So far we have traveled a lot seeing so many beautiful things. Not today. Today we want to stop and reflect on how ferocious and inhumane human beings can be, let's go to visit Auschwitz.
Auschwitz is divided into three blocks: the first is where the prisoners who were able to work lived, the second is the one where they arrived directly by train (Birkenau) and the third was completely destroyed.
Meanwhile, a tip for those who decide to go and visit this place: you need to get a ticket before getting there, because in Birkenau they do not have them. The ticket entitles you to visit what they call a museum, which is the first block (Auschwitz) where they collected the objects of the prisoners. Included is the guide who will also accompany you in the second block by bus. An identity document is essential. It passes under the metal detector and searches.
I will try to summarize what we experienced in there as much as possible but the eyes that saw and the ears that listened to the guide made you experience terrible emotions.
I will not be here to repeat what everyone knows by now and that they have already seen on TV, in books and documentaries, but what the human being has managed to do to his fellow men, not even those we call animals can do it.
Initially, the prisoners arrived on the train at the Auschwitz station. When the arrivals increased dramatically and their transportation became difficult, they decided to build a railway line that went directly into the Birchenau camp. 80 humans with luggage and everything they thought they needed arrived in a windowless cattle car. The journey (depending on the origin) could last from 3 to 9 days without water or food and in their excrement. Survivors arriving at their destination were seen by a doctor who chose at will whether that being was to live or die. 80% went directly to the gas chambers and the remaining 20% ​​as long as they could survive. They could last from 1 day to a month or two but not long. They worked 12 hours a day with an onion broth and a loaf of bread (about 1000 calories). They could go to the bathroom 2 times a day in a common bathroom, next to each other and in front of the others without paper or water to take away any human dignity if there was still any left. The dorms had 3-story beds. Around 8 people slept on each floor. The more fortunate ones slept on top because the ones below, in addition to having less air, were at the mercy of events; the beds above them or the various excrements could collapse given the conditions they had to undergo.
There is still a lot to say but looking at the video that I tried to shoot as best I could given the condition in which that place puts you (you even seem to hear the children screaming, the mothers, everyone !!) you understand something more. One last thing that impressed me and that they didn't want to photograph was the mountains of hair. THIRTY TONS of hair that were used to make fabrics (women, men, children ...)
Moreover, when they told the prisoners to undress to take a shower, they did it in a sneaky way. They told them to be careful where they left their belongings to find them later. They gave them soap and a towel .....
SHAME is what I felt because I am part of the same human race that did all of this. One could hope that at least mistakes teach something but if we look at the world today we realize that if something has already happened ... it can repeat itself.
