She was as polite and nice to the little people (me) as she was to the people in her close entourage. Rest in peace Ms. Taylor.

Even elizabeth reconizned that. If there was ever a doubt from the critics about her acting habilities, they vanished after she won the Oscar for Who's afraid of Virginia wolf, one of the best performances ever, from an actress.
Those performances & films were indeed better. Liz herself thought the film was trash. But her disgust with the part must have somehow imbued the character because, damn...she still gave a GREAT performance! One that almost redeemed the picture. Almost.

Six years later, she won another Oscar for her searing performance as Martha in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" "Butterfield 8 was her fourth consecutive Oscar nomination and it was time.

Elizabeth Taylor said "this was a sympathy Oscar" when I heard about it in her interview. Yes, we all know that Shirley MacLaine's performance was superior and Elizabeth won because she nearly died, but Oscar is about drama and Elizabeth Taylor's win is one of the most dramatic, riveting, sensational wins ever. You could hear a pin drop when she finally gives that short, heartfelt speech. A truly great star.
There have been many unjust losses at the Oscars over the years besides this one but the most unjust loss was in 1954 when Judy Garland who thoroughly deserved it for "A Star Is Born" lost to the insipid Grace Kelly in "The Country Girl". That has to be Oscar's all time low!
justess martin yes, to this day that is considered the biggest travesty in Oscar history. It was so bad that even right after it happened other actors and actresses in Hollywood were publicly saying Judy was robbed, they didn’t give a fuck how it made Grace feel LOL.
I never considered Grace Kelly to be an actress on the talent level of her contemporaries : Judy , Liz Taylor , Audrey Hepburn . Country Girl shouldn't even have been nominated
Her, I mean Judy's performance, was good but Grace Kelly's was better. She gave the country girl a deep, very smart interpretation and her win was well deserved..
It waste your time to regret it had been 56years elizaberh won the oscar but i think she deserved it because she talented beauty charismatic and have a style legend all the time.
Deborah Kerr should have won for the Sundowners. Period! Even Elizabeth Taylor said her performance in this Butterfield 8 was the worst piece of garbage she had ever done.
I felt that Elizabeth fully deserved her Oscar for Butterfield 8. I thought her performance in it was brilliant. The Apartment would have to be one of the most boring movies ever made. Shirley sleep walked her performance throughout the film. Elizabeth looked absolutely stunning in her Dior dress.
She does not sound like Marilyn. It sounds like she is experiencing a respiratory problem. If you read a few of the other comments, you will see that she was recovering from a surgical procedure. There is a scar on her throat. That is why her voice sounds that way. Marilyn's voice was that way for a completely different reason.

I wish she'd shown up for the award she deserved a few years later, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf.
Elisabeth Taylor, pure class, beauty, elegance. Hell of a woman !!
THE GORGEOUSNESS!!!!!!
rest peacefully, girl. I was so sad to hear you had passed away today. We'll keep your legacy alive.
How was she almost dead.
She was in critical condition due to severe pneumonia and a tracheotomy was performed to save her life.
@@bambi274 also, she got sepsis from an IV in her leg & almost lost her leg
@@kumuluskld oh ok. Thanks
She was acting the whole time. She was that good.
She gave the country girl a deep, very smart interpretation and her win was well deserved..
agreed!
Bette Davis in All About Eve ( 1950 ) losing to Judy Holliday in Born Yesterday , was the biggest unjust loss ever !
The first sequences of the film without dialogs brilliant (geniales).Wonderful Elizabeth Taylor.
THE SHORTEST SPEECH EVER!!!! beautiful Elizabeth.. x)
It was lovely to see eddie (then her husband) helping elizabeth here.
Yul Brynner ist soohh sexy :-)
She looked like Vladimir Putin.
Liz looks magnificent! And she was so lovely and charming on stage accepting her award.
It waste your time to regret it had been 56years elizaberh won the oscar but i think she deserved it because she talented beauty charismatic and have a style legend all the time.
the last of the true hollywood stars and legend....you will be missed my beauty.....
Deborah Kerr should have won for the Sundowners. Period! Even Elizabeth Taylor said her performance in this Butterfield 8 was the worst piece of garbage she had ever done.
Yul... Deborah... Elizabeth. I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE THEM.
I agree...
Star will shines brighter than ever, RIP Liz Taylor! !!
Such a great role, such a precious movie... Liz was so proud of it.
liz hated that role and said it many times
+JSOMERSET994 JSOMERSET994 I think she was indeed speaking to the script, but the fact remains she was damn good in it.
Elizabeth hated the movie and didn't want to make it. It's one of my all time favorites. She was mesmerizing as always and gave a great performance.
+Deva7 lmao
+Deva7 Proud of it? She called it a piece of shit. Get your facts straight.
She represented the pure beauty with such charming look through her eyes such as a diamond, her green-blue eyes were her best diamonds god gifted
That soft breathy voice. Reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe. Question: which one came first?
You are handsome in that photo!!!
@@Michelle-pn9xt Her voice does sound similar here to Marilyn's when Marilyn was more breathy but as you said it was because of the surgery Elizabeth had undergone. Marilyn real voice wasn't actually breathy either.
I miss the old days
