Eddie: “I miss the Kiwi’s mate” 😂😂 instant like on this video 👌🏽
probably will not miss them as much if he loses the next match up, though I guess a world cup semi win will last a long time, til the next wc :( 3 more years guys.
Respect Eddie a lot and this coming from a Kiwi
From an AB fan, Eddie Jones is a legend. In regards of RWC's, he's dismantled us twice and helped win one in between all that. Respect.
You have to give king carlos no look pass credit for one of those, oh and putting leon at center......................................shit it was a waikato man who made that call.................
He's a good assistant coach. Won a rwc as assistant. Hasn't won a rwc as head coach. He's got one of the largest pools of players in the world in England yet hasn't managed to win. Hansen has won a rwc as assistant and as head coach.

That killed me Eddie 😆.

We need Australia to get their act together, as much as I love watching the AB's kick their butts I love a close game more.
I agree, having a weak Aussie team is not doing the AB's any good. ARU and the aussie public need to have some patience and give Rennie a chance. Its going to take a couple of years at least to turn the wallabies around.
In all fairness Australia do beat the All Black more than any other team.
I loved this. Such a fun and respectful chat and very interesting points of discussions from men that breath rugby.

As a Samoan that lives in the states. I feel New Zealand has the best of all worlds. Great youth Rugby, Great Coaching/knowledge of the game and Great talent from home and around the Pacific Nation's. Still love my Manu Samoa side though.
sadly they do not have the Northern Hemisphere $, new zealand that is. It was looking hopeful for the manu in the early 2010s in both 7s and 15s, but the wheels really fell off the bus over the last few years its really sad.

Real rugby talk!! Love it!!$
Love that man and his humour,he's done amazing things for the game,he loves taking a shot at our team, wouldn't change that, man, can't wait for the season to start.
Great interview and panel, love the banter mixed in with some serious and insightful comments. As an Englishmen, much as I have enjoyed seeing the team develop and put in some great performances against the top teams, the issues he raised about the number of games played, particularly English rugby as well as the international calendar, makes for real challenges going forward. Club sides need their best players, the national team needs the best players, and the players need to have long enough careers to secure their futures.
Given the shortening of playing time Eddie highlighted, down to 35 mins per game and the subsequent increase in the power game the injuries and stress on player bodies has dramatically increased. Much as I love the physical aspect of the game, I think some way of matching up international calendars and making sure that players are in good condition for international games by any changes in the rules, perhaps such as stopping the clock on scrum sets, would really help.
I must say, I have never seen such a complete performance from England as against the ABs in that semi final, but can they do that consistently in the future, that will be the challenge!
👍.
I’ll read what you write, very balanced.
Fascinating comment as was Eddie's talking about bringing fatigue into the game. I remember watching rugby 20 years ago and then I stopped watching for about 10 years. One thing that shocked me now that I'm back into it is the sheer size of the players has increased massively. I got my answer as to why now. Fatigue is less of an issue. I have to say though, I do not mind the length of the games and I kind of like the 'freak show' of having massive players. I do however find myself thinking most people must be completely bored by all this stop start drawn out play.
@@uxpjsxu - yes the size of players does have the potential to impact the length of careers, as one physio put it some years ago, the rehab of modern players after a game is Ike dealing with someone who has been in a serious car accident! I still think the key factor though is sheer fatigue based on the competing demands of club and country to maximise the value of their assets. Courtney Lawes commented on it while in Australia, discussing the length of the season, and that the players were desperate for a rest!!
@@drchrisdavies2941 I love that comment about rehab being like dealing with a serious car accident. It's always interesting watching how emotional the players look during the anthems but I think part of it is that they truly are going into a real brutal battle arm in arm with their comrades. That comment hits home that point.
Also interesting Lawes comment. In American football the NFL has 8+ months off which is really frustrating as a fan but completely understandable. These players need time to heal their battered bodies. Having said that, hats off to Lawes and the lads that came down here to Oz. Despite being rather tired they put an a great show. I was at the first match in Perth and it was a great spectacle!
God dam I love this sport and the people in it.

I have HUGE respect for Eddie Jones. His track record speaks for itself : head coach for Australia, assistant coach for South Africa, and head coach for England. PLUS the number of Finals he has reached, albeit often on the losing side ( but in my book, that simply doesn't matter ) : 2003 ( loss ), 2007 ( won ), 2019 ( loss ). He even coached minnow Japan, who staged an upset against South Africa during the 2015 World Cup. Mr Versatility...
Love it!
Ha, Fiji, Samoa and Tonga..Love Eddie!

Exactly what I thought! Was just waiting for him to mention the fewer subs thing - couldn't handle the Bomb Squad lol!
@@nj-ns4sb what people don't realise is you can't pull off the tactics Rassie implemented if you don't have depth, like everyone was saying our bench were all starters.
@@HenryDube72 Yeah exactly, you can only do it when you've got a Frans Steyn type that covers the entire back line.
@@nj-ns4sb so glad someone else noticed that, he did not get enough credit for the role he played. If you look back at the world cup, Francois Steyn was the sub with the least amount of game time, Rassie was protecting him as he was a crucial player in the squad and tbe key for the 6-2 split bench
The Springboks' Bomb Squad! WHOA!!!
I remember (too painfully) the night the Boks lost to Japan. As they scored the winning try the camera focused on Eddie Jones. He was pleased, but not surprised....
The thing is, I could organise an international schedule in about 3 hours. BUT they will pay milions for a company to mess it up
Best conference that I've seen with Eddie Jones and I'm not a fan of his............good one!!
Some interesting points on speeding the game up and having ball in play for longer , would like to hear comments on this from the group
yeah good point. Its still suprising to hear how long the ball is actually out of play. No kick to goal from a scrum penalty. There may be some merit in that.
I agree about too many subs-happy to replace injured players but substitutes for tired players or strategic subs distorts the game. Don't want to see 14 players struggle against 15 but if the forwards get tired and slow down it opens up the game through natural attrition rate. How it would be judged is another matter
Definitely bring back more midweek games for touring sides, like the old days. Doesn’t have to be all about the big venues. Just as good an atmosphere, if not better, seeing big teams at smaller venues.
Especially when the ticket prices for those big games are so high. If you're taking a few kids it's ridiculous
Yep apparently every Irishman was at the Munster game when they beat the All Blacks😂.
Take the game to the smaller venues, give the game to every body then Rugby’s base will broaden.
Rugby needs more coverage like this globally, fun expert punditry like you see on here and in america with NBA, NFL etc appeals so much to fans and younger fans. Hopefully World Rugby can take some power back from the individual sporting bodies within countries and try to centralise and globalise the game! I'm worried Rugby outside of Britain&Ireland/France/NewZ/SA will die if it carries on the way it is going...

World Rugby should introduce more international for smaller countries to grow the game.
eddie you are best thing to happen to english rugby for years , dont listen to the tossers in the press , and keep up the good work mate. i hope you stay with us til 2027 mate
Eddie Jones is always worth listening to, lots of people don't like him but what do people want, someone who never says anything of interest or someone who has an opinion and genuinely loves the game, I'll take the latter thankyou.
Eddie is a master coach! I’m still bitter about England’s demolition of the All blacks at the World Cup! Why because they were that damn good! Again much respect from a kiwi to English rugby I was disappointed they couldn’t back it up in the final.
Lol it wasn't just because they were good though . But our selection was rubbish .. I guarantee if razor was the coach he would of made the hard decision's and droped players like . Read , Nepo , Crotty and bridge just to name a few .
Read did nothing against England but get smashed . Yet we left Akira behind , as we did with laumape and lamb . They would have made more impact against England . Not picking tuipuloto over retalick based on form , letting Nepo start after his performance after his defense against South Africa . Made the same mistake against England on the try line giving England momentum. Picking jordie Barret for who knows why. And when he comes on he gives the ball away when we really needed to hold it because he lacks experience . Not starting Dane Coles when he's more aggressive than Cody Taylor . Who wanted to go around England in stead of through .
South Africa won up front . We failed up front . I'm happy for England . But Hansen has never been a great coach .
But look how the all blacks trended when Wayne Smith left ? . They declined . And sadly I want to see the all blacks fail . Because I know in my heart the true coach should be Scott Robertson .
Lol sorry for the story book 😅😂
Eddie Jones, comedian, coach, all-round top bloke :)
In the early 2000s I thought the game should have a global comp of 3 divisions. I made my own tourn up when playing EA rugby on the playstation.
D1 is a 10 team comp or 6 nations and rugby championship. All teams play each other once. Semi & final. 10th place team is relegated to 2nd division.
D2 is 6 teams the PIs, Japan, Georgia and one other team. Top two play a final to move up into division 1. 6th team moves down into division 3.
D3 is whatever with a final to move up into the 2nd division.
Teams that lack funds to cope with the initial comp are aided by the IRB.
Bro not knocking you but NZ had that format but the bigger Unions with more money raped the smaller provincial unions.
Much RESPECT 👊🏽 EDDIE JONES THE MAN!
I agree with eddie. The game needs to speed up. and people complaining that it isnt how eng or sa play , go watch old games of 70's even sa forwards could handle a ball really wel and knew how to run ,would be nice to see that sort of rugby
Jaco. v. D The forwards of the 70s were ponderous
The speed and agility demonstrated by some forwards today is breathtaking
Bakeries, ptsd, etsebeth are a couple that spring to mind
It can't happen bro unless the game changes back to 96. Today the defense is League like. In 96 Cullen & Jonah ran wild cause it was a different game.

Total in agreement with Jones here .The professional game needs tweaking, needs that continuity and speed .
Especially in N America with a waiting huge contact sport MARKET , ripe for the picking ......
The "Scrum" is the biggest area that slows the game down watch the All Blacks V Barbarians 1977.. scrums take about 30seconds not 3 minutes like today
If the winner of the 6Nations played the winner of the RC every year it would be a huge draw
Yep alternate home ground per Hemisphere according to who's won their Tournaments.
I think they need nz an Aus to join 6 nations make it 8 nations 👍
@@mrslushydaminator4974 That would ruin what's great about 6N, imo. It's a geographically tight tournament and that adds a huge amount to it.

@@mrslushydaminator4974 nah then it would be a miniature world cup. Don't want that.
The ball in play stat is so small, completely agree with him that it needs to be more to be better entertainment
xD its the only time you get to rest XD alot of people forget how exhausting rugby is to play
The amount of time lost while refs and TMOs converse is ridiculous now. And refs lecturing the players. So often it is utterly meaningless rubbish, like "let's have some leadership skipper" or "talk to your boys" or "the scrums have been good, now let's not have....."
Also would like to see Southern Hemisphere Rugby team vs Northern Hemisphere Rugby team
We would spank the northerner’s 9 times out of 10.too much firepower down south.
Rugby is in a tough spot atm, especially with the illusion that world rugby depends on the six nations in order to keep the game afloat and with tradition etc. it's not easy to convince otherwise. A shake up has been needed for years and maybe going for a hemisphere style competition with each tier consisting of four teams and each team playing home and away maybe a better option and also with a total of 6 games, this is more than the current 5 within the 6 nations? Taking the current world rankings the top two tiers are the following: Tier 1: South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Japan Tier 2: Argentina, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa Northern Tier 1: England, Ireland, France, Wales Tier 2: Scotland, Georgia, Italy, USA etc. Keeping the hemispheres separate in this way also keeps the importance of the World Cup. Maybe as an end of season game these teams could be ranked from this comp and you could play the corresponding team in a one off game and in turn inform the masses which hemisphere is going better 🤔 Just a thought for Rugbys sake 🙏💪🏉
there has to be something done to change the effect of the scrum on the outcome of a game. I like Eddie's idea of a quick taps and not allowing goal kicks for scrum penalties. And only allowing 1 re-set. He's right that if there isn't enough ball in play time than guys will just focus on getting massive - there needs to be more fatigue in the game - and therefore more tries.
The only suggestion I like of Eddie's is stopping the clock at scrum resets.
Legend
Great interview.
Jk stuck in the past, as a kiwi eddie jones to me knows what hes talking about, the problem isnt the game going global, the problem is the game being boring also the live experience used to be better than the at home experience but with large high definition tvs and food n drink being cheaper and usually higher quality than at the grounds the whole thing isnt worth it.
It does not matter if they win or lose, the fans and the people, they only ask that they leave all the effort and passion on the field ...
Something All Blacks is missing is smiles, Jones explained it perfectly Coaches are the leaders of starting a positive environment. And as for the academy Fiji Samoa Tonga ahaha

The only way you can get respect from the Kiwi's is to beat them.

As an Englishmen I agree with Eddie the one and only team you get really excited to play is the great All blacks
And the easiest way to beat them is to play 2 Good teams 40 minutes each flat out.
When forwards play with their heads so close to the ground so they can build multiple little forts to attack from the game is slowed right down..
Bring back rucking and heads will come up and the game will speed up and the crowds will come back.
Coming from Ruck days I’m 61 now,you soon learnt where to put your body (a forwards badge of Honour was ‘rake marks’) and woe betide if your hand went though to Pinch the ball😂.

I love Aussie rules, but two Aussie rules sides in each of our two rugby states must have been detrimental to rugby. I regret that change; for rugby (union) is a great great game and being at the top of world rugby was something for all Australians to be proud of.
Yes we P.I players do go through the NZ rugby system that improve our performance but without denial it's also our genetics that is passed through our ancestors that make us P.I outstanding and dominant in a variety of sports, like rugby union, NFL, rugby League, ufc, boxing and WWE and many more.. 😉 Our ancestors are voyages and farmers..💪 Spot the difference...physicality is in our blood..

How does introducing fatigue through less reserves speed up the game? Surely the “Bomb Squad” has shown that when used correctly it speeds up the game!?
I suspect it leaves more holes from tired forwards for faster fitter players to exploit in the second half.
It reduces the power game that he was talking about. Players will be selected more on fitness and mobility rather than strength and power. @@thecuttingsark5094 the lighter *fetcher* *linker* loose forwards become more valuable in that game, there would be less mobile locks playing at loose forward.
@@thecuttingsark5094 It might become a bit like league in that even with some of behemoth forwards they have they still have quite a few sub 100kg forwards or around 100kg, while in union you might get only 1 on the team if that.
