+J Nichols yeah but how many people do you know that repaint the exterior of the case with the same color just to make it look better vs. the interior of the case where there are lets say different areas where you can use different technics, like, how to make the paint resistant to scratches from the side panel or hdd bay etc. and stuff like that.
For the people who want more details, when dry sanding you go from a low (200) grid to higher to smooth it out. Clean it off and then prime. For the wet sanding use a very high grid one since you're not trying to go through the paint layer
6 years too late to answer this but the purpose of sanding initially is to create a consistent tooth for the primer to adhere to. The goal isn't necessarily to knock down the paint to the bare metal underneath, only to create a surface appropriate for priming.
What if we like the color on our case already, but want to paint a design on top. Would you still advise to remove the original paint, put a new coat of the color I want and then finish it with my design? Or would I be safe applying my design on top of the original paint?

General Harambe to my undestanding the coat just protects the paint from scratching off. If you want a matte finish there are coats for that. //sorry I’m 3 years late but if you’re the same kind of procastinator as me you probs haven’t finished it yet haha
I recently did a bodge job for an old pc i wanted to practice on. and i can say i did everything from having the job facing down to not using primer. anyone got any idea how long that job will last before it starts to flake off? (give it to me straight doc)
@@OcDmn Hello, im so glad you asked. 3 coats lightly done with 3 hour intervals, the job was done with masking tape over painters tape, gave me pretty good results. the paint has degraded a little bit with bits coming off but that is honestly me being a idiot when moving it around. job worked well.
I see lots of shadows in your finish coat. You should have sanded after the first coat and resprayed another coat before the clear. You make this FAR more difficult than it is.

Well ofcourse you can buy custom cases but it's quite expensive, but you can also buy tons of premade cases so if you dont really wanna have a crazy design just go with a normal retail case.

I love how they forgot to film putting on the actual paint and had "fake" it.
Long story short someone in the building came out and demanded that we stop painting. So some creative solutions had to be done ;-)

he said add paper to not waste tape, why did he cover the paper with tape?
I covered the overlapping edges, but if you see all the brown paper, if that was taking off you have to replace it with tape

he showed use that he was going to use wax but then doesn't show us how to apply the wax then the final product clearly had wax on it.
Actually I did not apply any wax to the panel. That was just a few layers of the clear coat that gave it the shine.
and i learn nothing!
