Well Chris and Cynthia that wasn’t what you expected. Paul Weller has written some beautiful love songs interwoven with the hard political message Of the Jam’s mainstream hits
I remember having All mod cons in my sweaty paws running back from the shopping centre to play it up in my bedroom . Gotta say when I first skimmed through the album I kinda discounted this song at first hearing as I was more of a A bomb in Wardour Street and All around the world type of Jam fan . But over the years it has grown on me and it sits quite proudly in the middle of Wellers range between In the city and The bitterest pill imho. 👍🏴
Both this track & the similarly terrific Butterfly 🦋 Collector appear on some editions of All Mod Cons .. Generally both are on the CD..but one or neither are on LP pressings ! Both are on the Snap compilation. OK 👍
English Rose, I would presume is on all editions, as it was an official, if hidden (not listed) track. The Butterfly Collector was not an official track for All Mod Cons,or any other official (non-compliation) album.
Butterfly 🦋 Collector is on the US & Canadian pressings of All Mod Cons. Check Discogs. Like Train In Vain on London Calling , English Rose appears uncredited at the end of side one of All Mod Cons but on some modern pressings it is omitted by mistake. This is the modern world 😆 🤣
@@davidellis5141 I don’t want to be rude, but those are not the original releases as in the UK. Butterfly Collector hadn’t even been released as the b side to Strange Town when All Mod Cons was first issued here (UK) so couldn’t possibly be included.
And don't you good people apologise for not getting it or liking it whatever it is you guys are very open-minded and seem willing to take a different perspective of the one you have already received 👍✌️ you guys are 👍 awesome and my quadruple A opinion rating can't be overturned sorry if anyone disagrees with me SEE YOU IN COURT AAAA says I'll win
Really nice and mellow side of the Jam, further evidence of Weller maturing as a writer and performer on 'All mod cons'. Wouldn't be surprised if it influenced Noel Gallagher with 'Wonderwall'. As for you not getting the Jam initially, don't beat yourselves up, some people are more into the sound than the lyrics and the Jam are culturally very English which doesn't always easily transfer to other countries. Glad you enjoy them.
Not heard this in a while! The Jam's melancholy side! There's a version of the Jam song, That's Entertainment on the UA-cams , its Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher doing it acoustic style, Noel does e really beautiful backing vocal, might be suitable for the channel, it's definitely watchable, but its not superb quality
English Rose didn't grab me when I was 14, it did grow on me the older i got, the album it's from, All Mod Cons, is my all time favourite album. It is about Wellers ex, Gill Price I believe.
Since I'm swedish I of course have to ask for a reaction to something swedish... So, it would be nice with a reaction to TSOOL, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. And I would very much appreciate if it was the song "Second Life Replay" and the live version from P3 Guld (can be found on youtube as TSOOL - Second Life Replay (Live P3 Guld 2009)).
This song is a grower. That is why it is so good in my opinion. The more you listen to it, the more it gets better
Thanks for covering The Jam on your channel.I started following them in '77 and they have always been my favorite band.
It’s great seeing people enjoying records that I bought over 40 years ago.

Hahaha Chris we will have to entertain them because the Jam well THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT
Love the Jam but this is my favourite song of theirs. Beautiful
English Rose 🌹. When a Girl and a Country meant so much.
One tune from a Fab Album ! Would be great if you did the whole Album , to hear how much contrast is in the Music !
cant go wrong with the Jam ,

Also words on being homesick too

Hey guys, have you heard The Style Council, Paul Wellers band after The Jam, check out A solid bond in your heart 👍
Not mentioned on the song list or lyric list if I remember?
Cant wait for my long awaited Robert Palmer request
Written for his (then) girlfriend Gill Price when the band were playing and touring the US in 1978.
That's ENTERTAIN them.... that's either very clever , or very accidental....
Lovely song. Probably the only Jam song that didnt have Foxton or Buckler on (Smithers orchestrated aside)

Punk ethos but mod to their boots!

If any of my three boys had been a girl they would have been named after this song by STICKY FILTH
Good reaction. 🖖❤
Used to skip this song on my “all mod cons” album couldn’t stand it
Better live.
Not for me this one. I ways thought Paul Weller was better with this faster upbeat songs.
It's ok not to get it. I'm glad the mob didn't get you. I do happen to like the Jam though but this wasn't mi fave song.
