It's all round, not just in clothing people are feeling the pinch, they also focus on looking for black friday deals at this moment so this last weekend is always a bit odd if you don't indulge in BF.
My experience is that every now and then eBay throws its small sellers a bone by taking the spotlight off the big sellers and instead shinning it on them. What happens is the big sellers start saying their sales have tanked, start questioning if there is something wrong with the search engine etc, etc, etc, not knowing that small sellers are suddenly selling stuff left and right that have been on their shelves for years. This lasts about a week, and then the big sellers say they are killing it again, that the glitch must have been fixed, and the small sellers go back to being lucky to have a sale or two every month.
It's strange mate, I think most people are purely guessing when it comes to ebay algorithms and whatnot. No one really knows how ebay works behind the scenes. My sales here in Australia are very random too. Some weeks I'll sell a lot of higher priced items, then the next week I'll sell minimal of lower priced items, which is quite frustrating now that I'm doing it full time. I think it is mostly pure chance for the right buyers coming along. Sure, good listings, items and promoting will help, but you also need that right person to be there to click on your particular item. I think building inventory helps too, ie more items = more sales. Have you watched Bert's channel? He's also based in the UK and used to work for ebay. Very informative guy, you should check it out. Cheers, Chris.
@@TheResellerRollercoaster No problem, his channel name is "eBert. Tips and Tricks for eBay and online retail". "Justin Resells" is also good (he's based in the US).
Out of experience, if anything, used clothing slows down in q4. People buy presents, and used clothing is not necessarily something that people.buy as presents. I always had slow q4,.selling clothing only.
maybe cross list onto vinted and see what traction or difference you get there? I think as a business seller on ebay, i am losing out to the no fee sellers on ebay now. I have sold more items on vinted than ebay this week and i am just a new seller with around 30 items. I do have some toys listed, but they arent moving either.
Hi - I am also a part time. I tend to buy what I can - more often than not that is items that take up a fair bit of space or need a lot of packaging...could you give any advice on how to "stay in lane" in terms of sticking in a category e.g. clothing.. I end up becoming any everything seller as sourcing time is slim (full time job as well) and its hard to leave difficult items when there is money on the table..I'd like to move into clothing due to the simplicity of storing & shipping but other categories do so much better for me... Cheers!
Hi, new sub here. I'm a clothing reseller too, it has its ups and downs, i'm trying to get more into vintage clothing and accessories - I have a full time job too 🙂
thanks for subscribing to the channel, do you source differently for vintage items? or do you find what you need in the usual places like charity shops or carboot?
@TheResellerRollercoaster I source mainly from charity shops, I haven't been to a car boot in years!. I managed to buy over 1000 items of stock from a local vintage shop that closed down 😁
I sell anything and everything. My sales have gone down, mainly since the introduction of no fee's. Think they are giving priority to business sellers over private sellers. Some days I dont get any watchers at all on over 300 items. Other days I am flooded with watchers think something fishy is going on.
@@TheResellerRollercoaster on the idea of the algorithm I have one item on eBay its a print on demand 3d print thing. Got a sale very quickly after posting, and nothing since 3-4 months it's been up now. Maybe the one person that wanted one bought one, maybe but I feel like because it was new it got better ranking...
@@TheResellerRollercoaster I don't think 3% is enough (that said, I don't promote everything). But I worry that promoting turns into an arms race. you promote at 3, so i do 5, then its 10 and before we know it you need 20% just to get a look in. BTW like you I sell mostly clothes and it has been very slow.
@TheResellerRollercoaster I hear this argument a lot but unfortunately I think it's a little naive because it's all about affordability and in previous depressions we have lived through people starve and sadly die. When banks stop lending and job layoffs come people won't be interested in buying the non essentials. Even the essential items will be given up on so the idea that there will be currency around for second hand stuff I believe won't happen. I hope I'm wrong but history says that resellers are in big trouble going forward and I'm one too.
Hi, I'm an eBay clothing reseller, too, and my sale was very poor last weekend. But keep going, it will pick up.

so you don’t think the item comes into the equation? surely if i have a good item at a fair price it wouldn’t matter how big my store is?

how do you find the customer service on vinted? i’ve heard it’s not great, which is why i’ve not cross listed, might be something i try in 2025
Yeh it's pretty non existent, but the automation of the platform is quite slick, etc.

this is a very good question and deserves more than a comment, i will look at putting a video together to explain how it do it

How many active listings do you have
just under 800 as of today
People don’t by second hand clothes as presents do they??
buy
How many items are in your store now
just under 800
My turnover is down 50% compared to this time last year. I'm putting it down to a terrible economy, competition from no fees sellers and Vinted.
wow 😮 50% down is a crazy amount

yes some days it feels like my store is hidden as i get next to no sales then other days i get sales all day,
are you promoting your listings?
i promote everything at 3%
@@TheResellerRollercoaster i have been doing 10 per cent and think that has boosted my sales
@@garyballared2077 do you think that boosting the promotion rate would net more sales? or running a markdown sale for 10% off ?

the economy is fucked but its only going to sadly get much much worse in the next couple of years sadly.
do you think that the economy might drive more people to buy second hand items though?

I'm a jewellery seller on ebay
are you feeling the same pinch in the jewellery category as i do with clothing?
