That sounds so lovely, the micro really caught all the full and lush jangles! The neck profile I also liked, this was a really nice walk through Emily. I also was really really impressed by it when I played it for a short bit at the both. The thinner headstock is nice design. That was a nice room to record in and I’m still laughing about trying to open the heaviest door in the world of that room 😆
I don't get the hate for the headstock. It's got nothing on my Burns Double Six, which has a more clunkily awkward and outlandish looking one, though I love it still. The only thing that could make me want this guitar more would be one in purple sparkle. Though those would doubtless sell out on pre-orders alone.
Great video as always, Emily! Electric XIIs have always been some of my favorite fenders, so when they released the MiM alternate reality version a few years ago, I got one (and love it!). I think a 12-string w/ Jazzmaster pickups is a perfect combination… throw some black bobbin lollars and i bet it would be killer.
I’ve waited for 50 years for Fender to bring back the Electric XII. I wanted one in the mid ‘60s when they came out, but I couldn’t afford one at 15 years old. By the time I could afford it, I couldn’t find one, and I wound up with a Vox Phantom XII. In the ‘80s and ‘90s Fender put out a Strat 12-string, but I didn’t want one of those, and by then the prices of vintage ‘60s ones were through the roof. When they announced the Alternate Reality Electric XII, I ordered one. They sold out quickly, and the prices have been going up, so I’m glad I’ve got one! This Squier Jazzmaster XII is half the price that my Electric XII was, and if I didn’t already have the Electric XII, I’d have ordered a Jazzmaster XII. You need one if you haven’t already got one! You sound good on it! I hope they sell s**tloads of them.
I REALLY want one right now but I can't swing buying it outright until I sell some other guitars. I hope they sell a ton of them as well (and I hope they can pin a few of them back to this video haha).
Nice job ladies!!! Nice clean tones shine thru the micro amp .... And a perfect conclusion, best said than any other review I've seen of these: buy it YESTERDAY. Right on! Again lovely job.
It is a beautiful guitar. Edit: After watching you play it, I ordered one, July 2nd. Can’t wait to get her and play. I have a Telecaster that I love, along with some very old violins. Playing is still fun, after all the many years. Fun channel to watch, too.❤️
I've been casually looking for a 12-string electric for a while, and almost bought a Reverend Airwave 12, but for as little as I'd use one, the $1299 price is too much for me. I have 3 Reverends and love them. When I saw this and realized that it has a graphite reinforced neck and all 12 strings are adjustable for intonation, I grabbed one immediately. It's great--especially for the $449 price. I'm happy that I found one, as they're on backorder everywhere.
I’ve had mine for a few weeks and I love it. It’s a quality guitar so far, with a few minor quirks, like the jack not locking down on the cable as much as I would like. But for the price it’s great. Also like I have to say every time , it seems like squier has better fret work than fender these days
It sounds great but I hate where they put the toggle switch...I'm going to hit that all the time. I have a Yamaha Pacifica 12 string electric that I love ...they only made them for a year or so and I was lucky to get one. I have to play Ticket to Ride whenever I pick one up
Visually, I think this guitar looks very impressive indeed. The headstock is almost... pre-historic, like a dinosaur's head! It sounds rather good as well. It seems ready and willing to strike out towards something grandiose and truly epic in scale. I'm really tempted to get one, though, to be fair, it is a bit of a niche instrument. However, Roger Mcguinne of the Bryds did employ it well, especially on their live recordings, like the massive version of Eight Miles High.
Roger McGuinn of The BYRDS! And this guitar will not produce the tones that Roger got. He was using customised 12 string Rickenbacker guitars. No other 12 string electric produces the same tone. Many have tried. All have failed.
i caught 12 string fever a couple years ago (still do, prob play more 12 than 6 now!) and would have absolutely been all over this because it was in my price range if it were around then. i love that they dont sound like ricks or danos. i ended up out of my price range some and snagging a '65 (i think) Eko Cobra. it's only got one pickup but i've never heard anything like it and it's a unicorn in that it stays in tune and is comfy to play. i love my 12 and i hope yall do too :)
Pretty nice! The hockey stick headstock for the win. You are right about having the chorussed strings tuning adjacent and not boringly perfectly in tune, that's the flavour I think.
Excellent demo, especially to just to hear the guitar playing while other reviewers tend to play for 1 minute and just talk for the majority of their demos 🤣 cannae wait to try this guitar when it's released here in Scotland
Given the demand for this model, you'd hope Fender learned that they can make a Player's Series and Professional II series and have those do well, too.
Wanted to love this 12 string, but I think it does not do well with distortion at all is my conclusion after watching this and several other vids. Looks great, does the 60's and clean stuff great, but not the rock tones I need. Danelectro's 12 string seems to do distortion well..
Wow! I live under a rock and didn't know this was coming out, but it's exactlyyyyyyyy what I've wanted and now I must have ittttt Thanks for cluing me in
Oh, Squier is doing Paranormals now? Neat. 100% agreement on the slight detune between strings, they do it with piano strings as well! So anyone arguing would be arguing with all the best piano tuners in the world. It just makes it sound fatter and that’s objectively scientifically true about our ears.
It has a unique sound. Different from the sound that George Harrison used to get with RIckenbocker or what Jimmy Page used to get on the Fender. Very nice.
I saw a posting that Crossrock cases on Amazon fit the 12 string Jazzmaster. Also, when I purchased mine, the salesman at Sweetwater said an Ibanez case fits.
But you didn't actually play any song, you just strummed some chords. It seemed to me that you were show-casing the guitar preamp more than the 12 string guitar. I'm not trying to pick on you, everyone has their own way of interpreting what a song is and how it show be demonstrated. I'm a season guitar player with 50+ years of playing 12 string guitars. That particular guitar has the same bridge as the more expensive Reverend 12 string has, that's a noticeable feature on that guitar and a good reason to buy it. You can actually intonate all your strings individually for once! Good luck with your song playing!!!😎
as i suspected, i would put this in "paranormal Baritone" category for me - meaning it's cool as fuck and i want it, but probably wouldn't use it very often (as i have the paranormal baritone, and it rules but i don't use it often)... and i type this as i look over in the corner at said baritone, which is still awaiting a restring since i am a lazy and unmotivated chump.
Nice guitar, sensible price. My Halo Clarus 12-string is better -- but this thing is about a third of the Halo's price and there are plenty of aftermarket JM pickups that stand a decent chance of fixing that rather "ice picky" tone in the bridge-only position.
@GetOffset it's been done...not well, but it's been done a few times. I played one and the intonation was terrible. But you toss in a couple of fuzzes, a chorus and maybe a tone reverb/shimmer, intonation goes out the window.
You lost me when you said the only 12 strings you have ever heard are like Danelectros 2:12. There is a little American company called Rickenbacker that makes somes reasonable 12 string electric guitars. Check it out. Seriously though, this Squier is a lovely instrument. However, to me it sounds like an electrified 12 string acoustic guitar rather than a traditional 12 string electric guitar.
The headstock is a reason for me not to buy this guitar. I'd have to take a saw to it, which isn't a terrible idea, but just creates work. I've never felt this way about any other headstock. Hell, I like the legacy Epiphone headstock. But this Smurf hat bs just... it would irk me looking at it in my collection. That said, thanks for the demo. It sounds lovely, and if the price was just a touch lower, I'd consider it as a project guitar to refinish completely. May yet... we'll see. Also, hi to Jo behind the camera! Nice to hear you've both been enjoying the event.
I've been tempted to take a saw to the (IMO) ugly headstocks of my two G&Ls, which are otherwise excellent instruments -- same situation with this (field?) hockey stick monstrosity.
the framing, background set and lighting makes this feel like an alternate universe Andy demo
Oh really? I wish my backdrop looked as clean as this haha.
An alternative universe, and a plectrum ......
Omg if only we thought “and here’s my clean tone” hahaha
seems like a shoegazers dream guitar.

I got my local guitar shop order me on in Olympic White and I love it! Middle position rules.
I love the white! I'm into this sparkle on the blue. Wish they had a sparkly white
I have a 12 string Danelecteo....But I think I want one of these...Great Demo! Nice Playing!!! You have sold me on this....Thanks!!!👍
Fistpump @5:53 when the Brass In Pocket riff came out! :D
And then Blister In The Sun!!!

This is such a helpful video. I really get a good idea of this guitar's range of sounds and how they could fit in with how I play. Thanks!
Thanks for straight forward playing review so I can experience it honestly. Appreciated.

I’ve got my eyes on the Airwave 12, too. But at that price it would be a while! I need to get over my Squire prejudice though.
More 12-string videos, and yes go buy one, for they are awesome.
I want it so bad!
Enjoyed the demo! RAWK!!! 🤘🏼
Awesome! Thank you!
I already have an electric 12 string (and several Paranormal Series guitars), but I still want this. Sounds great!
Which 12 string do you have? A Dano?
@@GetOffset It was a kit build. Strat style with 3 single coils. I might put some lipstick pickups in it one day for that Danelectro vibe.

Oh that's weird regarding the jack. Probably an easy enough fix, right? I swapped the jack on the baritone last year.
@@GetOffset I just popped the pickguard off and gave a little more < to the contact. Easy enough
Coolest looking field hockey stick ever, it sounds nice too.

You're totally right-it doesn't sound like other 12 strings I've played!
I caved last christmas and got a Danelectro 12, when i saw the images of this new squier 12 come afloat i was so bummed
Ooof I know that feeling! Maybe a trade in your future?
Pretty nice! The hockey stick headstock for the win. You are right about having the chorussed strings tuning adjacent and not boringly perfectly in tune, that's the flavour I think.
Exactly!
You can tune and intonate it perfectly, but there will still be discrepancies because of finger pressure on the paired strings. Works for me!
I can get a original 1966 Fender X11 12 string for USD$900 - would this compare well to the classic Fender or not even close?
I'd 100% get the 1966 for $900.
@@GetOffset Thanks for the tip

I wish someone made a vibrato tailpiece and bridge for it, just to see what it sounds like.
You don’t want a vibrato on a 12-string. I had a Vox Phantom XII in the ‘60s and that POS wouldn’t get in tune, much less stay there.
@@jfinester My thoughts on the vibrato were "Are You Nuts"?
Whammy pedal that rascal. A wang bar on a 12 would be the drizzling shits to keep in tune.
I'm not sure that'd work so well 😬
eyed the eastwood sidejack 12 for that, it's insane but can't deny the appeal
Given the demand for this model, you'd hope Fender learned that they can make a Player's Series and Professional II series and have those do well, too.
Oh yes definitely
They sold out of those 2019 Electric XIIs pretty quickly. At half the price, these Squiers should sell like hotcakes.
12 strings sound like a freaking music box! Great voice!❤
