      Hey Tanner,
      This shelving looks soooooo much better.
      The uniformity is not only more functional for you, but I think it helps to frame all the aquariums to look like one big ecosystem, even though they are all separate systems. It kind of looks like you have cut cubes out of a certain water environment in different ways.
      Having all the filters directly on the floor is much easier to deal with, especially when you have water spilling when doing filter maintenance, which on its own is a huge improvement. Plus you don't have any worries about getting the wood on any of the shelves wet and possibly weakening the joints in the shelving structure. Best of all if you have water come out of the filters, its on the floor and is much easier to clean up.
      LOOKS GREAT MAN!

      I wish you would use all of your existing setups for more content. Like MD Fish Fanks does it. It would be nice to get to know the animals, the setups and just follow along on your journey. I think the way you only invite us in when you create something new is getting perhaps a little repetitive? I vote for you to do some more follow-ups, maybe some maintenance videos, some more low fidelity stuff. 👍

    Your views on pet care . I hope you understand that you are teaching old and new generations what the standard to strive for is. This shows the respect and love for the lives you have accepted into your care. So much respect, so many of us people have for you. You make people want to learn and be better caregivers to our plants and animals. Thank you from an old lady, for doing more than your share to improve all types of living things lives. And giving people options that improve their own lives by having something to take pride in doing well. And a reason to keep doing it on those bad days we all have. Reasons for living can be big or small. But each is a step foward. You impact lives with every video. 😊

    That was the quickest and most nonchalant reference to veneer I've ever seen in a builder / maker's video... and I love it. Most of the videos I watch are actually restoration videos and veneer is a complete nightmare as far as I've seen, but something new like this? The veneer 100% makes sense if you're using stained plywood in this application, I get it!

    I know you've probably answered this a million times and I just missed it, but some questions I've had watching these over the years:
    1. What is your daily/weekly upkeep on this many setups and how much have you been able to automate?
    2. If someone is going to start getting into more complex setups, what are the 3-5 mistakes or issues that are easy to avoid and easier to make?
    Love your stuff. Amazing setup. Keep it up!

    • @89Johneboy

      if you have been watching for years this should be easy for you to answer yourself. Cheers

    • @zc1682
      @zc1682 3 місяці тому +6

      @@89Johneboy I've never seen a video where he discusses how much of his new basement setup he has automated and how much time it takes to maintain all of it. And since he has just recently made this many setups, it would be impossible for him to have answered it in the past. Also, he's provided countless tips and tricks to help people getting deeper into the hobby. Far more than the handful I'm asking that would be at the top, especially in regards to the mistakes that are easy to avoid and easy to make. If I'm mistaken and it's that obvious based on the content, try answering instead of being condescending.
      Cheers.

    • @GLCore123

      many setups are "no maintenance" so he probably only services them a few times a year

    • @zc1682
      @zc1682 3 місяці тому

      @@GLCore123 but what are feedings like for the ones that need it? Are they automated in any way? Are there specific things that tell him something needs to be done vs something he wants done? Even if you only did water cycles on a tank every month, if you have 40 tanks that needs to be coordinated somehow. Just interested.

    • @SerpaDesign
      @SerpaDesign  3 місяці тому +8

      1. Daily upkeep consists of feeding and water, which takes about 10-15 minutes. I don't do much automation unless I'm traveling because it disconnects me the processes and potentially introduce issues that otherwise wouldn't occur. I do water changes and maintenance as need, which usually monthly and takes a few hours.
      2. Make setups in a way that mechanical components are easily accessible for maintenance. Include plants and other biological process that do the work for you, so you have to do less. Build a "collection" slowly so you never amass more than you can handle.

    When it comes to picking the correct boards, please stop going to the hardware store. even their best boards are on quite a bad quality. Better head to the next carpenter or joiner and buy it from him directly or from his sources! it's on a hole different scale quality wise to a lower or equal price! Also ask the all mighty google weather a sawmill is close to your location, the quality is also excellent but it will be even cheaper :)

    You absolutely killed it with that build. I know how you feel loosing space by not placing tanks all the way to the ground. But I decided years ago it just wasnt worth the extra row. The ones on the bottom would always end up getting neglected by accident, harder to maintain, temp fluctuations etc.etc.etc. So at the end of the day i also just felt like there was to many cons with tanks on the ground and not enough pros to justify it. But thanks for sharing, as always your content is inspirational.
