I saw him perform this amazing song two nights ago on a guitar-shaped instrument that was either a bouzouki or a mandola, and let me tell you, dear reader, that he moved everyone in that room with a spine-tingling performance.
Superb. Unstoppably interesting guitar performance, lovely singing. Will be purchasing soon, and cruising the imtfolk clips. Thanks. Any more suggestions anyone?
Just a guess, but it might be Nashville tuned - the four lowest-pitch strings (i.e. the E, A, D and G strings ) replaced with lighter gauge strings and then tuned an octave higher than normal.
@@ross311 I agree, Martyn's songs are still classics, and both guitarists are different, I just hadn't listened to Doyle before and I like his playing.
John and his guitar magic as usual

I must have listened to every version of this. Several times each.
Why do I always have tears in my eyes listening that ....?
He shreds like Buckethead, but doesn't use a bucket, only a tassel. Massive Irish talent on full display.
Every time I hear this it gets better. He's such an awesome musician.
Extroadinary!
This song is brilliant in every respect.
Simply Great....

Me too! It's called profundity!
Yep
It is CFCGCD I think.
It's a Type of C tuning. It's fairly savage.
I believe it's DADGAD tuning maybe with capo on fret1
what guitar is that? and how does he get that rhythmic high end sound?
It's his hat. It's magical. Coupled with lots of practice and instrumental genius.

The right tuning Is this: (from the top:D-C-G-C-F-C). It Is a kind of a six-strings-irish bouzouki.
he's almost always in Drop D tuning
bet he could eat that guitar while hes at it :v
REALLY NICE, better than John Martyn, IMO
