After a thrilling opening ODI in Paarl, both teams head 60 kilometers northeast as the action shifts to Cape Town. South Africa will face Pakistan in a do-or-die encounter at Newlands in the second ODI on Thursday (December 19).
The visitors won the series opener on the last ball of the match, chasing 240. South Africa had to make a late change to their playing XI after the toss as Keshav Maharaj suffered a groin injury. He was replaced by Andile Phehlukwayo.
The Proteas announced their Test squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan as well and Keshav Maharaj is part of it despite his injury concerns.
Maharaj has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series and Bjorn Fortuin has been named as his replacement.
David Miller, who missed the ODI series opener, is expected to feature in the second game. Captain Temba Bavuma too was rested for the first ODI as Aiden Markram was named the skipper.
In the last match, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton got the team off to a solid start.
Agha Salman was the surprise package as he picked up four wickets in his first four overs to push the Proteas on the back foot.
