    The old faithfuls, they definitely have lots of soul, plus lots of memories.

    Let me add something: I ruined a few boots by over conditioning before I learned this lesson. Too much and too often conditioning can be too much of a good thing. Over conditioning can soften the leathers. Never do more often than quarterly (I condition mine every solstice and equinox, the 21st is easy enough) and use a toothpaste sized dollop per boot.

    Hey man, those old boots are my favorite pair that you have. Do you still wear them or just keep them for old time's sake? I just got a pair of used Justin lizard boots at a thrift shop in pretty good condition for $`12.50. The very same day I cleaned them and conditioned them, adding extra conditioner in the area between the toe box and the vamp where a lot of stress and folding happens to prevent splitting there.

    I use conditioner for both regular n exotic skins. Even to just give my boots a clean look. I do use bic 4 and recommend that product. Thanks for the vid JC.

I don't know the conditioners because I use other thing but not products from the supermarket! I have my technique to restore life and shine to the boots! Good video !!"

    My Dad's friend took some leather shoes I believe to Pakistan and it ended up cracking. Because in Pakistan air quality is pretty dry mostly in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and other places in Pakistan except Islamabad the capital. My family's are from Lahore so in Lahore it gets really hot and humid there during summer like over 110 degrees mostly like its pretty bad there. I would definitely be careful if I wored my cowboy boots there always take leather conditioner and cleaner with you.

    Question i have some dark brown cody james boots leather what would be the best leather cleaner/ conditioner for them. Note i live in Arizona. I do use bickmore exotic for my caimans

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  2 роки тому

      Sticking with Bickmore would be a good idea if you like it. Bick 4 is a good all around conditioner. Bickmore also has a sadddle soap which makes a good cleaner or you could use Bick 1 for the cleaner.

    I just watched a video on the double h gel ice work boots earlier and I said I have a few pairs that have worn well and the current oak ones are not conditioned except for when I bought them, but they have still lasted almost 8 years but down by the outsole the left boot has two small holes one is more like a small slit in the boot but as I have said I am not easy on boots and they have gotten soft and I also think part of that is the chemicals and liquids they get exposed to so I have to get a good conditioner and a waterproofing or weather resistant coating for the next pair of oak double h gel ice work boots I buy..

    I know it's probably not worth the effort but I've seen some of these cobbler videos where they sand it down lightly then polish it with pigmented polish .. some people even add glue to the larger cracks and then sand and polish .. but these may be to much lol. I wear my ostrich boots almost exclusively and bick 4 works really well doesn't really discolour it and mine are a "honey" color

    Jeremiah, I recently got some Capybara boots and absolutely love them. Question, as for making them last, is there any thing I can apply to them or just use a brush occasionally. They are much like a suede or rough out.

    I love lizard skin boots. Problem is, I've owned two pair of Tony Lama Lizards - and literally within weeks they separate on the vamp. Once they start to bend a little (from squatting down) the skin begins to separate. How in the world do you keep them from doing that? I've had them treated and oiled. Still, they don't last.

    Hey JC I have a pair of Dan Post Tempe Full Quill Ostrich Boots that I put beeswax on them and they got 4x darker and I have never been able to get them back to their original peanut brittle color. They are like a very dark burnt brown now. I have tried saddle soap but I still cannot get them any lighter. Do have any recommendations to get them lighter?

    • @tannerlawless1851

      Snake dries out quicker than cowhide. Letting them dry out will cause the scales to curl faster, using conditioner will slow this process greatly.

    Hey, Jeremiah. I recently got a pair of vintage Justin 3862's off ebay, and they've been great. I conditioned them when I got them with Bick 4, although I'm not sure how often I should do so. I wear them everyday, all the time that I'm outside. I live in a pretty humid and wet climate (Northern VA), and I just haven't gotten around to getting a water/snow-proofing product for them. They get wet almost every day from the morning dew; should I let this affect how often I condition my boots? Haven't found any information on it yet, so someone's opinion would be great, thanks!

    • @lukyguy1240
      @lukyguy1240 2 роки тому +1

      I don't know what cowboys do. I work hard in my boots but I only clean em and oil em occasionally. It helps them last longer but oftentimes no one wants to clean muddy boots when they'll just get muddy again instantly. However, it's probably possible to wear boots out before the leather ever breaks down because you didn't oil em anyways. Some people take care of their trucks some people run them into the ground. Up to you.

    Leather is skin. What happens when your skin doesn't receive adequate moisture? Crack! And maybe some blood as well...
