  • I recently bought the 24v mod for my EMG pickups and wanted to do a demo. I feel the 24v mod made a big difference. I hear it more through my live rig than in this demo. But I think the differences can still be heard.

Won't lie the EMG 81 @ 24 Volts sound incredible. I've wanted a guitar with EMG 81 AND 85 pickups since I was a teenager. I finally got the guitar I always dreamed now at 42. I'm really happy with it so for now I don't wanna fix anything that isn't broken. That being said excellent demo.

I did the 18v mod a couple weeks ago and I must say, I never liked the 85 but I was stuck with it, but with the 18v it's like a whole different pickup, now it's full, thick and open as I always imagined. And the 81 which already was badass, now is even more agressive, less gainy and more defined!

I remember calling EMG years ago because I was running a Seymour Duncan heavy metal Live wire that ran 18v, so I called EMG and asked if I could do that with the 81-85 set. The tech said yeah, you'll notice a difference from 9v to 18v, but wasn't worth doing the 24v. I've run my EMGs in my Epiphone Zakk wylde model since 2004 with the 18v. I love the extra headroom it provides, more so if your running more effects.

@@DanGatesMetal yeah, that's what he was saying, it was more that it just didn't justify it was all. I noticed a big difference in headroom, that was it because it seems to work better with my tube amps. People think it increases output more , but that's not it. If you want more output go to the Seymour Duncan heavy metal Live wire, I've been using one in my 89 Kramer Nightswan

      @@jotunbjorn 85 in the bridge w/ 24Volt mod , it's dark asf.
If you're a Floyd Rose bridge guy, combined that with a Stone Tone sustain block 🤯 damn wicked 🤘
I've learned over the years you don't need 30 guitars, you just need hardware , couple Floyd's, a variety of sustain blocks in various sizes , because more mass equals more sustain.
It's easier to swap Floyd's out than constantly swap blocks ( but the more you do it the better you get at it 😅) so having 3 or 4 Floyd's with different sustain blocks and string insert blocks & saddles already intonated makes it way faster and easier at string change time 🤘
