I think the most unique of this game was how they smoothly give the player the controls from a cutscene. I could rarely notice when the cut scene happens and when i need to take over. Thats the best part ❤️
Played the original TR on the first PlayStation Christmas 1996. To this day it is the most extraordinary game to hit any market at any time. Every jump had to be pixel perfect, save crystals had to be employed with wisdom - even if it meant having to spend a whole day dying over and over because you didn't know how next to impossible the next room would be compared to the one you were currently struggling in. The puzzles were often fiendish and there was no internet to help you. Woven throughout this immersive experience was the best music ever to hit a video game - cinematic, emotional, memorable and fitting to whatever environment you entered for the first time. This game was the foundation and cornerstone for all that would follow; including the magnificent Unchartered series.
It does have great music but you can’t pick one game can you? 😂 Skyrim, Assassin’s Creed 2, Fallout 4 in my opinion have great music as well and there are definitely others that are great as well.

I discovered this channel last week while starting to feel the fatigue of viewing the same content over and over, and I must say, these videos are highly entertaining to watch while also being informative. Keep up the good work!
I love these games! My favorites are : Tomb Raider : Underworld (even though I'm terrified of spiders and sharks), Tomb Raider Anniversary, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider 3. I was disappointed with the first game of the reboot because it was too different from the original games, and there were no decent tombs! But Shadow of the Tomb Raider has amazing tombs and the environmement is really cool.
Shadow's tombs are some of the best, and the Aztec backgrounds are fantastic. I think they could've improved the story telling though, it was never a strong point of the trilogy
I find it difficult to rate the older games as I was too young to do anything in them other than Croft Manor. I do think the Legend trilogy was the best in my opinion, each instalment (even Anniversary, liked how they tied it in with Underworld) added something. Legend also had a lot of pressure put on it after Angel of Darkness.
@@charliefen When I was young, I played to Tomb Raider 1, 2 and 3, but never finished any of them. I played to 2 and 3 again in the last years (bought them on Steam), and really enjoyed them! Tomb Raider 3 is a great games, with various environmements.
I actually liked Chronicles, it was my first TR game and I fell in love with it. .. Now I've played all of them and still love how the series evolved and "tried" to adapt to new generation consoles until the realease of TR 2013 where they nailed it again until now where we are waiting to see what's next with the announcement of Unreal 5 and a TR game in development
Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary and Underworld are the ones I play the most on Playstation 2, there's Tomb Raider on Playstation 3 that was released in 2013, I play a lot too. The movie based on the game, I liked it a lot, I don't even know why people criticize it so much. The rest of the games I only heard about, and I never played the others. The video was very good, I liked it, it has my support.😁👍🏻
As a huge fan of TR, you really did a great job here! One note: when you talk about TR3, the actual gameplay shown in the video is from TR2... But overall, great vid :)
Some of the scenes were from India in TR3, but you're right, they also show Tibet and the Temple of Xian in TR2! And I'm not sure which levels it is when they show soldiers.
I liked all three of the newer trilogy, but I think I liked Shadow the most. The first one, and especially Rise, were too combat focused. Shadow had a nice blend of exploration, puzzles and combat and the graphics were at their best. Also more mobility options for Lara's cliff climbing.
@@alexwebber04 Some of those missions within the Hidden City were a bit tedious. Just stick to the main mission and the tombs and I think the game is more enjoyable.
@@caleb_16 The biggest question is how they will unify three different Lara, three different level and gameplay design? We don't need story because they don't know how to write one. I would love to see the Tomb Raider 2 remake as the next TR game.
A new game is being made in Unreal Engine 5 but from the sounds of more recent articles Crystal Dynamics is just trying to rush through the development of this game so that they can focus all of their efforts into the Perfect Dark game which is being worked in collaboration with Microsoft. Also the script leak that happened in August really has a bunch of people worried as if this game fails then it could be years before Lara Croft resurfaces hopefully with a new developer working on the series.
Not gonna lie, the 2013 rebooted series barely feels like Tomb Raider anymore. They feel more like amalgamations of popular video game trends, with watered down aspects that defined Tomb Raider previously. Also i think the sales numbers for TR Legend and Underworld are wrong, former has sold around 6 million copies, and latter over 3 million.
Does not matter... the Legend Trilogy just sold very weak, period. Hence, the Survival Reboot trilogy, which outsold the entire original 6 games by a mile (35.2 million vs. 28.9 million).
@@danijspakuls1004 It's hard to maintain the "niche appealing quality" when you don't have the sales to back it up. I actually enjoyed the Legend Tomb Raider trilogy, with Lara Croft looking at her absolute best in those games. But it always amazes me how they sold so poorly, which is the reason why we ended up getting the more streamlined Uncharted-style Survival Tomb raider trilogy, which unfortunately also has Lara looking less appealing and the story & presentation infested with lots of modern "woke" feminist flavor.
Awesome video! It really puts things into perspective with the ratings and how many copies sold. I had no idea the osiris one did so well. And wow Tomb Raider 2013 really sold those copies!
I never understood people saying something that is so fun stale and then when the makers change it, those same people complain about where did the game we loved go. If it isnt broke dont fix it. Shadow is an awesome game with a great story line. I sure hope they make another and leave the controls just the way they are.
This applies to assassins creed franchise so well, people back then were complaining about the gameplay getting stale and now when they changed everything they are crying to bring back the old mechanics who they thought were stale, it's very hard to satisfy people.
As a 14 yr old kid back in 2001 when my father bought me a PS1, Tomb Raider Chronicles was my very 1st Tomb Raider experience and I freaking loved it. As much as I loved TR franchise, I still haven't continued playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider to complete the reboot trilogy. Still hoping for a new TR game at some point.
Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld were the last games in the franchise that really stole my heart. The newest trilogy are too much the same as all the other single player story driven adventure games for me, with less of what made Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider over the years. I want the games that are more puzzle solving focused with the combat being there but not taking most of the gameplay time. Yes you can adjust the difficulty to reduce the number of enemies at the start of the game, but that doesn't change the tombs and puzzles to be bigger, more intricate and interesting.
Am I the only one that really hates it when critics criticize games for not being different from the previous games? I mean, I personally never gave a rat's ass about that, as a consumer. If I enjoyed the previous, then I just want more of it, not necessarily something different. I loved Thief 2 a thousand times more than Thief 1, despite the engine being virtually the same. In contrast I hate Dungeon Keeper 2, precisely because it threw out the window a lot of what made the first game appealing. I used to love expansion packs because they offered more of the same with some improvements, which equated to more of I was craving for. I am all for new titles to *improve* on the flaws of the previous ones, but I really hate this tendency critics have of pressuring developers to make games different just for the sake of being different. To me what matters is that the game is satisfying, not that its technologically impressive. Usually when sequels sell better than the prequel it's not because it's different, but because it provides a better playing experience. Imagine if movie critics criticized movies for not being filmed with certain top notch equipment or not using certain cinematic techniques...
The issue is Eidos they decided to try to release games every year which was Tomb Raider's downfall and then they decided to sell the franchise to a game developer company Crystal Dynamics, that didn't truly know what they wanted to do with Tomb Raider so their Tomb Raider games seemed to always come in mixed reviews by fans and critics and haven't yet mounted the same success of the first 3 original games!

I personally loved anniversary probably because it remember hours of gameplay on the PC with the first tomb raider and anniversary just enhanced the experience. I stopped playing after completing anniversary.
Its honestly more sad seeing the new tomb raider games they have so much less puzzles and that was the good part about the older games for me not running around having to clear an area for 30 minutes before i get to backtrack to get everything i didnt pick up and do an easy mini tomb that really is bad compared to the older games, I get it had to evolve over time and i wish people didnt listen to game critics all that much because they have their own opinions and you'rs is gonna be diffrent from them so its not gonna make you wanna try it if they give it a lower score than you had hoped for, Anyway love the series just wish she didnt do as much shooting nowadays.
Yes!! I was so disappointed at the reduction of tomb exploring and puzzles. When I want to play an Indiana Jones-like shooter, I play Uncharted. When I play Tomb Raider, I want to explore tombs.
Nah too much puzzles gets tedious, I think Shadow of the tomb raider had a good balance between everything. For example I didn’t like Anniversary because it was basically puzzle after puzzle, it should have some variety like Legend and Underworld had exploring and bike levels etc mixed with the tombs. Anniversary ONLY had the tombs with some complex puzzles, nothing else… Idk it’s just my opinion and I never played the PS1 games but I heard Anniversary was a remake of the 2nd Tomb Raider and that’s the one game I didn’t like so I guess I wouldn’t be a fan of the PS1 games
