I'm so glad to see that RT straight-up tells chat to stop telling him what to do. Especially since chat clearly doesn't know shit about the game, as evident by them saying to Vault immediately after he equipped the Insect Glaive
I do vaults to dodge underneath attacks and increase mount damage. And you can do optimal damage with an insect glaive, just on the weak points tho. I mained insect glaives vault damage towards enemies who fly, since most have attacks that go below them.
@@thatonenoname196 Jumping attacks, especially without clutch claw descending thrust, really aren't optimal dps. Your ground combos do way more damage. Depends from enemy to enemy but if you're caring about DPS (which, when you're just starting, you definitely shouldn't [and might never]) you don't tend to vault too much.
@@SAHanson I'm meaning that I do more vaults with boosts of damage for being in the air with flying dependent monsters since most of them use attacks below while they are above. I mostly do ground attacks to get that dps after I finished a mount. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Honestly this stream is what inspired me to get into Monster Hunter. Was never interested in it cause of the graphics mostly until RT did this stream and now I'm a big fan. Revisiting this stream after a few months of playing is so great. I love that he spent so long making George, it was so adorable honestly. as a gunlance main it is a power house of switching between Offense and defense when its most to your benefit. blocking attacks and being a wall for the monster to beat on intill that perfect moment to unload massive bullets into its face is a great feeling
It is really strong, but sadly you can’t sever body parts with it. The severed body parts can yield rare extra materials by carving. It also has really short range.

Hammer isn't biggest damage. Greatsword does largest single hits with its true charged slash combo and hammer has a big downside in that you need to be near the head to do KO damage (which is what hammer wants to do) whilst only being able to roll to avoid damage unlike greatsword, charge blade, lance, gunlance, sword & shield, longsword or heavy bowgun which all have some sort of shield or parry mechanic. Other weapons also tend not to need to be positioned at the head or can just fly out of the way of danger (insect glaive) or are super fast (dual blades) Most speedrunners I see tend to go for something like charge blade or bowguns (I think sticky light bowgun is the meta?).
Hammer has some pretty big weaknesses in that it has fairly short range so you have to be right in the monsters face all the time. And optimally you should be targeting the head of the monster constantly.
Time for a weapon war for a game that is literally years old and has multiple sequels by the time of the writing of this comment that said great sword is best

Not 4 hours just to start playing with no way to skip. Should be an option to skip the story.

Controller really isn't the best way to play monster hunter. Of course, if you are used to it, a controller is better, but if you predominately use K&M, it is better.

Hard agree, although vaulting is the way I have most fun with IG. It's not optimal DPS but it does make you feel cool.

As a Switch Axe main I'm glad Rt joined our ranks but please it hurt to see him take so long to figure out the axe becomes a sword
Switchaxe is absurd. Like greatsword or longsword, but faster.
Switchaxe is super fun, but longsword combos can do a ton of damage really quickly if you know what you're doing with the spirit gauge
I've always been a duel sword man myself but I do see the value in the switch axe
