Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 4 Op. 40 [1941 Version]

Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 4, Op. 40.
The work was composed in 1926 and was revised twice, first in 1928 and a second time in 1941. The first publication of this piece was the 1928 version. The original manuscript version was released in 2000 by the Rachmaninoff Estate to be published and recorded. This Concerto is the least known out of his Concerti. The structure was criticized for being amorphous and difficult to grasp on a single hearing. Only the second movement contains a prominent melody, while the external movements are mostly made out of smaller melodic passages.

Concert pianist Ben Laude (“Tonebase” channel) makes the case that this work is Rach’s most personal opus. And therefore, to him, it is over time, appreciated much more than the the great 2nd and 3rd concertos. It grows on one. Dismissing it as a failure is a mistake. Man, how hard it was to write my piano concerto Opus.30, a lot of decisions about certain subjects and at the same time an orchestra in the standards of Richard Wagner and other great orchestrators. I don't know man, but I think my concerto could be a big failure. What I saw after i wrote my concerto is that the orchestra is relatively smaller for concertos with solo instruments, my concerto requires a large orchestra, and at the same time I'm afraid to do a reduction because it will lose much of brightness in a certain part, like the part of the 8 horns or the wind machine, I don't know, but I don't think it will work. I'll post it on UA-cam, but I don't think it's going to be very good.
