      Information on how to deal with a decreasing radius turn which you enter too quickly doesn't seem to be shared very often. DR turns are a major cause of single vehicle motorcycle accidents.

    • @thetessellater9163
      @thetessellater9163 4 роки тому

      @@Lurch-Bot1 - agreed, Matthew. when I first got on a bigger bike, during my training for the test (UK) I experienced this. It can be frightening to swing wider than you planned when going into the bend because of the decreasing radius curve. I survived, calmed down, talked to the instructor about it, but never really got to learn how best to deal with it, other than ease of the throttle. Is there another technique to deal with this, apart from forward planning! Step up to the plate, Dan.

    I don't usually comment or chime in... however. topic death wobble: most common reason a bike will do this is from rider gripping the bars to tightly! the motorcycle makes small corrections keeping it's self in a straight line & having a death grip on the bars can prohibit the correct path of this gyroscope (front wheel) that we are using to controll steering, causing the wobble. Dan u r a quality moto-vlogger .. thanks 4 doing what u do. & being Saftey/education ATGATT minded & passing it along to others who might benefit from info

    Hey dan dan. Been watching your videos since the first "how to" in the parking lot with your 883. I researched and watched other videos like yours for almost 2 years before I bought my 2014 883, just last week! Mine has higher z bars than your original but none the less... your videos helped! I have no endorsement (Florida) but I always wear gear and grew up on dirt bikes and 4 wheelers, tractors and pretty much everything else minus dump trucks and semis. I rode into town the first time today and it was smooth as silk. I think the msf is for people who have only driven vehicles their whole life. Or dont understand a manual transmission. I also have a 93 jeep wrangler 5 speed. I say all of that to say this... it mostly seems like commonsense shit. -Dont be in such a hurry
    -Assume cars dont see you
    -Keep it in first at a light
    -Pump brakes so cars behind you notice your brake lights better.
    But you cant tell me that an msf course shows you how to avoid a latter in the road...(personal experience in the last 2 weeks, plus people turning on your road but not turning afterall (1st day I left the house) just assume everyone is an idot, like they are in a tourist florida town like mine. I think there should be a test you can take before you need an msf.
    Thanks for all your videos and sorry for the rant and misspelled shit lol
    G'day all!!

    To swerve or not to swerve... That is the question!! 1st one must determine whether one needs to swerve or come to a dead stop... In traffic if a car is still moving swerving may not be the thing to do... Deer jumping out from nowhere is hard to access... Sometimes they run right straight into the rider... If you are using the 12 second rule and see a deer ahead of time, try engine breaking... Load throaty straight pipes and custom exhaust sounds typically send them back to where they came from or at least get them moving so you know where they're going... I did this once in Colorado... Worked like a charm... There was a lot of grey area discussion in class about that topic... Everybody had a different opinion on the wildlife matter... Cheers!!

    Butt up over obstacles. Cut my teeth on the desert riding dirt bikes. My butt spent more time off the seat than on it in a days riding out in and around the White Tank Mountains in West valley. This is a great prelude to street riding. Teaches you paths of escape, washes, deep sand, ravines and desert downfall vegetation. Have had 26 motorcycles since high school. I'm 78 and still want another one. Last one was sold in 2012. My best and favorite dirt bike was a 78 Yamaha TT500 thumper. Had it until the mid 90's. Riding off road keeps you focused. It better. Very unforgiving.

    Yesterday, 81 degrees after the huge afternoon rain, large puddles, and a sleepy van, something about the way he pulled out suggested he was not going into the turning lane, so I swerved to the outside lane, yep, like a doper he went right where I was.

  • @RTK171
    @RTK171 4 роки тому

    If you want progressive braking use the 1 finger tecnique and use a shorter brake lever as for the rear brake you adjust it so it doesn't lock up.. By introducing some air into the brake line. Then you'll have a automatic rear brake it will stop you but won't put you on your arse by locking up in a panic situation.

    One thing I've noticed that is incorrect is that most of the time the front tire Sipes are mounted backwards ∆ so that the Sipes actually pull water under the tire rather than moving it to the sides V and away from under the tire as much as possible.
    To prove my point bikes used for racing had the front tire Sipes mounted correctly so the point of the V touches the pavement first and the Sipes tend to move the water to the front and sides!

    The butt lifting technique deserves a better description.
    1. You should always place you butt on the seat in a position of balance meaning you will not fall forward or backward when stand up, no weight should be on the bars.
    2. It's not necessary to lift the butt that high in most cases.
    3. It is very important to hold the tank tightly with your legs while going over the bump

    Here in the UK we're not so much 'Born to Ride' as 'Born to Swerve'. Pot holes, myopic motorists, Kamikaze hedgehogs, bits of tree branches, wet leaves/ salt on corners, mud, fresh tarmac and loose asphalt are all part of the joy of riding here. Put a Brit biker on a road with none of the above and we'd probably start to swerve through force of habit.

    Riding into my crappy road from the main road I had to go fast enough to get over the big lump of concrete at the entrance to the road and to not trip over and be upset by the rocks in the road. This was the first time I have ridden a bike up the road because I had just bought my first bike here, two years after moving here. There was no line of sight up the road because the houses butt up to the edge of the main road. My crappy road is only wide enough for 1 car with no space to pass by on a motorcycle. But I should have stopped across the street on the main road (two narrow lanes) to be able to look up my road. As I pulled onto my road I was of course leaning in the turn a little. But a car was there right in front of me coming out. I suddenly stopped and since I was still leaning I fell over and broke my mirror and injured my leg. I could have avoided it had I anticipated that a vehicle might be coming out of the road. But in the two+ years that I've lived here, no vehicles had ever come down the road as I pulled in with a car. There are only 3 houses on the road. So, I didn't think of it as a road but as a 100m driveway. How stupid of me. I've been riding since 1975, but all my experience has been on decent roads in the U.S. This is the Philippines, where very few roads are decent and where most drivers are reckless. In hindsight, I could have straightened up first before stopping. Why oh why didn't I know that? Worse case scenario I would have gone straight up to the other side of the road. But, I could have stopped.

    While I don't like speed humps and humps in petrol stations, worse still are the raised crossings that they build right before intersections and roundabouts, sometimes in the braking zone. You are often turning as you are going over them, many have a block finish on top rather than tarmac and most have paint to indicate their presence, all of which make them particularly problematic in the wet.

    I can't fathom why you would be repeating so many times that you cannot learn this stuff without attending a paid course. that you can't practice this stuff on your own, or on a road somewhere, that the only way to learn this stuff is with an certified instructor. I've taken these courses and its literally the exact same information presented the same way, the only difference is there is somebody to watch you try it a few times on a closed course (empty parking lot) and will give you pointers, many will let you try it first on their training bikes; these are the only differences. Telling everybody that they shouldn't practice on their own unless they pay a bunch of money to attend a professional class is just shilling and doesn't help the majority of bikers. Any biker absolutely can and should be practicing this stuff on their own. There are a lot of safe places to practice that aren't manicured closed courses run by paid training programs; lots of courses don't have important features that DO exist in the real world, like gravel on the pavement, or slopes. just my $.02.

    Amazing content however in real life you won’t be executing these maneuvers under 70 or 80 km/h

    Great tips, However after the 4th tip I heard “go take a MSF course” so much already I got annoyed and stopped watching. Stop saying over and over how important it is to take an MSF course. Say it 1-2 times and we get it. Not 4-5 per tip, that’s obnoxious.
