Slice Of Life Pokemon content feels like such a home run. Having Pokemon use their powers for co-existing with the humans and each other seems so much more funny than having battles, imo.
Also WOW mariya takeuchi is an absolute legend in city pop!! I did not expect to see her in this context but that is a welcome surprise
I hope theres more of this show!

eh I think it's fine, as ellen said it's more like an hour-long special and I think that's what it's intended to be! the length is probably also the reason why it can look as good as it is, because they can just channel their best work without having to make compromises in order to fulfill a bigger quota (goes without saying that stop-mo takes a long time to make lol). I absolutely want /more/ but doesn't necessarilky need to be longer, just more of this same thing as long as it means they can maintain this same quality!!

@@Shiki0414 As an audience it's also better to walk away with the feeling "I wish there were more", than "I wish they stopped at episode/season X". Although I could see there being a near inexhaustable amount of demand for gentle slice-of-life Poké-stuff.

I love pokemon spin offs so much more than the whole catch-battle system. Snap and Ranger felt like being in the world. I wish they would make a cozy management sim like this. Doesn't have to be massive or complicated. They had some stuff early on that let you play with your Pokemon but they were all very obviously aimed at tiny children. imagine a Pokemon resort game where you run it, care for them, gradually build it up Animal Crossing style...

There is something that reminds me of traditional British children's programming like the properly stop-motion Postman Pat. In the episode "Postman Pat and the Hole in the Road", about 8:30 in, there's a scene Pat and Alf - the farmer - are talking about a road closure. P.C. Selby starts wandering over to them, and Alf says to Pat "Look out, here comes trouble." In the context of a show for children, it is an innocuous and very human moment. Pokemon Concierge feels like that. Feels like the very human and real heart of the story. The games are fun, sure, but I imagine that vanishingly few of us grow up wanting to battle Pokemon. No, we want to be their friends, and to live life with them.
Aardman is a good shout. Creature Comforts is a bit too sarcastic - it is after all using an animal lens to highlight human absurdity. But there is something in Pokemon Concierge which resonates with my Wallace and Gromit loving heart. It has the same whimsy and idealism of that first jaunt to the moon. Is is serious? No. But it matters to those involved. The story has heart through-and-through.
I would love to see an Aardman/Dwarf Studios collaboration. I mean, Gromit is practically a Pokemon in function in so many ways already...

This video makes me so happy Outside Xbox and Outside Xtra have never resorted to fake outrage, or clickbait videos for views. In the era of rage equals engagement, it makes me proud they're one of the few big creators who reject negativity and talk about things they're positively passionate about like Pokemon Concierge. As fans, we may take it granted, but if you look outside Outside's content (pun intended)... 6:42 I don't play the Pokemon games myself, but I still have kept up with the general story of what's happening in the games. From that point of view, I wondered if Kieran was autistic. He starts out shy and he has things that he seems fixated on. First he's obsessed with Ogerpon, and then he became obsessed with becoming stronger than the player. He has strong emotions when it comes to what he cares about. I saw a lot of myself in him. I have ADHD which is on the spectrum of autism, but I know that I am not an expert. Still, finding characters in media that you can see yourself in is important, and it brings me joy to think that Kieran is like me. It seems that this Pikachu could give me that same joy.

    5:55: Same.
I always interpreted Pokemon battles as something that just sort of evolved out of natural Pokemon behavior -- that it wasn't the product of some sadistic jackasses saying "Hey. What if we made them fight?" and that all the leagues began just from a bunch of trainers realizing they couldn't stop their Pokemon from picking fights so they at least tried to be organized about it and it snowballed from there.
But while I can accept that my pelipper is going to be giving a lot of evil eyes at other passing Pokemon, there are so many other reasons I would want to have a pelipper in my life than to take it into the arena. And I know I'm definitely not the only one who would only want an eevee for the purpose of snuggling up in my lap while I watch the news.

I wasn't big on doing active, outside-y things with friends; or even really making friends and that's kinda still true now. Many things about me are *very* different now but that hasn't and it couldn't and I thrive when I'm around people who don't expect of me anything other than that part of myself.

I only played the first three gens of Pokémon, but when animal crossing style games exploded in popularity I thought a Pokémon game where you start at a farm or your house is the breeders would be a neat idea.
You can go out into the world and capture more, you can take on gyms if you like or the league to become champion, but whenever you want you can go back to the farm and raise crops and Pokémon and take a break. In earlier titles I saw it being more like a lavish chao garden in sonic adventure 2, but where games are now could just be part of the open world.
There are so many untapped genres for a Pokémon game, like so many have said for years a solid made mmo would be amazing.

I'm not sure if it's possible, and maybe it's what you're getting at, but I kind of want to play Palworld as kind of a management game. I know GTA Online can turn itself into a manahement game if you start getting into businesses and keeping them well stocked and profittable, I think you could do the same thing in Palworld if you forgo or sidestep the violence that a lot of people seem to be focusing on right now.

Edit: i'm on the final episode. I am not ready for it to be over yet. As someone with ADHD and Autism yeah, this Pikachu is giving off the same vibes i gave off as a kid. I could be hyperactive but for the most part i liked being by my self and keeping myself to myself. I've gotten much better over the years but i can relate hard to this Pikachu.

Slice of Life Pokemon just works because without the battles these Pokemon can actually act like animals which they are but that somehow always gets kinda downplayed. Instead they can be treated like smart animals here and interact with eachother instead of just bashin eachothers heads in. And the Anime itself has shown that there is aa LOT more to the World of Pokemon than just battlingit just rarely gets focus. I think that is also why pokemon Snap worked for so many people. The interaction between the pokemon and the environment was just something we never get to see to such a degree and it was cool.
And i love that stop motion has this little renessance in recent years. It's just cool to see again.

The first two seasons of Digimon are the best battling monster show of the 90s. Pokemon has always been the better game though

I've recently been watching some episodes of SOTW from the beginning, and I'm enjoying the segments at the end where Luke and Ellen would read comments and respond to them, or even feature fan art posted on social media. I feel like it really highlighted the sense of oxvoxtra "community" by actually embedding it into the show. Any chance of bringing that back?

Pokemon has so much untapped potential, and I think Concierge is a glimpse into what the games and anime can be if they moved away a bit from trainers and battles. Imagine pokemon media about a researcher/breeder, with the MC learning their habitats and behaviors. Or a ghost story series.

Pokemon Snap had a vaguely cursory glance in that direction but a lot of it is "How do I provoke this pokémon into giving me a better shot?", with a fair bit of emphasis on the "provoke" part for fairly obvious gameplay reasons.

4:20 "Pokémon are like human toddlers, in that they need everything explained to them and they're quite emotional..."
*And* they'll happily fight each other if you put them in a pit!

My take on it (and I'm not being snarky when I say this) is that Pokemon are just as prone to being competitive as people, even over stupid things.
The way we look at two Pikachus fighting each other is the way those Pikachus look at us when the folks from Guinness have to come out and measure somebody's giant pancake.
