Thing is anderson has great bjj, so if you took him down to get away from his striking youd be going out of the oven and into the fryer. I look at it like this, you have basically wrestling, submissions, and striking. If you can both out wrestle and out submit a striker then you have the advantage, however if one is a wrestler and the other a submission artist it comes down to striking. With Joel and Israel, Joel in theory should win being the better overall grappler, however Israel's grappling defense is likely good enough to stay on his feet long enough to out strike Joel. If Joel really pressured him with boxing and primarily wrestling that would be his best shot. Joel has to be ready to counter that Granby roll Israel always does and keep pressuring him with takedowns and boxing, if he gets him down he has to keep him down. I think Joel has the tools but guys get caught up in pissing contests and determining who can bang it out the best. Tough one to call just depends on who executes their strategy the best.

Yeah it's slightly weird when you consider there's a very slim chance either will be finished. KO'd, hmm well, Costa cracked Romero really fucking hard, and he bounced off the ground up. It's a win win for us as fight fans, as Costa will learn a lot from this fight against his next opponent.
Yoel doesn't like to wrestle too much because it takes up too much energy. Yoel wrestled too much in the first Whittaker fight and gassed out too early. He adjusted in the second fight and did much better. Yoel is very good at pacing himself. If the Costa fight was 5 rounds he would've won handily.

@@stevenwest1494 I can conceivably see Romero being TKO'd from not being able to defend himself properly. I doubt he'll go out cold, but if he ends up against the fence and is too tired to really return fire or make a good escape, the ref might just call it. He's shown to slow down and gas out even in 3 rounders like against Costa where his shots got really sloppy by the third. Even if he adjusts his activity rate for a 5 rounder, Adesanya can stay active for 25 minutes and keep working the body to wear him out faster.
@@gnomeam not just against the fence. Part of the beauty of Israel's striking is the precision of his counters. He uses the opponents momentum to hit them even harder and most of the time it's right on the chin. Tho, Romero is a hard dude! I think Izzy has got this, but am very curious to see just how fast Yoel can be. Soon we'll see if he can be fast enough.

Guys don't you realise yoel doesn't do that. Yoel can't KEEP people down. He can take them down. He has done that to however he has wanted to. He took down costa, weidman, whittaker, tavares and so on but he never kept them down. Yoel Just doesn't have that control once he takes his man down like askren or khabib.

Someone brought up Israel's striking to Robert. When Robert replied "well I'm a pretty good striker myself", I knew he would lose right then and there. Robert thought he could stand with Israel and he paid for it. Robert is a better fighter than what he showed during that fight but it was a mistake for him to insist on standing with Israel. If Yoel doesn't plan to use wrestling then he's finished before he enters the cage.
