed the final ratio or redid the entire gear box.

I couldn't tell. It doesn't snow in my country, and all I know from countries like Russia, north of United States, Canada, etc.. comes from TV news, movies, etc.. And I see a lot of traffic problems in snowing seasons and I've never seen this solution before.
In my guess, people are still using chains there.

I know of two versions one by Bunny Sigler and one by Timebox it seems to of been slowed down and and then looped ,, it dates back to 1966 on London records By Bunny sigler, and coverd by TimeBox in 1968 both versions are good ..

although Really cool, awesome, would not be my first choice for world's fastest snow cat project. I would look to what REALLY fast dune buggies/ sand rails are running (supercharged/NA V-8?). plenty of torque for uphill powder... Are the small tracks the weak point?

That Subaru would do almost as good with just tires on. I wanna see this thing in deep snow. That snow was only maybe 8 inches deep.

yeah, it doesn't snow enough in most places to really need the tracks, and usually the stuff you see on the news is just an isolated "freak" snow storm. that, and chains are MUCH cheaper than these tracks not to mention the majority of people would need to take their car and the tracks to a mechanic to have them bolted on. in places where deep snow is the norm - yes great tool. else where, simply just not feasible.

even though they are his friend, and the fact that he is the co founder of dc it's self. and that he help the game with dc, really he would still be in this position if they did sponsor medium people, because people would still buy dc gear and even though travis has his own range, ken would still be racking it in and he is still able to do what he loves, and being one of the most watched people on youtube, thats not a bad pay check

It looks like nobody here knew they just sell cat tracks like these. Problem with them is that they are horribly expensive to buy, increase drive train resistance, and generally slow a vehicle down if you aren't in something like snow or mud in comparison to a normal tire.
