  • In classic style, the US Army Old Guard passes in review. Included are the Continental Color Guard, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and a platoon of Army Soldiers in the Continental uniforms of the Revolutionary War. The Old Guard is also the 3rd Infantry Regiment.

    Never been issued a set of Dress Blues . Got a bunch of Jungle fatigues and Jungle boots though. Got piles of equipment and ammo at the Company hootch at LZ English when we came in from the Bush in the WIA and KIA pile. Weapons and gear all you need didnt need to see the supply Sargent no forms to sign yahoo just like Christmas . Never been in a peace time Army . Went to the 2/503 of the 173rd Abn got there in 69 when I was 17 left just before I turned 20 . Went to the 82nd 2/505 at Ft.Bragg a guy at the VA told me they changed the name of the Post . Hows all the guys gonna know where to go when they recover them if they dont know the name of the Post ?.... I love Parades I get to Salute the Flag when she goes by. Its just that you got to kill them more than they kill you and nobody won no gun fight parading around they tried that didnt they . Just ask the British when they withdrew out of Lexington and Concorde back to Boston in 1776 .......By the way all the fighting was done by Militia on that day...................no regulars

      Pablo Martinez Does Fort Myer still allow the public entry to watch these Reviews? I recall attending one in the late 1990's on the recommendation of one of my staff members. He told us the public was allowed on Thursdays (I think it was) so we attended. My absolute favorite are the Fife and Drums. :-)

    To the Company Commander and Platoon leaders who present arms with swords. The Sword hand DOES NOT MOVE WHILE MARCHING DURING THE SALUTE...the sword hand stays still it does not swing as in normal marching.

    • @davidwarner3326
      @davidwarner3326 4 роки тому

      While marching at present saber (sword), the right arm is swung naturally (nine inches to the front and six inches to the rear) in a vertical plane, flexing the wrist to keep the tip of the blade level (about six inches) above the marching surface. This requires extending the wrist on the forward movement and elevating the wrist on the rearward movement.

    • @johnpitchlynn9341
      @johnpitchlynn9341 4 роки тому

      @@davidwarner3326 Wrong and Wrong. The manual of the sword for the US Military clear the sword arm DOES NOT SWING during present arms WHILE MARCHING. Never has never will. Not only that but the Old Guard has propensity to violate 22-5 in other ways as well. Tomb sentries have of late gone to swinging the right leg out to make heal clicks louder during halts while marching their post. This is another specific example of violating 22-5. So not only are you wrong you're very wrong...and here is the proof. Pass in Review for President Obama...notice the Army officers don't swing the sword during present arms during passes in review...neither does anyone else.

      @@davidwarner3326 Here is another example. The only time that sword hand is moved during a pass in review is when the sword is brought down in salute or put back up on the shoulder. No other services moves the sword arm either and if they do they are wrong.

      If you really want your mind blown, watch video from Marine Barracks Washington and compare it to how manual is "supposed" to be done. Oh, you should also see the drum major of the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps salute with his left hand. Get a grip and realize that ceremonial units do things differently.

The one that was the father in law of Alpha Company's commander (CPT House), where he said during his comments that CPT House said to him the night before that "Dad...short is good"? @@martialmusic My first assignment after Infantry OSUT at Benning and Airborne School Nov 79- Mar 80 was 1st Bn 509th Infantry ABCT in Vicenza, Italy. We had a few parades during my time there from 80-82 in which we marched with bayonets fixed! I served in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1982-1984 prior to being assigned to the 3RD herd from 84-86 ! I served in A and B Companies while in the TOG! The Annual Division review held at Fort Bragg is with Bayonets fixed! 15,000 soldiers passing in review and most carrying their M16A2's with Fixed bayonets except for the M6o machine gunners who carried the MG with the sling over their shoulders. While in Alaska from 87-91 we marched with Bayonets fixed during ceremonies and pass in reviews ! I often wondered about that during parades on Summerall when the announcer would say TOG was the only unit authorized to march with bayonets fixed during Pass In Review and parades ! I guess the rest of the Army didn't get the memo ! LOL
